  1. Tux, Ouch, loss of the platoon tank leader. Figures. Had to laugh about John K's comment regarding the heat from the fire. Talk about finding a silver lining in a dark cloud.... Good flanking move to the right. Keep that gun suppressed, and work a flank shot out on the suspected SU. This one is heating up. Still, if only you'd grabbed some flame thrower tanks [thinks wistfully about Tux's last engagement]. We are all enjoying this one. Anticipation is growing. Heinrich505
  2. David I, I just put them into a quick battle and they really look sharp. Thanks a bunch. Excellent work. Heinrich505
  3. David I, They look really good. I just went to CMMODS to download them, but there seems to be some sort of problem right about now. I was able to download the Tiger II, but couldn't get the others to download. The screen kept timing out and I got some message about site connectivity. I'll try later. The pictures were pretty sharp. Really nice work to you all. Thanks, Heinrich505
  4. Tux, Sound travels much further in the cold. Perhaps you will have more time to correct than you realize. Well, hopeful thinking. Looks like you are starting the fireworks a whole lot faster this time around, although I think you were hoping for a few more minutes. We await the outcome with trepidation. Heinrich505
  5. David I, I would be interested, and I would guess others would be too. Very nice look. Heinrich505
  6. Tux, Alright, let the mayhem begin. This ought to be good. Heinrich505
  7. Tux, Oh yeah, let the magic begin. I was wondering how long it would be before we had another showing of an AAR from you. I'm looking forward to it. Heinrich505
  8. John K, That battle action you included for the Liri Valley was horrific. I am always amazed at the men in those actions. After seeing their squad destroyed by the obvious minefield they were traversing, the men continued on singly or in small groups. Terrifying battle action. It is a wonder anyone survived such action. Heinrich505
  9. Sivodsi, Nice choice. I, too, like that dramatic sketch. I have actually pulled that maneuver off against the AI, but all the Russians in the trench were suppressed or pinned, and from the halftrack, I unloaded a flamethrower team. There was a lot of fast surrendering before the flames could be employed. Heinrich505
  10. Hear Hear, John K, very eloquently stated. I concur wholeheartedly. Heinrich505
  11. Phillipe, Was it, by chance, "PANZER TACTICS German Small-Unit Armor Tactics in World War II," by Wolfgang Schneider? I believe someone mentioned that some time back, and I snatched up a copy from Amazon.com. I've yet to read it, as I've got so many on the list ahead of it, but I've looked at it quickly, and it looks like what you are asking about. There are a lot of really great photos too. Heinrich505
  12. Tux, It was cool while it lasted. I really wanted to see you "fire up" [literally] those flammpanzers. It would have been.....glorious. Thanks for keeping us posted. Heinrich505
  13. Der Alte Fritz, Oh my Gosh, what a list. It is amazing. I knew there were a lot of scenarios & operations out there, but it is mind-boggling to see them compiled that way. Thanks for the resource. I recognized many of them, as I've been playing for more years than I can remember. Remember to let us know what your final list you are personally compiling reads like. I'd be interested. It is quite a project. Heinrich505
  14. George MC, I posted an AAR for this operation at The Proving Grounds. You can tell I had a lot of fun with it. Hope you enjoy my write-up. It was quite a ride. Heinrich505
  15. George MC, I just finished crashing through your pretty cool Prelude at Pokhleben Operation. It was quite a ride. I was going to leave some AAR comments on The Proving Grounds II, but couldn't find it there, only on the Original Proving Grounds. Did you put it there and I just can't find it? For those of you who haven't played this, I recommend it. It came out rather historical, and was a challenge trying to save enough armor to push towards Stalingrad. Dr. Bäke was a renoun panzer leader, highly revered by his tankers. I lost a lot of armor trying to take Pokhleben, and had I upped the CEB, it would really have been ugly. The map is large but historical, and allows for maneuver. There are a lot of units though, which slowed things down at first, but then the blue bar of death sped up, once most of my armor and the AI Russian armor were blazing away. Quite a ride - highly recommend it. Heinrich505
  16. John K, Really interesting site. I have always liked Liska's artwork. Some very dramatic portrayals. The rest of the site was pretty slick too, especially the photos of eastern front action in 1942. Many of the photos were new to me. That was an especially neat surprise. Thanks for posting the link, or rather thanks to both you and Der Alte Fritz. Heinrich505
  17. Tux, I've had a few encounters like that, where the most unlikely course of action actually turns the day. Really neat to see it happen. I've read of many actual encounters where a few men or a vehicle crew decided in the heat of battle to do the unthinkable, rushing headlong through the enemy to reverse the tide. It is really neat that this can be recreated with this game. It could have ended just as easily with a panzerfaust brewing up your vehicles.....but it didn't. Thanks for the battle review. Good post. Heinrich505
  18. JohnK I second that. The wait is aaaaagonizing. Heinrich505
  19. John K. A fascinating read. Enjoyed it greatly. Thanks for posting. Heinrich505
  20. Tux, Yesssss, TREFFER, the Animal Hunter is vernichtet. Man, you had us all hanging on that. Nice hunting to the StuG. John K, my nails aren't much better. And yes, now on to the flammpanzers. Heinrich505
  21. Rankorian, This is one of those scenarios you come back to now and again. It is a good one for trying various tactics. I enjoyed it a lot. Glad you had fun with it. Heinrich505
  22. Tux, So far, so good. Too bad about that lone survivor...he'd done better falling in glorious battle for Mother Russia than dealing with the NKVD. If he's lucky, he'll be assigned to minefield clearing, with his boots. I sense the SU is getting antsy. Nice move with the troops in the trees. That's what I'd have done, for both recon and a shot at blasting a tank. If anything does happen along those lines, he may blunder them into lines of sight trying to get away from the infantry. Perhaps a little schnaps will give them the artificial courage to toss their grenade bundles. Damn, where is the quartermaster when you need him? If/when you rush the village, smoking is a really good idea, whether by actual smoke rounds or by blasting buildings to create a giant cloud of debris and smoke. You might not get volunteers to ride the flame tanks in the rush though. I'd be hesitant to take a seat on a gas can rushing into battle. One round and WHOOSH. That's why no one stays close to the flamethrower teams. Besides, those guys have to be a bit loopy to carry the flame tanks on their backs. And they all smoke cigarettes - what is with that, anyway? Probably from Bavaria... Really cool battle. Enjoying it immensly. Heinrich505
  23. Tux, Thanks for the directions. I'm going to have to try that. I appreciate it. Heinrich505
  24. Tux, Good read. I followed your actions with interest. These are always fun to read, and your pictures bring the fight to us in vivid fashion. I wonder how things might have gone if your flame tanks hadn't been hull down. It could have made a difference on that flank, and then caused your opponent to proceed more cautiously. Just a thought.
