  1. Well I have only used the raven so far - US campaign - and they are awesome in what they give you from what I have seen A real game changer. Wont post why as it may be spoilers - but so far I would take one of them over a platoon of M2's.

Edit - sorry - confusion with the new forum!

Yeah, I found them very useful in the first scenario, but had more 'fun' with them in the second!

  2. Thanks for the youtube link - the game is looking like it'll be a lot of fun to play (especially if you define fun as watching all your shiny toys being blown up in new, interesting and unexpected ways!)

I really loved the river crossing map Chris used to demonstrate the amphibious craft - the attention to detail and clever use of the railway bridges really brought it to life - well done to the map designer!

  3. Coming fashionably late to the party, just wanted to say thanks to Elvis and Bil for putting on such a good show!

I've really enjoyed reading both sides of the battle, and think I've learned a lot from each of them. Admittedly, most of what I've learned is 'Avoid playing against Bil', and 'I wouldn't start from here if I was you', but hey, that's still learning!

Good job guys - looking forward to the next AAR.

  4. I enjoyed that little preview - thanks for sharing the work in progress stuff.

Really beautiful maps on display - consider this chap sufficiently hyped for release! I'll tune in next week too - looking forward to more off-screen mine action!

  5. So you wont be fixing any bugs in Version 2 for free then using patches? I'm now confused..are you saying that any bugs in version 2 wont be fixed or we will have to pay for them if we want them fixed? You'll only fix bugs in version 1? I've stuck up for you whenever possible, surely your not going to turn around and say we get no bug fixes in version 2 even though you paid for the upgrade? If so I can't defend that statement.

No, that's not what was said.

Version 1.x will get patches for bugs up until version 3.0 is released at some point in the future (possibly by the end of this year - yay!), at which point the version 1.x game will be considered 'done' as far as supporting it goes (as 'done' as CMBO, CMBB & CMAK are). Steve's post was just saying that it is more difficult to maintain two separate code bases going forwards, not that there would be any charges for patches. So don't worry!

Edit to add: From what Steve said, version 2.x will continue to have free patches at the same time that version 1.x is getting free patches, and I'm extrapolating here, version 2.x will presumably be considered 'done' if/when version 4.0 is released in the dim distant future. There will never be paid for patches, only paid for upgrades.

  6. Hang on there, I don't think I acted at all unpleasantly - I think all name calling is wrong, that was my point.

Mind you, I also hate everyone who generalises. ;)

I guess humour is often lost when typing things out - it sounded funnier in my head.

Anyway, this is all a diversion from the main point of this thread, so I'll also bow out gracefully.

  7. You can play still play multiplayer with an opponent who upgraded to 2.0 as long as your opponent has the gumption to keep the previous version's files backed up - you can have multiple versions of CMBN - I've done this during PBEM matches where a patch has been released before we'd finished the game. So not really hard in my opinion.

I'm far more upset about this dodgy bear trading market - $10 for 10 bears? That's really cruel. Poor bears. How much does a panda go for?

Anyway, name calling (fanboys/attack trolls etc) isn't great and reduces discussions to the lowest common demoninator in my opinion.

There are some people who can get overzealous in the defence of their hobby at times, but in my experience, it's generally a reation to the way criticisms are stated rather than what is being stated.

Anyway, to mangle a famous film line, 'Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is a wargame forum!'
