  1. You can take the vanilla textures and double their resolution, but the effect you'll get will be to halve their quality.

     

    Other way would be to take the original textures, replicate them in a larger texture and you get sort of hd, but in truth they will be just more repeated.

     

    In order to get an HD texture you'll need a texture that is originally double the size of the vanilla one (or shrink one to obtain such size).

  2. Probably that T-72 didn't percieve the 30mm grenades from the side as a real threat, and therefore decided to stick with the ordered arc.

     

    Let's take an example:

     

    you are pretty sure an enemy tank will sooner or later pop out of that corner in the building area over there, so you order your T-72 a cover arc (armor) in front of it, to cover the space ahead; this way you are sure nothing will distract your unit from that incoming juicy and unaware target.

    Now, the enemy has a 30mm grenade launcher that recently deployed in a house on the other side of the building area and starts hammering your T-72.

    Outcomes:

     

    -T-72 breaks cover arc order, turns around 45° on its right, turns the turret, aims and shoot, repeats a couple of shots against the grenade launcher destroying it. Meanwhile the enemy tank you expected pops out of the corner, turns the turret, and before your T-72 can react it's killed.

     

    -T-72 keeps the cover arc, loses its tracks and gets a few other degraded outside modules. Meanwhile the enemy tank you expected pops out and is killed immediately.

     

    As you can see there are many possibilities and outcomes, the fact is the cover arc is a specific player order, and thus it must have a strong force on the unit behaviour, otherwise it would be useless, if not even negative.

    There might be hundreds of different situations, where you would have liked a different behaviour... in my opinion this one is pretty much consistent with the manual description of how cover arcs work.

    Moreover, there's a Whole bounch of new Fascist formations, most of them with German equipment and training, made from the Social Republic of Salo, such as the Republic National Guard.

    Some of those units had a good level of "motivation" and training, in terms of combat mission games.

     

    There were a lot of fights involving partisan units in northern Italy, in 1944/45. These kind of small unit fights, with old and low-quality vehicles, mixed formations etc. could be very well modeled with this game capabilities.

  4. Nice one BTR. The kruganets is really tall, I wonder how much space there must be inside. Also the boomerang thing there seems very tall.

     

    When I first saw a BMP-1 in person I was amazed by how short it was (I am average heigh myself), so much for traditions.

  5. Did your tank actually spot the enemy on its side?

     

    I am asking because right now the game allows the unit that is ordered a cover arc to fire outside it/ignore it.

     

    For example: if you order a tank a small cover arc and you start shooting it with another tank, you can be sure that after few seconds the tank with the cover arc will shoot back.

     

    From the manual_

    Any enemy units outside of this target arc will be ignored (until self-preservation takes over and the Tactical AI decides to override player orders; e.g. if an enemy unit suddenly pops up at extremely short range).

    In your case either the incoming fire was judged not a big risk by your tank, or the enemy was very distant, or both cases were not enough for your tank to ignore your ordered cover arc.

     

    All in all my suggestion is never to abuse the cover arcs and have faith in your troops, and rely to the arcs only when you really want to achieve a precise result in a precise situation.

    That's the best part of this kind of gaming.

     

    Never tried it, but you can pretty well assume coms problems etc.

     

    You can also set a high electronic warfare condition, or, impose as a house rule that the two players can not communicate at all (you'll need 3 other players who want to follow the rules).

  7. But how many explosion can you have in the same second ? It said somewhere that PzH2000 can place 5 incoming rounds in a 1,2 sec window. Is that sth that can be reproduced in the game atm?

     

     

    I am no programmer of this game, but I would say it's possible by all means.

    By the way, this sounds really like a perfect additional feature for a module containing that kind of new asset.

     

    The largest battery in game now has 6 gun tubes.

    -Still missing some Russian vehicles, mainly the MTLB + variants. Which should come next. Then a few other odds and ends and reworks of UA vehicles. Still need to mod all game's bridges (under way). Then rework the independent buildings (some, at least). Maybe make a dirty/used variant for the personal/heavy infantry weapons.

     

    -Master downloads: I tried with some options, but the master downloads would be very large files, and my upload speed is very slow, that would mean hours and hours of upload time and my connection is not that good, I often get error messages due to connection drops/hangouts/lag spikes, so at least for now I cannot provide master (collection) downloads.

  9.  Hehe, I wish.

     

    The only reference can be CMSF, and those three are all the vehicles available. I thought about making different color cars, but the problem is that the textures linked to that particular car will Always have the same name, while hull and doors/hood are separated in two files. This means that we could add variations to those textures, naming them 2, 3, etc. but you'll Always get mixes, such as a car with blue hull and red doors. It would Always be a mix, not really great looking. If only all the textures were in a single .bmp file we could have different color cars.

  10. It was discussed some time ago, if the CM2x games could be wrapped into a single big collection, where the result would be much similar to your proposal.

     

    IIRC marketing reasons were adducted as a negative view of this idea, as well as the problem of a huge single download.

     

    Personally, I would favor this a lot, especially if older titles are managed into the same level (patch) of the newest. This big boundle would be perfect for someone coming to the game for the first time, maybe overwhelming, but the ability to enter a game where the entire ETO, as you described, is available to play with would be very interesting.
