  1. There is one more? Neat. I thought this was the last battle.

I thought this one was weighed towards the Allies. I mishandled my armor (partly w/ the "help" of confused pathing algorithms) and paid the price for that, but still managed to pull out the win by virtue of infantry mass.

I was quite surprised to see that you had so many men left. If I would have know the odds against me I would have surrendered turns earlier as I really had no chance against that. Apologies.

  2. Wreck gets the victory as Allies.

Hats off to him for a nicely won battle and kudos for Bimmer for running the tourney.

Definitely a tough task for the Germans defending. I made a mistake of trying to rush some troops up to the hedgerows into an ambush position. Needless to say his setup zone was right there and he had men deployed behind those same HR's. Some of my waypoint selection was questionable too. I am not sure but believe I lost quite a few men on my own mine fields.

Odin / Wreck--GL in the finals.

  3. What sort of improvements come from adding the three modules to SF? Is it the breadth of different units? Are the scenarios any good? (Still trying to decide if I can face fighting with the web site to actually get it ordered.)

Go to the main pages. It tells you everything that is included in the modules. I would recommend getting it. Its like having cereal without the milk?

  4. I tried that mod and did not think it really helped much. Playing with trees on it was still too obstructive to viewing my units. I was looking for something that kept the full size and weight of the tree but just made it about 50% more see-through. Wish I had some modding skills because I would attempt this.

  5. Um, I haven´t tried that but I am almost sure that can be achieved using alpha layers and masks with reduced opacity. How they would look I wouldn't dare to say, though.

Fuser- just curious as to whether or not you tried this?

  6. Your missing my point.

First I support BF and everything they do with the series. I will continue to buy each and every game, update, module, pack, patch, and whatever else they want to throw into the mix. I will pay full price and also buy as soon as it comes out. I am doing my part to support the cause.

I understand the extra content, modules, upgrades are not popping up on someones computer over at BF all by themselves. I understand that buying these things will cost progressively more money as I buy more and more. I dont buy used cars by the way.

Anyway, my point was that if I am a loyal customer and supporter and willing to pump dollars into the franchise (sometimes twice as much as other customers buying the product later in its life) it would be nice to receive a small kickback for my investment and loyalty to the cause. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I am getting the kickback of playing new content and a such but so is Joe who has not invested as much as I have. I am not talking free games here but something small to offset the WTF feelings from paying twice as much as Joe for the same thing.

  7. Yuck, no one wants triggers for that. And if any one says different I spit on them putooie. :D

You are of course correct, if they design triggers to do bad things then playing the game could be ruined. But, come on, this is Steve we are talking about, he would never create a feature that would be bad like that.

We just want the AI to have the ability to react to a human attack by allowing them to muse a mobile reserve effectively. Or reposition a static defense when one of its flanks collapse.

Obviously the original poster has no idea how triggers work in TOW. Triggers are very hard to code unless they implemented an easy system with the mission editor. TOW has this but takes some time to get used to and is not that user friendly to use. Some of those that have mastered it have actually created some of their own unique triggers that can be implemented in the game. Such as limbering an ATG then transporting to a specific area and unlimbering to setup. Do a quick search on the TOW forum here and you can get an idea on what triggers would actually do for CM. There are not that many 'good' scenario designers out there but the ones that are creating stuff really take the time to understand how the editor functions. I dont think that these people would have a hard time with triggers. It is us simple people like me that dont have the patience nor time to design scenarios that it would frustrate.

  8. To put it in numbers, a Base Game (depending on purchase option) might start out at $55. A year later it will still be $55, but with more features than it had a year ago. Two years later it will have even more features and yet retain the $55 price tag. For sure some customers will want to skip Upgrades and wait a couple of cycles to get more bang for the buck. The downside is that you aren't getting those features to use over time and therefore your return on investment (so to speak) is lower. Newer Modules will not be available either, if those are of interest. Plus, you're not going to save that much money, if any, since you'll have to repurchase and that will cost probably the equivalent of 2 Upgrades.

Going off your statements. A repurchase ($55) will cost probably the equivalent of 2 Upgrades ($55/2=$22.50). So, If I purchase CMFI right off the bat at $55 and then the 2 Upgrades that are put out over the next year that is an investment of $100.00. Joe Shmoe comes along a year after CMFI is released and picks it up for $55.00, retaining the same original price, in which the two upgrades will be included. So for being a loyal customer and pumping money into your business as soon as new products are released I am actually getting the shaft. Where as Joe decides he is not going to support the cause and is able to pick up the same content at a much cheaper price tag.

Maybe throwing some kickbacks in there to reward customers for helping the cause right out of the gate would help. No matter to me as I have every CM game/module released and will continue to buy them.

  9. Tartari,

I have been sitting here with my finger on the 'submit' button ready to buy TOW3. I am not moving until you have this done. My wife and kids are getting very angry at me because I am getting nothing done around the house. Just kidding. Hopefully you still have this in the works. You have done alot for this game. Thanks.

  10. Love the looks of the foliage and trees while I am playing but hate the fact that in a dense map I loose sight of my units. I need to flip the trees on and off as I play. Usually I just outright turn them off with just the trunks showing.

    My question...

Is it possible to make the foliage on the trees more transparent? That way one could leave the leaves on and still see his units. If so, has it been done. I searched the forums and did not see anything.

  11. Though this is somewhat under the heading of singing our own praises, we have been getting quite good comments on our "Byte Battles", have a look at our website, (www.kretsen.nu/bytebattles) perhaps you'll find something you'll like. They are almost all intended to be small, short and intensive.

Also a number (well, the number is actually three... ;-)) of CW scenarios are in the pipeline and should be available after Easter.

BTW folks, we are also looking for Beta testers for our Byte Battles, if you're interested go to the site and contact us at the email address there.

What ever happened to the CMSF byte battles? Cannot seem to get to the old page via your new link.
