  1. Anyone know any tweaks for theatre of war? since it uses the IL2 engine do we have the options of cranking up some of the graphic options? was looking in the video.ini and its pretty light compared to the IL2 config.. anyone know what some of the options do and what their options are? PSM=1 (i assume this is pixel shader model?, only 1? can this be set to 2 or 3?) WaterQuality=2 (if set to 3 is this equivelant to IL2's perfect water setting?) ObjectsQuality=3 GrassAll=4 TreesDistLod=2 TreeDistance=2 HideBodies=1 (not sure what this is, does this leave dead bodies in the world if set to 0?) Noise=1 Sky=1 there also seems to be some more options under ww.ini, these look more like the IL2 settings SpecularLight=2 DiffuseLight=2 DynamicalLights=1 MeshDetail=2 VisibilityDistance=3 TexFlags.HardwareTL=1 TexLarge=1 TexQual=3 TexMipFilter=2 TexCompress=2 (setting this to 0 disables texture compression) TexFlags.UseAlpha=0 TexFlags.UseIndex=0 TexFlags.UseDither=1 TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0 TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1 TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0 TexFlags.PolygonStipple=1 TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1 TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1 Shadows=3 Specular=3 Sky=2 Forest=2 LandShading=0 LandDetails=0 LandGeom=0 ShadowsFlags.SmoothBorder=0 DrawCollisions=1 TexLandQual=0 TexLandLarge=0 PerPixelShader=1 ShaderQuality=3 seems some that are missing from IL2 are Effects HardwareShaders (this may be always set to 1 now) Water TypeClouds
  2. it is suppose to come with a manual, box , cd
  3. look at the file size, make sure it is the full 1.8Gb
  4. the problem is the craptastic host they are going with.. check yoru file size, i bet 10$ any corrupted download is being cut short.. mine only made it to 220Mb, and again only to 565Mb.. for some reason the download is completing early... i never thought i'd ever have to use a DL manager on broadband.. I don't mean to sound overly critical, but next time you release a game.. just go with someone like fileplanet or something.. even bittorrent has inherently built in error correction etc.. to handle this.. it really makes me appreciate steam in that it just works... anyways hopefully 3rd time is the charm for me.. (and another 3 hours to go yay for downloading all evening!)...

  8. at least they haven't come out and said "Don't worry, we have Phat pipes that can handle it"... for those of you who where part of that fiasco called WWII-Online, you'll understand...
  9. i have to agree with the others, 24hours is not a "pre-release". Again a win for HL2/Valve and Steam.. if you remember, with Half life 2.. You could actually "pre-download" the game, even before you bought it.. then on release day you'd only had to download a 30Mb activation when you bought the game. and off you play.. this 24 hour pre-release might feel like a benefit if we where actually pre-downloading the game now.. but i can almost see it now, 18th they open the downloads.. Everyone rushes to downlaod.. Download goes really slow. You get to play the game the afternoon of the 19th.. But yay, i saved 10 dollars that if i would have just waited for the 19th i would have just got the download only version and saved the same 10$.. you can add me to the group that doesn't care about the 10$.. the whole point of the pre-order was getting and playing game early.. with the game being gold, i'm just trying to fathom why they wouldn't just open it up to the pre-orders..
  10. So how exactly we we re-activate it if we failed to un-activate a copy? the reason i ask is the main reason for reinstallation is a reformat or loss of an HD.. This is one of the reasons i do like Steam. No matter what happens, or where I login.. All my games follow me with Steam. I fully support online activation (anything that helps combat piracy). but the idea of having to unactivate before being able to re-activate is a little scarey. That is the reason i just wanted to ask, how does one re-activate if the copy doesn't happen to get unactivated first? with microsoft its already bad enough trying to re-activate if you need to.. Hopefully ToW w/BF isn't as painful.. also, you mentioned a possible move to steam in the future.. I know its just a possibility but if you do move there, hopefully you'll allow us to migrate an old copy onto steam..
  11. Its best ot get used to online verification.. it is the wave of the future of PC gaming.. And is truly the only way companies have to combat piracy.. The only thing i will say is that i don't mind online verification but it would have been nice for both the end user and for battlefront too, that maybe getting ToW on valve's steam would have been a good route to go and use the muscle of steam for both the online verification and the massive steam userbase (maybe get more sales that way?)
  12. it seems in all the WWII footage you see you don't really see a whole lot of Swastika's on the general troops though, maybe the SS divisions (since they where directly under the nazi party's control).. hopefully, even if it is modded, its not done just for the sake of doing it..
