  1. Hello alan123, thanks a lot for the reply. I was thinking of the same culprit, to be honest. Hopefully both data and access will be restored quite soon. SG
  2. Just a quick question : when going to the home page of BF I cannot find the "repository" anymore whereas I used to get it under "Community". Could someone help me find what I am missing here ? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hi MCB, I had exactly the same problem as you, with a sole disabled resisting tank preventing me to finish the mission. Finally, after having pumped a lot of ammo into it to no avail with my tanks and troops quite close to it, I somehow moved them away, maybe to comb the rest of the map (cannot remember). With my pixel soldiers moving away from him the remaining French tanker apparently decided it was safe enough for him to leave the tank.. that thus became unmanned... triggering the victory. Came as a surprise but I was happy enough with it. So it could maybe be useful to place your soldiers in such a position that the remaining crew may panic but still has a free line of escape to leave the tank, i.e. not surround it completely.
  4. Hail to you, Gnasher, for the campaign and the ongoing effort. And full support as to remembering what the British did and that encompasses the full shebang, from September '39 to September '45. There are some around here - that means France - who do not forget ; maybe too few, sadly.
  5. Same here : no joy with IE8. Had a try with Mozilla and got through.
  6. Same for me. Tried yesterday and got the same error.
  7. Ahhh... Just mailed BF directly because I had the same query. Pity I did not look at the posts on the board beforehand.
  8. Regarding this issue, common to a lot of games, would turning off the User Account Control function in Vista be a permanent solution ? I know de-activating UAC is not advised but as the single user of a computer protected by the whole batch of anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-younameit softwares, constantly upgraded, I am ready to take the risk...
  9. Leider ist die Lage so, dass eine deutsche Version heute nicht programmiert ist. Antwort auch für andere Sprache gültig, wie französisch zB.
  10. Yes indeed. 1.3.2 alone does not bring you anywhere, it is just an upgrade.
  11. As a matter of fact, as Arzok shows in his missions, a lot can be achieved through a thorough conception by mission builders. Playing his missions in his campaign and discussing with him led me to view AI and its limitation with new eyes. For instance, the usual habit of AI units to fight to the last man while real units would tend to withdraw once cut off to re-establish their lines unless ordered otherwise (and even so...) has always been the main snag to me. I now understand that the mission builder can provide for that, defining zones that, when controlled by the enemy will trigger a fall-back. Of course all of this is wayyyyy more tedious to do than a mere positioning of troops.

    Demo

Quick question on the improvements : is the infantry now able to jump above small walls and fences and to crawl under fences ? Besides, I did not download the demo nor will get the english language one... but will sure buy the game as soon as it gets available. So, thanks for all.
  13. OK, many thanks for the confirmation. I'll live with that.
  14. Hi everyone, Talking about this smoke mod... I just installed it through Jonesoft Mod Enabler. When I load a previously saved game I get the infamous "runtime error # 3" that, I understand, is linked to graphic changes like drivers update, etc. When I load a saved game with no fighting, like for example the intermediary stage in a campaign (rewarding or choice of units), everything runs perfect. Perfect as well is the launch of a new battle. The above leads me to think that the runtime error is generated by the game trying to restore visual elements (effects for example), stored as parts of the "save game", different to the ones currently set up with the smoke mod enabled. Does this conclusion makes sense ? Thanks in advance or your views.
  15. Here is the link : http://ftp.alliance-francophone.net/filemanagement/maps/3945/campagne%20uchronie%20De%20Gaulle%20-%20partie.zip Enjoy : it is tough and good !
  16. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Thanks Sneaksie, the explanation / confirmation I was seeking.
  17. Arzok, I experienced what Slon complains about in a mission somewhere in the middle of the German campaign. Most of my infantry was lying away from the enemy. I had paid attention not to stay on the spawning zone where they were at the start of the mission because this usually get shelled. But they were still hit by mortars. The strange thing is that I played the mission again, sending them in some other direction, but still remaining out of sight. To no avail, the same mortar salvos were fired, obviously triggered by one of my tanks crossing some invisible line towards the enemy, and smack in the middle of my infanteers. To the extent I started thinking about some kind of observer being concealed somewhere but any combing I could do did not evidence anything. So, as far as I am concerned the question remains : is there the possibility to script in the mission building that arty will be fired at the actual position of the target, even if no AI unit has a line of sight to it ? As to your latest request, Slon, I think you need to identify the trigger for the reinforcement and then either modify or delete it - if it is time- or casualty-related for instance - or outplay it - if it is area-related, i.e. once you get to a define area you get the reinforcement.
  18. And then, after all, the King used to be the ultimate colonel, didn't he ? We used to have a lieutenant-général waging war while the king was residing in Versailles as well. 1789 and the reorganisation under Napoleon kind of led to the original meaning of these ranks being lost in France... Personally, I came to a better understanding of them by reading about the organisation and tradition of the British army.
  19. That, indeed, keeps baffling me. I second the question. In some scenarios I have been pretty mesmerised to see my soldiers, lying prone and concealed, getting struck by arty. Could someone confirm whether in some mission there is a script giving the AI shelling some kind of "omnivision" ?
  20. You are right, in France we call "section" the unit with some 30 to 40 men. The "section" is divided into several "groupes" of about 10 men. Then each "groupe" is divided into "équipes" of 4 men. The next subdivision is the "binôme", each individual soldier being teamed with another, the rule being one is never left alone. Up the scale, 3 to 5 "sections" make up a "compagnie". In the figures above I did not take into consideration command levels. As an example, a "groupe" is 2 "équipes" of 4 men + 1 sniper + 1 "chef de groupe" in command of the whole. These definitions correspond to modern French infantry. However this kind of organisation derives from lessons learned during WW1 and applies to the WW2 French army, globally speaking, with differences explained by the weapons used (e.g. only light MG in WW2 while nowadays you would have MG paired with AT rocket-launcher). To make things more complicated, in addition of originally French words having been absorbed in English but with slightly different meanings, some parts of the French armies stick to different names : for instance a British or US "platoon" corresponds to a French "section", but the French Gendarmerie would call the same unit a "peloton" - and you can see the link with "platoon". I even think our Gendarmes get it from being horse troops, originally, because our armour/cavalry boys also use "pelotons". Same stuff for ranks, by the way. I would stick to "caporal" and "sergent" while a tanker would say "brigadier" and "maréchal des logis". And for you English-speaker who would wonder how a "brigadier" can be associated to a mere "caporal", well as mentioned above, all these names come from the organisation of the French army of the XVIII century but have seen their actual meaning evolve differently depending of the country taking them over, including Germany... however you get things back in order if you consider the rank order of generals : brigade, major, leutenant (or Leutnant), colonel (or Oberst).
  21. Or the exact opposite if it is in the reserve : you cannot get it in the scenario you are about to play.
  22. I agree too... However I am pretty sure no sooner gets surrender implemented - if ever - some will complain it needs toning down because it is a shaaaaaaaaaaaaame their super-hero soldiers do not fight more bitterly.
  23. OK, thanks. The reason why I did ask is that playing the soviet commando mission that came along with one of the patches, I got the impression that my first arty support strike, called blindly in the direction of the area where the flak is, was way more scattered that my second one, called once I had positioned my troop in a way they could clearly see where the enemy was. Indeed, while the first strike achieved nothing, the second one was dead on spot and eliminated all the flak.
  24. In some scenarios artillery support is available (mortars or guns). Is there a difference in accuracy between a blind preventive strike - like shelling a hamlet at the beginning of a mission - and a directed strike with enemy units being spotted (seen) by at least one of my units ? In other terms does the actual spotting of enemy units result in a less scattered strike ?
