  1. Indeed, however the virtually unlimited number of Javs a Stryker Coy carries is what made me hate playing Blue-on-Red on the first place. Even when you're not on the receiving end of the Hand of God, for multiplayer purposes that weapon is just not right. That's why I find it very refreshing playing as the Marines - the added tactical challenge of only having a few Javs is very nice. That said I'm pleasantly surprised at the range and accuracy of the AT-4 and the SMAW in the hands of the Marines … perhaps one of the reasons the Army units need all of those Point-Click-You-Die weapons is because they can't hit the broad side of a barn with their unguided AT assets?
  2. Well, if what I'm suggesting gets patched in, we just might!
  3. If you're using a surround sound system, make sure you don't have "Convert Stereo into Surround" turned on (could be a setting in Windows or button on the remote control, depends on your audio system). Since CMSF uses a surround sound engine, all the dynamic sounds are played on the four surround channels, and only the 'generic' ones like music and background battle sounds are played on the central mono-channel. Where as what happens when you turn on the "fake surround" is the audio system takes that one mono channel and splits it among the other 4 channels, effectively muting any inputs from those 4 channels. Also check your audio settings in Windows, make sure the drivers and speaker settings match what you actually have hooked up - again it seems like your speakers are only playing the central channel.
  4. New development in the story - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7640496.stm
  5. Actually how's this for a suggestion for a future patch - and I'm hoping some of the modders will support me on this one - define unique texture file names for every unit in the game, but also have the game load a generic infantry texture if the unit-specific texture is not present. The point is to have the engine be capable of loading unique textures if they're present, but still not overload the vanilla game with several Gigabytes of redundant copies of the same texture. That way it's possible to kill two birds with one stone - on one hand modders can still spread their wings and custom-fit the unit look to whichever scenario they're trying to replicate, but at the same time this does not force BF.C to spend any precious artwork development time on creating any extra textures or have the game bloat to several DVDs in size. It's obvious that some form of a dynamic texture file recognition and loading system is already in the game, seeing how we're able to create multiple versions of the same texture by indexing the file name, so hopefully it's possible to have the game engine look for a unique texture file before it resorts to loading a generic infantry one. I'm sure a change like this is a classic case of "sounds easy, but it ain't", but with any luck it's at least with-in the realm of possibility.
  6. Indeed, his font mod works great, especially for those trying to read the briefings on a 22" widescreen http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=75908
  7. No you can not - there were no new Red Infantry textures introduced in the Marine module ... so unfortunately it seems that the Airborne units share the same "Syrian Infantry" texture as all the other Regular Army Red units in the game. At least the T-90 got it's own texture, and not just a piecemeal of a T-72.
  8. Thank you Sir! Part-time bug-hunter extraordinaire at your service! This is going to make one epic signature!
  9. Yeah, I simply accepted the unchallenged win of that battle and moved on - everything else seems to work just fine, upto mission four already. My Top Tip of the Day - there could be more than one secondary explosion!
  10. I have Vista 64 (Home Premium), I have the BF.C version of the original, and the Marines seem to work fine on my machine. What exactly is the problem you're having, PT?
  11. I have a save game at the very start of that battle, if you'd like to see it - I've tried reloading it several times, but the red side refuses to spawn. Just say who I should send it to.
  12. Report from "Impressions", since it's more relevant here: Second Mission of the USMC Campaign, no enemy forces appeared - ceased fire after an hour: Also, in a few hours of playing I got three crash-to-desktops with an "OpenGL Error 14" message. (Vista-64, 8800GTS-SLI v177.92)
  13. Mission Two - this made for an incredibly boring hour
  14. A little puzzled by the first mission ... I took out the T-55, killed 50 enemy troops, including all HQs, captured all ground objectives, only had 5 men wounded ... and yet it only awarded me a "Draw", because I wasn't awarded enough points for Enemy Casualties. Did the briefing not say "avoid enemy patrols" and "eliminate HQs only"? I expected HQs and that tank to be assigned as a target objective, not just a blanket "kill everyone" ... instead of sending my troops into a recce I could've used that virtually unlimited ammo supply on the 155's to level the entire settlement ... bizarre.
  15. What I want to know if why was a Ukranian ship flying a flag of a central american country? Makes it especially curious considering the cargo.
  16. I bet you're just afraid that the Peng thread will turn into 4chan/b/
  17. You can actually see that method used in the "Normandy" (I think that was the name of it) mission of the TF Thunder Campaign.
  18. Haha! Used to love those... up until a point where I spent 2 weeks typing one out for a space-invaders type game only to have it fail because of a syntax error, most likely because I missed a character or two ... good times!
  19. Something has to be said about the "traditional" release method of having actual release dates ... at least if they tell us it's going to take another 3 weeks, some of us might get some sleep
  20. I vote to move CMSF:M into the Vaporware category ... right next to Duke Nukem Forever
  21. That already exists - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Mission:_Shock_Force - and it could use some serious expanding
  22. Noticed two errors in the new Marines Manual - if these have already been identified, I apologize, haven't had a lot of time lately to read the forum: Page 20 Last sentence of the "TOW2" Section erroneously refers to the weapon as "Mk19" - clearly a copy-paste from the "Dismounted Mk19 AGL" Section immediately above it. Page 26 The contents of the first paragraph of the "BMP-3" Section are almost entirely repeated by the second paragraph - i.e. the bit about the 100mm gun and it's ability to fire the Arkan missiles. Can't comment on spelling - since if it were not for spell checkers, I'd be legally illiterate Other than that, the manual was an engaging read - not something most manuals can brag about.
  23. Look what I found - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_camouflage_patterns Something tells me one of these IP addresses in the edit history is Steve's
  24. Honestly that's not saying much, considering that Canadians did not have any form of camo uniform until 2000. So it's not that the camo improved - they simply introduced camo. SG'05, eh? The last of the "Red Dawn" scenario exercises, before the CF finally realized that the Cold War is over and that the Western Germany is in no danger of getting overrun by an overwhelming force of Soviet armor
  25. ...exactly why I'm trying to maintain that Shtora type systems are not even designed to defeat conventional ballistic rounds, especially with-in their optimal firing range.
