  1. Yesterday I started the Crossroads trilogy mini campaign in real time. I only paused the game when reinforcements arrived or when I wanted to give many orders simultaneously (e.g. when a large enemy force was moving through my troops FOV and I wanted to engage them). It was a lot of fun and almost like a completely different game. The result of the first mission was a major vicotry for me with 3 KIA and 24 WIA. In my last attempt in this mission which I played in WEGO I already had this amount of casualties midway through the scenario. I saw me moving my squads up carefully and slowly, one action spot at a time until my virtual soldiers received incoming in which case I let them hit the deck, pop smoke, return fire or whatever. Doing this is not possible in WEGO of course and it highly reduced my casualties (which are still a bit high maybe, but I'm not a very good player anyway ;-P). I used cover arcs more than I normally do in WEGO and I had the impression that the AI is quite reluctant to engage (faint) targets inside their cover arc, especially if only a part of the squad has LOS to it (target line is grey instead of blue). What I most like about RT, and what Paper Tiger already said, is that you can play "faster" with RT. I was able to play the aforementioned 90 Minutes scenario in about 2 hours or so while I played on the same scenario for several days in WEGO and still had not finished it. Well, thanks for starting this thread Paper Tiger. I've never really tried RT before. Not because I'm a militant WEGO player who is afraid of change - I simply didn't do it.
  2. Hessians have the very best dialect in Germany, see Badesalz
  3. Steve explained something about this in the Questions about the question marks thread. At one point he said, question marks represent all sorts of contacts be it sound or sight. You can read his post here. Thus one can assume that TacAI should hear things and react to it?
  4. If I remember correctly multi-player multiplayer (e.g. 2 players on either side of a scenario in a sort of chain of command) should be possible with the new game engine but was not fully developed for CMSF. I haven't read anything about this being in CM Normandy yet.
  5. I don't see any benefit of TrackIR in a game like Combat Mission.
  6. Real life kill ratio between Bradleys and BMPs, on what are those numbers based? Iraq wars?
  7. The Ofp/Arma community is a bit divided about what to expect from Ofp2 and Arma2 I think but by now most of the people think Arma2 will be the better combat simulator than Ofp2. I haven't really followed the development of both in the past but the last preview of Arma2 confirmed my opinion that it has high potential to be as disastrous as Arma when it was released (the initial Arma release was buggy as hell and high expectations of the community were disappointed - I think the community is in the exact same situation now before Arma2 release than it was a few years ago before Arma was released.) To get back on topic: I also think that infantry is very fragile in CMSF compared to CMBB or any other previous CM game. I did not observe anything about it getting better or worse with the patches (Steve said the kill ratio of high explosives was tuned down since 1.0 if I remember correctly). Fact is that it is far more easy to get your infantry wasted in CMSF than in CMx1 games. But what is the reason behind that? The 1:1 representation? Are the modern rifles/weapons more lethal than WW2 ones? I know it is a bit like comparing apples and oranges and I know something similar has been discussed before but I'm too lazy to search this thread and read it to find out the conclusion
  8. I don't think Battlefront will release the British Forces and NATO close together because they want to keep us entertained until CM Normandy will be released. So I guess Brits will come in one or two months and a few months later we will see NATO.
  9. Ofp was developed by Bohemia Interactive as well as Arma and Arma2. Codemasters published Ofp and now is developing Ofp2 on their own.
  10. Play Operation Flashpoint with WGL mod or Armed Assault with ACE if you want to have a more realistic yet entertaining "Shooter" experience...
  11. Interesting link. I'm undecided about how much to believe from this report as it does not state how many NCOs or officers observed those behaviours. But nothing in this report sounds completely unbelievable, so... I'd better say: how much of the things said there can be assumed to be a common German tactic, e.g. "The crew bailed out immediately, and we thought the tank was out of action. However, the gunner remained in the vehicle. After we had stopped watching this particular tank, the gunner fired two rounds at us"
  12. Weren't the French ruled out years ago?
  13. Cool  Will the bundle come in a "two in one" installer? And will this require different patching of the base game and the two modules? I hope not since this can't be what you want, there are already patches for 4 different branches of the game (Paradox version, Battlefront version, Gamersgate version and Marines) and I don't think you want to have two more like "Brits module version" and "Marines and Brits bundle" version patch. Please say yes
  14. Why is there always this disturbing music in those otherwise interesting videos?
  15. This may sound dumb but I'm asking anyway: How can this be useful to scenario designers? Wouldn't it be more useful if the scenario or map editor had an option to load an image overlay (like it is possible in the map editor for Highway to the Reich for example)? I mean you still have to alt-tab all the time between the map editor and the google earth in order to make your map, don't you?
  16. That is a very good and interesting presentation. A must see for every Shock Force player. Thanks for posting. Does anyone have a clue how this can be downloaded?
  17. Do they require the Marines module? I can not recall seeing those two missions in the repository for CMSF "base game"...
  18. Hi jwstet, I'm interested in Red on Red PBEM (The Eid Offensive for example). I don't have the Marines Module. Wrtie me a PM with your Email adress if you are interested (I hope you have a mail account which can handle the massive CMSF email sizes, it annoys me when I have to download each turn from rapidshare or something ).
  19. You mean this man survived both bombings, I mean he was present in Nagasaki AND Hiroshima when the actual bombs were dropped or only in one of them (which doesn't make it any better for him nevertheless...)?
  20. The loosely based on Afghanistan events and mountain setting caught my attention. Looking forwared to playing this
  21. I've read almost the complete thread now (it was the first time I really dealt with CMC - I never followed the threads in this board much, I only had general interest in CMC) and I came to the conclusion that my operational level wargame of choice remains the Airborne Assault series. Actually I think CMC never had (even a remote) chance of being as good as Highway to the Reich or Conquest of the Aegean. Anyway: Thank you for trying Hunter!
  22. I don't think SES is interested in hiring a neutral party for a survey. As said before they appear to be paranoid about their DRM and furthermore they don't have the funds for such a survey I guess.
  23. And exactly this is the reason I won't buy this game. It's a pity because I've been hearing only good things about it apart from the DRM. I don't think SES will get rid of the DRM soon. They are too paranoid about it from what I've read in their "official" forums.
  24. 1. I don't know but assume it is not 2. no, you are dependant on the campaign/scenario designer's decisions on equipment 3. no, see 2. 4. no 5. your question is not specific enough to give a valid answer; what "huge problems" do you refer to?
