  1. Something need to be done to the AI in this case !

    A example:

3 enemy BMP's standing near a farm, i call in a helicopter to attack them. The first BMP gets destroyed...the others stand still. The second BMP gets destroyed...the third still dont move.

If one of my vehicles gets under fire they pop smoke and drive back. But why are the third BMP's standing still ? Is he waiting for the next charge ?

It is probably because it can't 'see' the threat, the off map Apache shooting at it.

EDIT: Ofcourse I think it would be better if vehicles in that situation tried to hide elsewhere, using the terrain to obstruct potential views from high places :)

  2. [...]

Agree with GSX... while the user shouldn't have control over the ordinance used, he should be aware of what is being carried.

    Steve

I think Steve was quite clear in his remarks. They want to let the user know WHAT the air assets are carrying. I think the only reason for the current situation is 'priorities'. :)

  3. Heh although Im sure it can be won, I did hold the right plateau fully under my control for the full length of the mission. Any Syrian shoving his head over the ridge got it shot off ;)

I did hide for the BRDM's untill they got close, since 5.56 vs BRDM with 14.5 has no effect.

On the left side my reinforcements in the canyon were rushed (when I wasn't looking) by a brdm full of syrians but they ran into a wall of two AAV's with fully dismounted troops. All of them died on a small spot vs one casualty on my side :)

[...] My question is, how far from the map edge are those objectives? I intentionally did hold ground where I chose to hold, except from the quick Syrian rush perhaps. I was going to move my dismounts to guard the entry of the canyon, but instead they just held it from within.

The poor men didn't have any chance to pass through my lines! :D

  4. I guess this is the 2nd mission in the campaign (at least if you won the first scenario), where you start on a hill with your spotter, which is about to get under heavy enemy artillery?

I had the same issue. I ambushed the Syrians and totally wiped them of the eart, apart from a few beggers that surrendered and they got a tacticaly victory for a 'breakthrough' although I did hold both roads until the end. :S

  5. Got it and it works like a charm. I don't know why the tracers were not red in the first place. It would be really great to see the Syrian tracers be white and sometimes green. Russian and Chinese tracers are often these two colors.

I think it has been mentioned long time ago that tracers are universal, iow they can't be differentiated for BLUE and RED.

Would be very nice indeed to see red tracers vs green tracers, especially during a night battle.

@21sec: use print screen and paint for single screenshots. Install fraps if you like to take more then 1 without alt-tabbing and ctrl-v'ing in Paint. There is no built in screen shot functionality in this game.

  6. I like the hunt command especially for scouts and snipers since it will generally halt them BEFORE they are spotted by the enemy they spotted.

It can indeed be annoying if you found out you team has stopped close to their original position, because of your own artillery falling down far away.

However I guess there has to be a trade of somewhere.

EDIT to clarify: @billyr, hunt doesn't halt your troops under incoming fire. Hunt halts your troops as soon as ANY enemy is spotted, or if they are fired upon by unspotted enemies. I guess the artillery falls in the latter category.

  7. hunting is used for moving until contact, which imo means that they will move until they encounter any enemy. Hopefully BEFORE the enemy puts fires at them.

Although you have a point that units in other movement modes then hunt tend not to stop moving, after coming under similar artillery threat.

  8. ...giddy as a pre-teen schoolgirl as January approaches, saving up the pocket money miserly doled out by my wife for a game...

I'm seriously shocked by so much astounding honesty...

Please allow this poor men to stay in his long since deserved break from reality and tell him his date :D

  9. lol how in earth did you find that out? ;)

I still haven't got through 'on war' although I understand it's basic concepts; for someone to find out the mere correlation between Prussians and Bavarians 'whoring' together, you must have invested quite some time in war history. I think I can guess what you do for a living ;)

    Anyway; nice find!

Ahhh, now where's my Bavaria? :)
