  1. R33GZ,

Your post is pretty unfair, to say the least. This game has still some problems, but they're been adressed at the moment in the patch that is going to be released soon. And you don't need to read the posts about bugs to make yourself an opinion: there is a demo that you can check without fear of "an other flop".

Sometimes life just isn't fair Knokke... my post however, is not in the 'unfair' category.

Having persevered with ToW since its release, it is now nothing but a dust collector on my shelf. I have gone back to it on several occasions, but every time I pick it back up, install all of the patches and add ons, it still disappoints.

From what I read in this thread, a lot of the same problems are still prevalent... which means, contrary to your understanding of my post, a lot of the problems from ToW have either failed to be addressed, or deemed to be unimportant by the developers... this thread alone is proof enough that they got it wrong... again.

To be honest with you, I'm not even remotely interested in going through the torture of downloading the demo and hopping it will live up to expectations when quite clearly... it will not.

I'm not speaking here about "ass-licking"

Ha ha! good... I think its called phelching lol.

There is a lot of room for further devellopment and improvement,

There has been since the day of its first release... thats the problem... a lot of potential with a stunning looking game that has had very little follow through. Most of the points in this thread are the same points being rehashed from the release of the first version of ToW.

I get huge enjoyment out of 1C's IL21946. They have had huge success with that title... it would be great to see that happen with ToW2. but I would wagger you that this will never happen, there seems to be more importance placed on the eye candy of the game, rather than fixing fundamental flaws in the guts of the engine itself.

Enough said I think. I hope you enjoy the game, you're lucky to have someone as dedicated to the cause as Sneaksie. Best of luck to you... may you not have a dust attracting doorstop anytime in the near future.

  2. bollox! Looks like ToW2 has the exact same set of problems with AI and scripting that ToW has... good to see they really listen to their customers :-/

From the 4 pages Ive just read through, I dont think Ill be wasting another $45 ($90 NZD) on 1C's RTS games. Unfortunate, cause they sure know how to make them look good... if only they could make the game play enjoyable.

thanks for all the posts gents... you saved me the pain and expense of another flop.

  3. no worries crazyman, good to see you're still lurking around here :-)

I found it once I knew what the file name was. (all_unlock_missions.zip)

Battlefronts new search engine is kack! cant find didley squat unless you know what the exact file name is... useless!!

Anyway, go the file now... might have a nosey round for some multiplayer action sometime soon.

  4. Hi All, I have just re-installed ToW after a long hiatus... I know there used to be a download on battlefront somewhere of a complete list of saved games that worked in the uber patch.

I cant really be bothered going through and playing all of the mission again... does anyone know if the download is still available? cant seem to find it.

Is anyone still attempting to play ToW multiplayer?

    Cheers

  5. Couldnt say for sure what the problem is, but it sounds like your AT guns are probably sitting in clear view of the enemy armor?

might be a good idea to see if there is anywhere you can put your AT guns so they are not in direct line of fire... try getting down to ground level to check out the options eg. are there any ridge lines etc to give your AT guns some dead ground to hide in?

Sorry I cant help more, its been a while since I played the French Campaign, and I cant quite visualise which mission this one is

  6. Sfox28, I understand your frustration.... this game has driven me to tears on occasion ;)

As mentioned by Texma and crazyman56, it sounds like you may have misunderstood the stop order.

You need to be using the hold position button down the bottom right side of the screen. however, depending on the quality of your troops they may behave erratically when vehicles get close to them.

For instance, they may be very unskilled and panic at the sight of a Pz4 rolling up on them, or, due to the defend order, they may have decided, in their infinite wisdom, to abandon the well placed ambush position and run out into the open to get a closer shot at the armor they are trying to repel.

Aside from all of that, I have never really found infantry to be hugely valuable in this game as they tend to be more of a cannon fodder after thought... I think the game was probably designed more around the use of armor, rather than combined arms?

  7. Just to chuck my 2 cents in!

    1. No point comparing TOW to any of the CM series... they are two different kettles of fish.

    2. after playing CM for so long, you will probably initially be disappointed with the Quick Battle generator. CM is an unusual game, in the fact that it has such a massive amount of replayability. There have been big steps forward in TOW with the addition of the Battle generator, but it is still not a 2 minute job to create a battle of the like of CM.

    3. Your setup should run it no problems... Ive only git a 128mb ATI X1600 card and am able to run TOW on max settings and enjoy all its glory :D

There are still a few frustrating things in TOW... the least of which is the overwhelming odds you face in nearly all engagements.... BUT, the games looks beautiful and really does feell nice to play.

I would highly recommend buying it, budget wise, its not too expensive compared to other big titles, but you should purchase it knowing that you are getting something quite different to anything in the CM series.

BUY IT... LIKE IT YOU WILL

  8. bugger! :D

I assume you gave all of your troops hold position orders? This shoudl have worked and made them hold their ground... the only time it wont work is when they are overrun and panicking or taking large amounts of incoming HE... then your screwed, they'll just round like headless chooks.

As for your armour, you might need to find a better ambush spot... sounds like they were being flanked if they were turning to face an enemy?

It can be frustrating sometimes when you have to baby a fully grown tank. I suggest excessive use of the pause button :)

  9. Hi Laz, crazyman is right, should be in the strategy and tactics forum... but, since were here, would be rude to not give some advice ;)

the problem is most likely that for some reason there a few maps where you are required to eliminate every last breathing opponent.

You will need to scour the map with as many wheeled/tracked vehicles as possible, in as many different directions as possible.

more than likely there is an enemy gun crew or tank crew skulking around the map somewhere.. it is frustrating, I was hoping the patch had fixed this problem... apparently not. Fortunately, not all of the maps have this victory condition.

    Good luck

  10. I would have thought that TD's were more commonly used in defense... couldnt say for sure though... just the way I used them in CM.

i always found that my M10's would get nailed in attack, but in defense they were strong when given a well sighted ambush

[i just realised how stupid that sounds..... all armour should perform well when given a well sighted ambush  ]

  11. billy, I found that the best way to finish this mission (probably one of the harder missions) is to have a good spotter on the top of the hill near the intersection, keep him prone and he shoudl be able to spot most/all of the guns on the reverse slope.

once you have them spotted you go about setting up your attack

On your right flank, you can scoot a PZ35 around the dead ground and inch him forward until you see 2 bulldozer like french tanks... once you have dealt to them, your right flank is secure

Your infantry are, generally speaking, going to get obliterated in this game. i found that the best way to wipe out the first line of guns is crawl you infantry right up to the ridge line, then charge the gun crews with grenades out, follow up with a charge by your tanks, this tends to do 2 things... it gives the enemy gun crews too much to aim at and lets your infantry have one of its only valuable moments in this mission.

From here it tends to be a slug fest, with the second line of AT guns being your primary targets

you are going to loose units... infact, by the time you finish the mission, you will more than likely have sustained a minimum of 50% cassualties... but thats war I guess.

    Happy Hunting

  12. just wondering if anyone, other than me is using a Mac to play TOW.

At the moment I am unable to use the map editor as it is displayed upside down.

This was a problem I encountered on the actual game app when I first purchased TOW, and seems to be a special problem for mac's running windows.... buggered if I know why though.

Anyway, the problem was fixed by changing a small line of text in the ww.ini file (I think thats what it was called)

Anyone out there got a clue on how to fix this? its kinda hard to edit maps when your screen is upside down and mouse is back to front.

    thanks in advance

  13. isnt that the problem.... the difficulty level you playing.

I think I remember reading somewhere that veteran level now gives the enemy AI increased opportunity and medium is now realistic, or on par with player.

From what you guys are saying, that woudl make sense wouldnt it?

I havent played the normandy campaign yet though, so can't be 100% on that.

  14. My guess... and this is a guess, would be that since the American and British armies were historically on the attack in mainland Europe, their front line never really contained permanent fortifications such as concrete pillboxes... at least not in the battles depicted in TOW and as the QB generator is probably using info available to it from the missions already created, it does not allow for the creation of a 'what if' scenario because it is outside the parameters of what it knows... software is stupid... it can only do what is has been programmed to do.

ANyways... like a said, just a guess.

Not really a point worth arguing over though
