  1. Found the Data folder, but no Z. I'm new to Vista, does someone know where I can find the right folder? thanks.
  2. I loved it as well. I like the feel of the USMC "light" forces and an infantry company supported by realistic assets. The mission was well thought out and I absolutely loved how each of them tied together with extending the map!! That was excellent. I'm off this weekend, so if you could throw together a couple more like that by Friday, that would be great. ;o)
  3. Or you can buy it from Battlefront directly and support the development of this series. I'm all about a bargain, but I'm all about supporting those that give me endless hours of fun.
  4. And speaking of ammo, could someone make a mod with a counter instead of the bars? I don't know how many rounds per man a full bar indicates, could be 40, could be 400. Makes a difference at times. Also with the aircraft, I've looked and can't find what each of the bars mean. I would think it is light, medium, heavy, but it doesn't seem to be that way. And with arty, the first is HE, the third is smoke; what other munitions are graphed? Also be nice to have counters on the arty ammo.
  5. Fun battle!! I managed to beat it on the third try. Still had 27 kia and 49 wia, 5 vehicles destroyed. The only thing that I would ask for is a couple vehicles to resupply the ANA with 5.45mm. Other than that, it was a blast!! Thanks.
  6. Thanks!! I played a couple of the scenarios from the repository and they were very fun. Looking forward to linking it all together.
  7. Thanks, that worked. I was just looking under C:\programfiles\battlefront\CMSF\gamefiles. That's where they used to be!! Thanks again.
  8. I just bought a new computer and it is vista. I went to clear out the save game files and the folder appears empty. I have a couple pages of saved games on the game menu. Has anyone else had this? Is there something I need to change in vista? I've never had vista before, so I am on a learning curve here. Thanks for any help.
  9. But, I should also say, that I am only on mission three and so far it is a great campaign. Good briefings and maps, challenging scenarios. Thanks for the great product, I can't imagine how much time has been devoted to it.
  10. Yep, fired off all the missiles from the ground teams and over half of the bmp missiles, only six knocked out enemy tanks. Not very accurate, and then not very lethal when they would hit. I've lost faith in the AT4!!! ;o)
  11. So, I'm buying a new system right now. Should I go with a GT220 or HD4650?
  12. The scenario depot has a designer or two that have put out several that sound like what you are looking for. Go there and search around a bit.
  13. Go here and order the anthology, all three CMx1 games. Best $20 I ever spent and NWS gives great service. http://yhst-12000246778232.stores.yahoo.net/comian.html
  14. Unless there are huge leaps and bounds in improvement to the CMSF engine, particularly the TAC AI for individual infantry, I won't buy a WWII game based on it. I think Matrix or someone needs to pick up the CMx1 engine and improve on it. By doing the ideas above I'd certainly buy a new game. Then modules based on different theaters or conflicts (Arab-Israeli, Korea, WWIII, etc.) There is still lots of money to be made with the old system, without a huge amount of work involved.
  15. I can see the biggest advantage for night ops. You don't fast rope at night. You keep the birds in motion so the enemy doesn't know you are dropping bodies and gives a better element of surprise.
  16. The main advantage of using a CH46/47 in comparison to a fixed wing aircraft is that you do not need an airfield to take off from. This allows airborne operations from seaborne assets as well as forward deployed assets.
  17. I carried an M9 for four years and the 96G civilian model for about 11 years. It is a good, reliable and accurate weapon. I only had two malfunctions in all those years and both were due to ammo, not the weapon. Recently switched to the Sig P226 .40 and absolutely love it. Tack driver that feels good and comfortable. Some swear by Glock, also known as "tactical tupperware", but I could never get very accurate with it. As to the Desert Eagle, I've never shot the big ones, but the baby Eagle in .40 shoots like a dream. Little heavy, but a very nice weapon.
  18. I'm sure I'll be playing for a long time to come. CMx2 WWII will need a lot of work to get up to the standard of CMx1, until that happens, I can't see leaving these games. Best on the market, even today.
  19. It seems to me that only the man made objects or differences in elevation provide cover, but maybe I'm wrong. Do trees, rocks, etc give cover bonuses?
  20. Almost looks like a cratering charge. Maybe they didn't know what they were using.
  21. I never left BB and AK, and am awaiting 1.03 so I can start up some more SF pbem. I am confident that SF will patched to perfection in the next few months, but I'm also sure it won't take the place of the BB and AK games. I'm just not a big desert fan, once the modules start coming I'm sure it will take up more of my time. Once the WWII stuff comes, then BB and AK might be retired. A couple questions to anyone in the know: Are there plans to allow larger battles in the future? Along the Regt (+) scale or will the new ones model the small stuff only? Will the modules "build" the game as they come out? i.e. 10 vehicles added in the second module can be used for scenario creation in the first module setting? Or will they all be stand alone theaters?
  22. Once the action starts it isn't so bad. I suppose if you are more Patton than Monty there is less to sit through as well. I'm sure once the TACAI is fixed it will come into it's own, until then RT (with lots of pausing) will probably be the way to play.
  23. The WEGO system is a kludge because you have to sit through the whole minute and can't fast forward like the old one. That just kills it when things are slow. Granted this is only my opinion why it would be a "kludge", or whatever that is. I find that I play RT just because of that, but I'm constantly pausing because I have to monitor multiple plt's and their orders/actions. So I'm not really doing the RT how it is "supposed" to be, because any self respecting grog has to micromanage all his units. Then, like previously stated, a Stryker gets whacked that isn't in my current view and I have no idea what happened. The other 40 guys in the plt don't tell you and I'm sure there is a notable difference between an RPG, mine, airstrike, arty, ATGM or T72, but I am at a loss. Granted I understand FOW and all, but that isn't all that "realistic" either. Maybe RT with a 3 minute recording loop with ability to review would solve the issue sufficiently. As for the realism debate of RT vs WEGO, with a lack of a very detailed orders system there is no possibility of commanding anything larger than a plt, and some would argue a squad, in RT without constantly pausing. Most 20th and 21st century command systems go down to the corporals running the fire teams. With all levels of command acting independently towards the common goal or mission. The flexibility and independent thinking at all levels of command is necessary for the fluid battlefields that the little pixeltruppen storm across today. That would be impossible for BF to code, so we have to step in and give commands as fire team leaders, squad leaders, plt leaders, company commanders and etc. It just can't be done in RT without pausing to "realisticly" reflect all the decisions that are made at every level to shape the battlefield. So, we are right back to the stopping the game every minute to reissue orders to cope with the changing situations and inputting the actions and reactions of every unit to the dynamics of the battlefield. RT is fine, and with the WEGO system the way it is, RT is how I play the game. It works ok. The old system, as posted earlier, seemed to be pretty much perfected and would be great to have again. RT is really the only way to play the game right now. Hopefully that will change with the promises of 1.03. Right now it is, well, infuriating to have to watch the TACAI run your troops for an entire minute without being able to intervene in some way.
