  1. Hear, hear, another vote for small campaigns! I am loving this game but am feeling overwhelmed at the size of the maps. I"m sure I will like the big maps later but I feel I have work up to them. As one of those Eastern-front-only/CMBB guys, it's great to be back at Battlefront, by the way, and seeing some old familiar names after a very long absence. I see z1812, for instance, we shared quite a few battles back then ...
  2. Ok got it, thanks all for the speedy and detailed responses! Very helpful ...
  3. Hello, I am playing the final scenario in the Russian training campaign and am seeing something odd here. One of the objectives is a bridge. I have attempted to send some tanks over the bridge, but when they reach the bridge they turn around and begin heading back to the setup zone. In other words, the game is treating the bridge as unpassable terrain and as there is no other direct route to that part of the map, the AFVs are trying to go all the way around the map to get the indicated waypoint, eg the other side of the bridge. Question: Is this right? The bridge is unusable by armor?
  4. Hell of a thread, by the way. My last word on this: "Hogan's Heroes."
  5. Here was the question: "Why not have a mod where the Russians/Germans or whoever speak English with an appropriate accent. It would make for an interesting CMBB experience. What do you think?" I think that would be "cheesy," as we say in the United States. "Tacky" is another word for it. But knock yourself out -- to each his own, and whatever enhances your CM experience is fine by me. Since mods only appear on your machine, opponents who would cringe at this sort of thing would be spared the discomfort. No, I don't speak German or Russian, but I for one enjoy the atmosphere those languages add to the game. But's that just me ...
  6. "5th Tank Army vs 24th Panzer" The map, selection of forces and victory conditions display a keen understanding of how to use the CMBB system to create an intense and very playable scenario. Highly recommended. http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/scenario_details.html?command=search&db=scenarios.db&eqskudatarq=1081
  7. "Broken Citadel" is a war movie about the Kursk operation made with Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin that exists in theory only and therefore only in the form a series of hypothetical trailers. The reality is that is it impossible to make a "real" feature-length movie/machinima using Combat Mission, given the restraints of the engine (the inability to create fully realized human characters being the primary obstacle). Nevertheless, the engine is strong enough to support the creation of the fictional trailers and, in the case of "Roads to Moscow," a music video. In fact, both projects were inspired by a challenge to create some sort of entertaining machinima using Combat Mission.
  8. Almost forgot this one, another "Broken Citadel" trailer. Note the rather novel use of the in-game birdsong and wind ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrC1jPv1jG4
  9. "Broken Citadel" series of trailers Note the extensive use of mods and absolute lack of neo-Nazi-flavored heavy-metal music. Broken Citadel Trailer No.1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMkpZiTsLqY&mode=related&search= Broken Citadel Trailer No. 3 (The Germans) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfazcyhwzuM&mode=user&search= Broken Citadel Trailer No. 4 (The Russians) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKBA9XldYgo&mode=user&search= Broken Citadel Final Trailer (The Battle of Kursk) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTXkWPy2RAo&mode=user&search=
  10. Renaud: I count Trappenjagd also among the sort of thing I am looking for. I played that one as the Russians about two weeks ago, quite enjoyable, thank you for taking the time to make it. The airpower, while locally devasating, did not sway the overall results of the battle. It added a interesting and unpredictable element to the fight. Nice job on that one!
  11. Hi MR: Yes, I hear you. I should have been more specific on the low end. I have been using points as a rough guage, as scenario descriptions do not tell you how many units are involved per se and use the point system instead. Since placing my original post, I've played some scenarios with 4,000 points that work just fine. So you can say I''m still working out how to describe what I'm looking for. I have found many excellent examples at the Proving Grounds ("5th Tank Army vs 24th Panzer"), Scenario Depot ("No Withdrawal"), Boots and Tracks ("Izyum Diet Plan"), and Abbott's Combat Mission Page ("State Farm 79"). With these new caveats, which HSG battles would you recommend for a dynamic H2H that isn't a quick firefight nor a 6-hour affair? Three hours is about what I can typically spare for a match. Although, again, that is another subjective parameter, as speed of play for any given situation is difficult to predict. The other thing I find happening is that I become more experienced, I find I can manage increasingly larger forces in the same time frame. With all that said, I''ll take any specific scenario recommendation you have and give a whirl, as they say. Thank you for any help.
  12. Hello Mad R: I have not tried the HSG MEs via TCP/IP, as they do not fit the parameters I am looking for. They are either too small or too large for my needs -- I am looking for something that can be wrapped up in 3-4 hours of online play, a narrow window indeed. However, I have tried some of your work against the AI and have found it well-crafted. So thank you for providing those. I will certainly keep an eye out for your future submissions.

  14. No offense taken. Your point is well taken; however, ME scenarios can be designed in such a way as to avoid the flag rush. This one http://www.the-scenario-depot.com/scenario_details.html?command=search&db=scenarios.db&eqskudatarq=773 is a good example. A flag rush would be suicidal here. Another technique is to place two small victory flags, one on each side, far from the middle so each side starts with the same amount of voctory points and has no chance of capturing the opposing flag. And then the only way to score points is to destroy enemy forces, not capture a flag in the middle of the board. At that point, terrain objectives become subservient to destroying the enemy, not the other way around.
  15. Gentlemen: Thank you for the replies. Let me clarify my question. I have used up everything I can in The Proving Grounds (including JasonC's scenarios -- as an aside, thank you for those), The Scenario Depot and Boots 'n' Tracks. My question is this: Are there any other sites where one can obtain more scenarios? Thank you.
