  1. Not quite true. We lost one of our brightest and finest artillery officers in combat in Afghanistan - Captain Nichola Goddard. She was killed during a 2-day engagement in Panjwaye District when her LAV III was hit by 2 RPGs while she was standing in the turret. Capt.Goddard and an ANA soldier died in the battle. The talibs lost 40 killed and 20 captured. Canadian Armed Forces integrates female soldiers in combat roles for real, because the women of Canada insist on it. We also lost two other female combat troops in Kandahar - Trooper Karine Blais and Master Cpl. Kristal Giesebrecht. Fencible
  2. So we've been waiting patiently for someone to address this problem. Since Apple doesn't appear to be doing anything, how about Battlefront getting out a patch? I think we've all been waiting long enough. Fencible
  3. I can't agree with this statement of yours at all, Jammersix. Apple changed a graphics support library, did inadequate testing, by definition, and released/distributed a software update that has had unforeseen consequences on their customers. That change broke applications that were designed to run on the MAC operating system. There was no warning to app suppliers of any requirement changes, nor did Apple give them any lead-time to provide software compatibility work-arounds. In our case, it was 'only' a set of games which have been negatively affected, but that is immaterial. Apple HAS broken OS functionality that apps were dependent on, and there are economic consequences for the app developers - who must now spend unexpected development resources to cover Apples error, and their customers. I have just re-purchased CMSF for my new Mac and am out $55.00 until it somehow becomes functional again. I HOPE that someone will provide a 'fix', and, as a software developer and tester myself I strongly believe that that 'someone' should be Apple.
  4. That sounds very encouraging. Did you need to take any special steps to get it running? When I attempt to run the software nothing happens. I was forwarded the Runservice.exe executable from support, which I was told is required by the CMSF executable to set up the license, but it won't run in 8.1 either.
  5. I upgraded my PC from MS XP to MS 8.1 and find that I'm not able to re-install CMSF. I've followed the suggested course of actions in the help registry for Vista and MS 7 OS installations, but no luck. Has anyone here been successful? I have the full set of modules for CMSF and am sorry to lose the whole batch due to an OS upgrade. Fencible
  6. I have TOW 1, but quickly tired of it as the game play required one side or the other to be completely wiped out before a scenario could end. No one would surrender or retreat. This lack of realistic behaviour ruined the game for me. Has TOW2 improved on this 'gamey' sort of behaviour to make it a better simulator? Thanks, Fencible
  7. Thanks, Lethaface - that is an interesting thread which explains the situation as it currently stands. Fencible
  8. Firstly, I am delighted with the new module and the 1.10 upgrades. Congratulations on the many excellent upgrades to this superb simulation. I am VERY impressed with the new terrain conformation improvements by the soldier AI. Men line up along walls for protection and seek depressions in terrain - what a fine improvement in realism! I have enjoyed playing Quick Battles in the past, but it seems that some odd force selections are being generated by this feature when the Marines are chosen. I think that the cross-attachment of resources, as discussed in the Marines module documentation, is too flexible and complex to be well represented by the current Quick Battles generator. For example, I often receive only an anti-tank platoon consisting chiefly of heavy wire-guided non-mobile crews when I have an assault task. This assignment is completely inappropriate to the circumstances and grossly unbalanced to the job at hand. Perhaps some prepackaged Marine force mixes with apropriately cross-attached assets need to be concocted to represent the various Quick Battles sizes and task types. Or maybe real men don't bother playing Quick Battles . Fencible
  9. Thank for teh quick response, George Mc. I assume the deletion is done on the map? I wasn't able to delete on the actual force selection screen - but I will go read the threads you mentioned.
  10. This may seem a foolish question, but I have not yet been successful in my attempts to select sub-battalion size forces for small test scenarios. How is this done? I seem only able to select full battalions, where I might want only a company sized force. Thanks for any suggestions.
  11. Twice in the airport scenario of the campaign I've caught my sniper team walking off on their own - once their Hummer went along, although the team walked. The first time I caught them before they got very far and sent them back. The second time I just watched to see what they were up to. They settled down in the middle of a field after taking a casualty. In both cases I had installed them on the top floor of a multi-story building and left them to it. Seem to be independant types, but not bright enough to avoid strolling across a wide flat field under enemy observation. I've wondered if I had inadvertently given a group order that caused them to stray, but I don't believe that was the case.
  12. I had the same experiences with attempting to breach the wall, so I assaulted the main gate. You shouldn't have too much trouble getting through it. I got bogged down after that and did not win that scenario, but that was due to my poor skill and other difficulties that are to be encountered inside the airport grounds. The scenario seems to be very difficult. In a later scenario the objective is almost completely enclosed in a wall. I breached it, and although i could not get a vehicle through, a dismounted squad made it. I later found a small gap in the wall that vehicles could pass through, but the wall-breach bug is - well - a bugger.
  13. My ATI Radeon 9800 has been running CM:SF without any problems on my MS XP pc. I haven't updated the drivers for at least a year. I've run it with 'balanced' video settings and 'best' settings. It runs slow with the 'best' settings and large forces, but I haven't had any crashes yet. I've got the resolution option set to 'desktop'.
  14. I too have seen this issue in the second (airport) mission of the campaign. I created a breach 3 'panels' wide in a perimeter wall with cannon fire from two MGS, but could not get any vehicle units to move through it (did not try foot units due to enemy fire). They all tried to go 'the long way', racing along the wall to the nearest gate, and racing back along the wall on the inside to the point just on the other side of the breach. I felt unsure about targeting the wall with the cannon, as the targeting icon shows only 'area fire' and there is no positive indication that the wall is targeted. I am sure that that is by design, but I did notice that unless I targeted the ground right at the base of the wall, rounds seemed to pass through the wall and explode a small distance on the far side of the wall. I did not see any rubble accrue where the wall had been. Other than that and the sometimes unaggressive enemy AI, I'm really enjoying some intense gaming experiences with CM:SF.
