  1. This campaign brought CMSF back to life for me. Haven't played it in weeks and only reinstalled it for this campaign. And it's definitely worth it.

Really like the CAS action in the 2nd scenario. Wasn't aware how powerful A-10s can be on area fire until this scenario. Fun to watch!

I just played scenario 3 and had some of the most amazing infantry firefights since I bought this game. True BHD style. Was stuck in the middle of the map with the snatch group unable to advance because the guys were fighting a 270 degree defensive battle for their lifes.

    This campaign is PURE FIRE!!!

Thanks for the effort and time you invested into this excellent product, Normal Dude!

  2. I really should get a PBEM sorted out with someone. Would you believe I am not sure how to go about it?

My LAN games with Mishga keep me going but she's incredibly busy being the "Best Mum in the World" at the moment.

Forum Lads, if you want a PBEM I would be willing to try and provide a decent challenge. Happy to play RED or BLUE, not fussed.

Never played CMSF multiplayer myself. How does it actually work? There doesn't seem to be a an ingame lobby to find opponents. How can I find other players?

  3. thx for the encouragement handihoc. I've just started reworking the whole concept and am designing a new map around it. It's a bit inspired by James Jones' "A Thin Red Line" and centers around the idea of how the Japanese defended pacific islands in WWII. The scenario will combine mountainous, densly vegetated terrain with a mean placement of enemy fortifications and hopefully will present a true challenge to you guys.

Might take some time until the whole thing is finished though, since I have a couple of deadlines coming up.

  4. I made this scenario to experiment with jungle warfare in CM:SF. You lead a battalion sized task force (2 mech. INF companies and 1 airborne company) to attack an enemy HQ in the jungle. Enemy defenses are heavily fortified and equiped with heavy MGs and GLs. The key to success is to surpress the enemy firing positions with artillery, while advancing.

There are two basic routes you can try to advance along, both featuring different challanges. It's a slow and brutal battle. Expect to take many casualties.

I tagged this as beta, because the briefing is really superficial and I'm not sure if the victory conditions will work as I want. So this scenario is not 100% polished yet. I'd appreciate your feedback.

I uploaded it at cmmods.com and here: http://lenny.liquid-skill.de/Jungle_Fever.zip

  5. Yes, but from one mine strike you don't know how large the minefield is and where/if there is a way around it. The way it is in CMSF right now, you can't do anything else but keep sending your troops into another direction hoping you are lucky enough to find the right path. That's like Russian roulette. In reality, once you hit a mine, you can try to locate a secure path through or around a minefield.

Not being able to detect mines is clearly a design flaw of CMSF. That's why I don't like to play scenarios with mines included.

  6. #CONTAINS SPOILERS#

Incredibly tense mission. End result: Total Victory with 14 KIA, 41 WIA and 3 armored vehicles lost. Deployed most of my blocking force southwest corner, because I received fire from that area. Managed to hold the line with one platoon and the two 50cals. After ordering the four AAVPs round the forest in the east to the blocking position, they provided additional direct fire support. With that support in place I sent all three squads to the forest. Two to the western most part (at the end of the map). They cleared the enemy out and managed to hold on to that position during the rest of the game. The third squad wasn't so lucky. After receiving a few harmless potshots from inside the forest they went in to investigate and ... only one lonely soldier returned. :[

The two platoons in the northeast, near the highway, moved to the nearest forest and tried to work their way west. BMPs and entrenched enemy troops were dealt with by CAS and mortars. Although I soon noticed that that wasn't enough to convince the enemy party on the small hill to stop fighting. So when the recon element arrived in their LAVs arrived, I moved them and the thrid platoon round the forest to the southeast and advanced along the road west towards the hill and the compound.

Meanwhile in the south another platoon and the mk19s arrived and simulteanously an enemy counterattack through the forest commenced. It was repelled with the help of the AAVPs.

In the middle of the map, on the southeastside, my troops slowly advanced on both sides of the road. They were stopped shortly before the forest ended, in sight of a few houses. Now there were two platoons, and the LAVs area firing towards the west while in the south the blocking position still struggled to repel the enemy counterattack. Tracers everywhere! That was probably one of the most intense moments I ever had in CMSF. The force in the middle finally managed to push forward. Of course while being harrased by enemy troops somewhere in the forest to the south.

After reaching the few houses the mission ended with full victory.

    FANTASTIC MISSION!!!

*I've to admit that I cheated by deleting all mines. As long as it's not possible for troops to detect mines, they are just a big fun killer. I hope that gets fixed with the next patch.

  7. Hi,

now finished the Airfield mission but if I cease-fire in the following depot mission the campaign ends with a message like: the road to Dinas is open now and our forces can advance. Is the campaign supposed to end at this point. I mean it's been a lot of fun so far, but I thougt that there were more missions. Could it be that the campaign ends so early for me because of casualties? I lost about 45 men KIA and a few more WIA, including Battalion command.

  8. Am I going to need the forces from the Suib mission for a another mission?

Because with 27 casualties and a couple of vehicles shot up alone in this mission all three platoons are now more or less at squad strength :[

Suib's been the toughed mission yet. Managed to succeed in all previous missions with relatively few casualties. Perhaps it was the lack of potent direct fire support that made Suib such a hard nut.

I also lost my battalion command group to a lucky enemy mortar shot. Is that going to affect me later in the campaign?

Btw, I love your campaign PT! Great maps, great unit placements, great atmosphere and excellent meta campaign.

  9. Thanks for taking the time to comment on this scenario GSX. I'm glad you like it :)

BTW if you like infantry heavy, try Webwing's "Red Pepper" scenario. I also made another infantry-only scenario set in Afghanistan called "Dawn Raiders". You can get both on CMMODS.com.
