  1. It was at 7:30 PM EST (GMT -5). Don't know if anyone's remembered this game other than you and me. I've been busy in the Steel Beasts community after everyone just disappeared in November.

And I can make it. :)

\o/ Though, admittedly, my first thought was "Ut oh, a human! He's gonna kick my behind". You didn't quite manage :-P

Tell me more about steel beasts?

  2. ;1097778']

Ions controlled by bots work fine, especially in large groups i.e all 4 ion thors. The weakness of the bots is their maneuvering, not their aim. When positioning is essential I sometimes drive to the intended position and lock the brakes. bots canĀ“t unlock breaks :)

Just tell the bot to stop, and they'll actually do somewhat better (they keep their frontal armor pointed towards threats)

Anyway... to test your statement, I went out on the server today and played with 4 ion thors each time. It turns out that 4 ion thors under ai control are *easily* outperformed by 1 ion thor under human control, if only because the bots do not coordinate their fire.

*Two* ion thors under human control are much more effective than you'd suspect. Just keep aiming at the impact point/puff of smoke caused by the other human, and you can destroy even a thor relatively quickly. Since you're ablating armor twice as quickly, this also means that the target has less time to turn the target patch away from you. (so all the factors add up somewhat non-linearly)

    Future trials:

I wonder what happens if you have 3 or more human controlled ion vehicles. I wonder if tempests become effective in that case.

  3. Update: Kim's on right now, for anyone who wants to know. I had 2 great co-op battles with him. :)

    Update 2: He's done now.

    LOL :-P

Anyway... maybe we could exchange IM addresses via private message or so to set up more meets. More meets is more players, more players is more games, more games is more meets. :-)

  4. When we get new players, the first thing we will do, after meeting them and showing them some moves on the forums, is direct them to Drill Sergeant Kim! .

 YOU MAGGOTS LEARN THE BASICS. LEFT RIGHT RIGHT LEFT. YOU WILL ADDRESS ME AS SIR! IT'S ALL ABOUT TEAMWORK. THE FIRST DUDE TO BREAK FORMATION GETS 20 PUSHUPS.

DROP DOWN ON THE FLOOR AND GIMME 20! <Heh, that's another definition for "drop team" :-P >

In other news, I played with Dumbrocket today. (S)he's better than I am ^^;; If other folks want to be able to best Dumbrocket, I think you should also play sometime on weekdays. O:-)

  5. I'm usually online around 20:00-0:00 CEST (18:00-22:00 UTC, 12:00-17:00 EST), and can sometimes be up 'till 02:00 CEST (0:00 UTC, 19:00 EST) or later.

Are there other people around who might be up/online/able to play at those times. We could get in more practice, and be able to beat up on the wednesday and sunday regulars :D:cool:

  6. I'm pretty sure Kim is referring to me.

Once again, I'm pretty sure, after having Kim lose it on me for messing with his hermes, that I promised to never touch his hermes during a game again...at least while on the same team.

Oh, you can pull just about anything on me and I don't mind one bit. I mean, maybe you were sacrificing those ewv's and thors in some kind of grand-master chess plan. That'd have been cool! ;-)

I'm usually pretty laid back about things, as long as you explain what you're doing in some sane way.

I wasn't pissed off so much by what you were doing as I was by your crazy explanations. :-P

Finally, I'm pretty sure that I was fairly drunk during the game in question, so I guess I can't be sure about that much after all.

OHHHH! THAT explains EVERYTHING. This story just gets funnier and funnier. ;-D

    Dude. Here's the deal:

You can mess with any vehicles anyday, even on the same team. Just explain what you're doing in some logical, coherent way, and we're the best of friends (even if the logic turns out to be flawed after, at least we learn something).

And at least warn when you're drunk :-P

  7. Kim Bruning[kim2]

Rather good, but a bit stubborn and neurotic.

I wonder how I earned the "neurotic" ... was it the one time this dude kept snarfing the EWV off of thor+ewv pairs? In the middle of the opposing formation? Several times?

    opfor: "OHAI!"

    us: *KABLOOIE*

    (repeat)

There's lots of funny stories I can tell you about that round, if you're into schadenfreude ;-)

  8. Re: Recon In Force-Don't let kim2 take command.

I'm a bit less experienced commanding humans, for some reason :-P

(Need more games for that). Typically I get the start set up correctly, but usually you need to make some sort of evolution halfway, and that's where I'm having trouble getting things together. (In recon in force, at some point you stop shooting from the hills, and either advance forward, or strike the base from behind.) Towards the end of the round, we were fighting on the base where we were supposed to be, but we didn't have many forces to fight with there. That was my mistake.

@JBY: I should have stopped bots landing with thor KC-H at all eh? KC* is less useful when you're shooting at a base with one of those close-in-defence towers.

I think it's stonewalls(?) tactic to strike from behind with fast vehicles. If you've got some heavies shooting at the front-side, I figure that'd probably end up being the best combination.

I'm not sure about having ion tanks be controlled by the computer, I've never actually seen an ai-controllled ion tank get a kill? Though that might just be me.
