  1. Interesting findings, Kev. It seems there is some consistency, just not the type that we're looking for! ToW just doesn't seem to fully utilise powerful computers... very odd. Any comments from 1C/Battlefront? Sneaksie?
  2. I guess additional confusion is added from the developers almost justifying the poor performance by saying that the ballistics calculations and high frequency LOS checks taking up CPU cycles.... but that obviously isn't the case.
  3. Yeah, performance does take a little leap with HDR/HBAO are disabled. But, that's not the point I'm making. The issue I have or, at least, I find slightly confusing, is that the game isn't fully utilising the components of my computer (and I suspect the case is exactly the same for you). I wouldn't take issue with this if the game had acceptable performance... but it doesn't. Disabling the special effects does improve things, as you said BigJ26, it just seems a shame that I have to compensate for what seems to be an odd and unoptimised engine.
  4. Join the club, K_Ninja. See my post here for my experiences: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showpost.php?p=1223934&postcount=8 Intel Core i7 930 D0 @3.8Ghz Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R (Rev.1) 6GB DDR3 Corsair PC12800 @ 1600Mhz MSI 1GB GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone OC Windows 7 64-Bit Would you mind divulging what the Battlefront/1C support teams have said to you so far? I'm just interested in what they make of this.
  5. It won't help your ToW issues, I can tell you that. Enabling all the cores gives me no tangible increase in performance. However, if you happen to play other games, like I do (e.g. Armed Assault 2), it may be worth the investment. Multi-core optimised games are finally starting to arrive but ToW 'aint one.
  6. That's the oddity of it all, Kev. Even with my CPU affinity set to a two cores, as advised my forum members and 1C developers alike (just to prevent the quad-core freezing/crashing issue), the game is hardly pushing 50% of my CPU usage, fluctuating around the mid-forties (using my coy-eye there). Likewise, the game is only utilising 3.52GB of my 6GB of RAM (bearing in mind I have Photoshop CS5 running in the background here to collect screen-dumps). This, in turn, would suggest that there is a bottleneck that lies elsewhere. Perhaps my GPU just can't keep up with my CPU? That doesn't seem to be the case as, like my CPU, GPU usage is around the 50% mark (see below for both cases). This is while running the game at the maximum graphical and audio settings, during the first mission of the German 'Operation Citadel' campaign. I'm getting ~20FPS when viewing from this angle, dipping down to ~16FPS when things get a little busy. This doesn't pose as great a problem as it does in First Person Shooters, for obvious reasons. Millisecond reaction times are not key here. But, I was kinda hoping that a system like mine would be able to run the game smoothly. It isn't game breaking, but it does make my experience unpleasant and, generally, unenjoyable. I probably won't be buying ToW3:Korea as a result. Regarding your question, ToW is built on the IL-2 engine (of flight-simulator fame). Admittedly, they are dealing with very different things (an open sky is much more efficient to render than a massive battlefield), but I didn't think the engine would struggle this much when tasked with an RTS scenario.
  7. I'm sure an x64 OS may help, but it can't make a huge difference. I struggle to run ToW in a 'suitable' way, considering my specifications, but hey-ho. Intel Core i7 930 D0 @3.8Ghz Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R (Rev.1) 6GB DDR3 Corsair PC12800 @ 1600Mhz MSI 1GB GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone OC Windows 7 64-Bit
  8. It could be fixed by updating FRAPS. As Sneaksie and I implied, it could be the FRAPS recording codec that is having issues or the AVI playback codec itself. Update FRAPS, see if that helps things a little. If not, try updating your AVI codec either through DivX or pick up one of the many codec packs, built for your operating system, that can be found all over the web. Just to check, did the videos work as-expected outside of the editing suites i.e. in Windows Media Player, during normal playback? Also, if you're lacking sound on the new videos, check that your FRAPS is drawing sound from the correct source on your system. Fiddle with some options an see if that makes any difference. Glad to see you're making some progress, though!
  9. Right, that makes sense. I guess ToW unpacks/decompresses the map when it is run for the first time? Regardless, many thanks!
  10. Exactly what Sneaksie said. It shouldn't have anything to do with the game, it sounds like a codec has changed/been corrupted. Can you play the videos outside of the video editing suite? What format are they (AVI, MPEG, WMV)? I'm pretty sure FRAPS records in AVI, so you may need to update your codec or reinstall FRAPS.
  11. Ah right, so is the teamplay option a residual of ToW2: Africa? Just seems odd to have the gametype option, but no maps that are able to use it.
  12. I'm a bit perplexed by this, also. The manual doesn't clarify how exactly it works, either.
  13. How do you mean the new captures from the Caen DLC won't work in FRAPS? Could you describe what exactly isn't working in a little more detail?
  14. I'm having a problem opening map 06_cuv in the ToW2:K map editor. The loading bar gets to '20% Loading 3D Landscape', but then it disappears and nothing happens. The other maps in the list open fine. Anyone else have this trouble, or know how to get around it?
  15. I think (I say I think as I'm not sure) it depends on if the server that you are downloading from allows resuming or not. I know one of the BFC guys made a point of the fact that their servers will allow resuming. If it was from the likes of FileFront or any of those sites that have server queing or bandwidth limits per server, I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't allow download resuming.
