  1. Everyone that hates this game expected a Company of Heroes-like clone, even though I love that game, where at 2 feet away the soldiers with bottomless clips fire off over 150 rounds to WOUND one guy. This game was built to simulate war from 3rd person, as realistically as possible. Thats why good soldiers in this game are able to hit a target at over 300meters. Everyone who says this is pure eye-candy must almost be stupid, COH is pure eye-candy this game has good visuals but the main focus is on the battles not the butterflies landing on the foliage. I almost bought this game but decided to wait and download the demo, and although it has a few boring spots, the combat is superb, in this game not every single tanks explodes into a hundred pieces. I have only seen 3-4 tanks actually blow up. Also why does everyone complain about the camera and GUI? I adapted to it by the end of the first tutorial, it is extremly simple and to the point, although I have to admit the way all of the keys are setup it can be a little difficult to manage your troops and turn, move and rotate the camera all at once. I guess that is why they invented a pause button eh? Its there use it, I pause, gander at the penetration marks on tanks then micro some troops, decide what tanks are a priority and should be tackled first. Then again the LOS thing is funny but realistic, there is something called a "scout" skill on all soldiers, as said in the tutorial they are used to spot enemies and not be seen themselves. When there are tanks firing on you from behind a hedgerow there are probably infantry that can see you, or even the tank commander is using his binoculars... Either way I enjoy the fact that infantry can sneak up on you.
  2. Hmmm, I thought ArmA would end up being another lame shooter like BF2 or COD, they are all exactly the same anymore, just a different year... Games like OFP gave it a interesting style, a realism, a sim. To know that you and maybe 2-3 guys can't take on an armour division, that has infantry support and such. I might have to look into it further. I might even buy OFP, I borrowed it for PC, and rented it for Xbox. It was very fun and its campaign kept me going late into the night... Maybe tis game will too....
  3. Yeah OFP was a great game... Even tough its graphics were a little dated, it was one of the best military sims ever... You could creat skirmishes, and ambush patrols in the dark...
  4. Personally, in this realism game, it should be there, but the it shouldn't because just like Reichenberg said, they wouldn't last long, a single 81mm mortar shell would kill all 1-6 soldiers on the tank... Even a MG ambush, one mg42 or .30 cal would slaughter them before they could even reach for the trigger of their rifle, let alone hop off.. From the looks of the screenshots the infantry will be doing a lot of stop and go... Run 30 yards to the log, stop, sit 3-5 minutes while engaged... Rinse and repeat... It would be some serious coding that would need to be done... Maybe later in a patch or someone will mod it that way... Who knows, they might prove us wrong...
  5. I am playing BF1942 with the Forgotten Hope mod, COH, BF2 and thats about it... Only thing is BF2 is the only one that likes my PC... The others after installation they crash... 1942 crashes on every map while loading...
  6. Yeah most of the time games don't come out with a mission editor, they wait several months and release a insanely large patch that create more bugs than needed fixing, and a highly incomplete SDK set that goes through 2 more patches and only sees minor bug fixes... Then after that, a new game goes into development and the SDK for this game is dropped (officially) and is left for somone to finish it or make a 3rd party editor... I'm not saying that will happen with this game, just the fact 70% of the RTS games I own went through a similar process, abou 10% not even getting a official SDK. Theres 15% that come with one, but are highly non-user friendly that has no read-me. Another 5% that are dropped after release, and don't see a patch for over a year... Even then it contains nothing special...
  7. Yeah, that would be cool. It would keep your troops from getting fatigued while running like 10 miles... One of those well used things about a tank, mostly troop transports...
  8. Ah, thanks, I had figured, but I just thought I would ask. I guess when the time comes Ill make due with rocks and bushes hehe.
  9. Wow. This game looks awesome... I love realism and all, but the screens and videos make WWII look like a small war... I am only seeing maybe 30 units at a time, will there be large skirmishes? Say 40-50 guys on each side with 2-5 tanks? Also from the looks of it there are no quick build defences, like sandbags and stuff... For example; You attack a village/town and capture it, and are expecting a counterattack but the village has little to no set defensive structures... That is where you have infantry fill bags up with dirt or something, pile logs for protection, rather than stand upright firing towards APC's and such... I take it there are no constructables...
  10. <quote>I do NOT have to run in compatibility mode.</quote> I didn't say anyone had to just the fact if problems arise, the option is there...
  11. Yeah, Vista has this neat tab labeled "Compatibility" where you can set it to run as if it was in Windows XP 2000, NT... The only problem is the installation, sometimes the Setup.exe doesn't recognize Vista as a OS... Of course I have games that were built in Window 95, like SP1 that ran in XP n SP2
