  1. Hi,

I know there are some incredibly good missions in the three official campaigns.

But it's been ages since I've played them and unfortunately I've lost/deleted all my savegames. And I don't want to play through the whole campaigns again just to get to my favorite missions.

Is it possible to get the campaign missions as standalone singleplayer missions?

Or would somebody publish his campaign savegames.

  2. There is a very simple work around for this problem actually. Add more Red troops that are set as reinforcements, with the arrival time set past the length of the scenario. They never arrive on the map, but they still have weight in the surrender calculations. Just make sure you don't add too many and the player destroys every Red unit and still doesn't get a surrender!

Thanks for the advice, didn't know that. Will try it on occasion.

  3. Thanks again, for another detailed review!

The premature surrender of RED troops is a real issue. It's something I'm quite annoyed about in other scenarios as well, but I haven't found a way to fix it so far. Seems that it is an engine limitation/bug.

There are two more of my scenarios on the Repository: The Green Zone and The Maroon Machine. But both don't quite reach the quality of Royal Mud Marines and Joint Venture.

The Green Zone is about a USMC convoy getting ambushed in densely vegetated farm land and having to fight for survival until a relief force arrives. It is quite challanging and can be a bit laggy at times.

The Maroon Machine simulates an attack of a Britisch Para Battalion on a bridge area. This was more a feasibility study to test the limits of scenarios in terms of number of troops, size of the map and complexity of the scenario. It requires quite a bit of coordination. One big drawback in this scenario, as some reviewers have already and rightly pointed out, is that a company of RED reinforcements arrives at the setup zone of BLUE forces. So you should leave the setup zone as fast as possible. Also, since the scenario involves an entire Battalion on the BLUE side and several companies on the RED side it demands A LOT of CPU power.

If you're searching for similiar scenarios with challanging AI setup and counter attacks I highly recommend to try ThePhantom's scenarios. Played a few of them myself the last couple of nights. The maps are excellent (offering a lot of tactical opportunities and threats) and the enemy counter attacks are absolutely vicious.

The scenarios I played and would judge as some of the best CMSF scenarios available are: The Badinni Dilemma, UK Blinkered, USMC Cherry Point and USMC Clean Sweep. The first two are on the respository, the latter are only available on GreenAsJade's CM:SF site: http://cmsfmods.greenasjade.net/scenarios/search?search=phantom&commit=Search

  4. I'm really happy to hear such a positive review. I especially like that you had the patience to not give up on the scenario after a first defeat.

Another scenario with a few positive reviews is Joint Venture, available on the repository.

I'm constantly thinking about doing new scenarios. It's just difficult to find the time for developing the ideas and making the scenario.

  5. I used to have afreu as username on the main site. Somehow that got changed to my email adress.

The problem is that when I try to change my username from my email adress back to afreu I get the message: "This username/password already in use. Try another."

It's not a big deal. It's only that since I already uploaded a few scenarios with my old username on the repository I'd like to continue using it.

  6. Hi,

I recently had difficulties to login on the Battlefront.com Main Page. I used the "forgotten password" function and tried to login without success. Until I discovered that the login works when I use my E-Mail adress instead of my user name (afreu).

Now that I'm logged in again I attempted to change my user name back to "afreu. But this doesn't work, instead I get the following message: "This username/password already in use. Try another."

    Can somebody please help me.

    Regards,

    afreu

  7. A really good book and one of the best war books I've read is WAR by Sebastian Junger.

I also read 3 Para some time ago, but found it too repetitive after the first couple of chapters. In this regard another Afghanistan book to avoid is "Immediate Response" by Mark Hammond.

EDIT: Just had a look at some of the recommendations. Had to laugh at the subheading of CONTACT CHARLIE: "The Canadian Army, the Taliban, and the Battle That Saved Afghanistan". Sounds like they won the war 4 years ago, but just didn't care to tell anyone

  8. Is this still being worked on?

There have been no news on this module for ages. While there are already more or less regular updates on the Normandy game. What's taking so long? I don't think I'm unreasonable here. I'm willing to give you my money for your product. I know this is a niche game, you're not catering to the masses and all that but it is kind of weird if you have to beg as a customer to get some updates.

  9. Thanks for your feedback soldierz!

The number of troops seems to be a real issue. I've made some unsuccessful attempts to redesign the mission in order to optimise its performance. It's difficult to downsize it, since the whole scenario (the size and structure of the map, strategic locations, etc.) is tailored for a battalion attack. I guess what I envisioned with this battle is just too much for the CM:SF engine / the average PC.

I'll just leave it as it is and instead spent the time on new scenarios.

Playing with one company only, it will be quite challenging to survive the CQB fighting in the village after crossing the river and probably very difficult to capture the northern and southern heights. Nevertheless it seems you had quite a good time playing through the first two phases of the battle.

I realise that the mechanized counter attack can be a source of frustration. Ideally it would start 30-45 minutes later, but due to the time limit (latest reinforcement for unwanted units 3h) I had to schedule its appearance earlier. Which brings me to another update wish for the next CM:SF module or CM:N. Please add (1) an option to postpone the arrival of unwanted units (such as HQs) indefinitely or (2) add more reinforcement time options (+3:30, +4:00, ...).

  10. Generally I'd say reload when you're not having fun any more. If you're playing multiplayer, it would not be advised. ;)

    x2

One of the reasons I never finished the official campaigns is that I felt I had to reload everytime I took significant losses.

A good scenario is one in which suffering casualties doesn't kill the gaming experience.
