  1. "You have no idea how far off this is. Spend some time in the tech support forums to get an idea of the actual problem.

Updating drivers isn't rocket science. People have done it. CM:SF runs horribly on a lot of systems with updated drivers - and, actually, people have

had better performance when installing specific, older drivers.

Battlefront SHOULD feel obligated to look into these issues because they released a BETA product that doesn't even support the majority of modern hardware on the market." Posts: 115 | Registered: Apr 2005 | IP: Logged

I'm far off. No you are. My point is I have what most here have which is same basically the same system and OS he does and I'm not having any problems. What does that tell you but that my computer is setup properly and maintained and maybe his isn't or for that matter anyone else here who has the same setup.

Also consider what you have on your hard drive as far as crappy or conflicting programs, corrupt files etc-by the way I have a program for just about anything but I am choosy about what goes on my hard drive and how its installed and when it runs same with hardware-I don't own no dell! I hand pick my hardware read about it, test it and make sure its all going to all work well together.

I know a lot of programmers who are quite good at what they do but either don't know much about the hardware and how to keep a computer running well or they are just too lazy to bother to go through the trouble of fixing it so it will run well. Programmers are not the be all and end all of computer technology. Also, I see alot of people these days in forums who like to proudly announce themselves "Programmers" "Well, I'm a programmer and I know this shouldn't happen."

This is what I read all the time is what I read all the time. I learned how to program in a few languages years ago maybe I'm a programmer too: "make way there's a PROGRAMMER in the house!" lol

Sometimes you need to just get your head out of the code you're writing in and the individual program functions and statements that your writing and look at the actual computer and learn about how it works with its OS and all its components and software and drivers and believe me it can be just as challenging and interesting if you want to learn something other that code or you can just leave it up to someone who knows more about computers.

    Good luck friend

    Maybe someone here can help.

  2. I don't understand all these system problems everyone complains about. I'm sorry I know its very frustrating, but every time I get a new game people in the forums are all screaming how buggy the game is because it keeps crashing on them, and the the developers need to focus on a patch for their system hardware setups.

Really, I don't think most people know how to configure and maintain and update their computers properly.

I'm not going to get into to many specifics but, I have a 8800, a multcore processor, a quad core intel, the EVGA i680 motherboard which everyone at the evga forum seemed to be having so many major problems with. I'm using the 1.62.18 forceware drivers and using XP with service pack 2, I have an old soundblaster sound card.

And have been running the game everything on highest since the release with absolutely no crashes, no lockups, no black screens and smooth performance with no slowed down animations-though the camera is consistantly a bit slow moving when it across the map: not snagging, just moving slow-which is probably th just the design of the engine.

I did had to do only one thing -and that's as expected- update my drivers before it ran smoothly.

I'm willing to bet I can get it to run fine on

someone elses system-say an AMD or whatever- with different specs-well in the case of ATI I may have to wait for new drivers or disable a feature in the control panel but it will run fine. I can tell you how many different builds I've had even in the past couple of years where everyone is complaining about crashes on the same system as I had and demanding a patch and how much they know about their computers, how the programmers couldn't code right and all the other games they ran work fine.

What bothers me is that Battlefront is going to feel obligated to spend all their time and effort on patch after patch that deals with only say 8800 technical problems and dual core processor problems when what we really need for the game is good quick battle tacAI and a better control interface, pathfinding and other things that effect the actual game.

I have a dual boot system so one of my operating systems is visa 64bit, I didn't even bother with installing the game on it-what with all the game and utility, incompatibilities many just won't run-developers don't seem to want to support this OS its missing something that the old 32bits had. Though if I had a 32bit I wouldn't hesitate.

I can't remember if they said this game was 64bit compatible I if so I may give it a try on that drive as well.

  3. Pink Floyd, yeah. "Dark side of the moon" I know its probably their most over played album-on the top 20 hit list for at least a couple decades and I've been listening to it since I was a little boy-like when I was 11, probably thats when I got the album- and I could still listen to it and enjoy the entire album along with "Wish you were here", Medal, Animals, its all good that old Floyd stuff.

  4. I just want better tactical AI. That is paramount without it you don't have much of a game, control issues for RT one can get used to or adapt to-though I'm not saying this isn't important either, one needs to be able to execute orders in a timely manner as well as be able to focus on ones tactics and not be distracted by an overly complex control scheme.

Although, unfortunately it seems as of late no cares anymore about AI and single player games anyway they want person to person. I'm sorry but to have to rely on another person being available at a given time and not playing like a punk-quiting early doing foolish things during the game to mess it up doesn't appeal to me. Also the person you are playing with may not have the time for a good long involved game. And what's the fun in it anyway: ok, I won on to the next battle with some other "dude".

Most of these multiplayer games wind up being short, simple and boring. Now with RT in the game there is going to be a lot of this even in this game, such as who gets there the quickest-who can hit the controls the fastest-with their javelin or

rocket launcher or pickup truck full of explosives to wipe out a whole platoon and use the best sound bite strategies.

Though I have to admit that realistically winning a battle depends more often than not on who strikes first and who makes the quickest effective moves in as short a time frame as possible. I still prefer the "what if" longer complex tactics and strategies one can afford to use in turnbased single player games. It gives you the time to concider and learn something through your own experiments that will be more than a simple rush attack that is necessary to win in RT mulitplayer.

we were told to play the scenario battles but are the AI tactics really any better in those games? I haven't noticed. I thought that's what these wargames where all about, tactics.

  5. I haven't played much of the game to be honest due to the heat and humidity where I am, but from what I can see your right they're just not even trying to defend them selves at all.

Friday it was late and I had only 15 minutes to try it out. We where shooting at the enemy from the stryker who was lying on the flat ground out in the open as we shot at them from maybe 50 yards or so and all they did was shoot back with semi automatic rifles, they didn't even get up to find cover or dig in and one by one they died, not even the last few panicked, there was no heroism or "stay your ground and face the enemy right to the end" it was just total lack of awareness in the AI. It was amazing that no one called for an RPG or even ran to where there was heavy artillery-the base was not far from where they were.

This was a quick battle but even so how much better will scenarios be in regards to tactics.

Personally I don't give a hoot about multiplayer

I am not a people person and don't have the patients for it-scheduling an agreeable date and time, setting up an agreed game type, playing at an agreeable style and pace. That's why I like video games to get away from people. Yeah, "take your ball and go home". Too many "gamers" just spend all their time finding short cuts and ways to exploit the game so they can win a quick battle. And that's often all it is with another person quick, simple and boring.

I haven't really played enough but I just hope some part of the game will provide a nice challenge with the AI. That's the reason I bought it to get away from everyone, sit back and take my time trying different tactics and strategies against a well thoughtout AI.

And it does exist, there are indeed games where the AI is definitely better than humans players: civilization, Gallactic civilization II (no, gay multiplayer in this game), and perhaps even Close Combat COI to name a few.

  6. This is all fine and dandy and congratulations to SIReal!

This guy gets the game illegally we're all anxious to have and still have over a week to see and play and he gets support.

As far as I'm concerned this lucky guy -nothing personal Sireal- has brought my level of eagerness and anticipation of this game down to about 20% of what it was before I read this news. He has not only opened the magic box and let out all the magic of our wonderings but without saying a word about it has contaminated it-with his mediocrity and unworthy-stumbling-upon(like a bum who has found a invitation to that hot princesses ball on the ground :D ) and of course just plan old schumuckness (nothing personal ;) ) and above all his individuality. And, the kicker is that he gets support. We ordered from them the developers out of loyalty and to support them, he orders from evil paradox the money grubbing publisher-which I guess is alright too ;) and he gets the game and the support from of course those who created it, who put there heart and soul into it and need all the support they can get.

We will be getting a second hand game next week.

There is no excuse if the game-only needs a 1.01 patch which is already in the works as is always the case with every game that comes out now-there is really no excuse not to, if the game is this ready, not to get those servers going and let us have our copies in no less time than a few days.

But we can all joke about it and suck it up I guess until next Friday.

  7. what! I wasn't expecting an announcement this soon and when you said there will be an annoucement soon I thought it'd be in a couple months.

July 27! no really and I though if we were lucky we'd see it released spring of next year or at the earliest late fall of this year.

Man this is a surprise and an official release date to boot. Is it safe to... oh, what the heck WAH-HOO!!

    :D:D:D

I didn't think we'd ever see an official explicit release date let alone and implied release date.

  8. Molo, and who ever else this may apply to, why isn't moons point sinking in?

You don't complain over and over again and talk $hit about the game in every post. It simply ruins the forum. They were saying nothing constructive and if they didn't like the game and thought it was a total failure and utterly hopeless as they indicated more than a few times, then they shouldn't be here to ruin it for others. Why would those who are enjoying the game and have constructive suggestions in hope that a few patches may make it better want to come here and read the oppinions of these A$$hole$ :D

If you feel riped off and feel those who like it are fools then express your personal oppinion directly once or twice and leave. This is not your place if-you keep getting your butt handed to you in every battle :D - if you feel that the game is a hopeless fiasco. Move on.

Most of what they had to say was pure negative flaming anyways.

As for billyboob if you think you're such a bad ass, fat boy, with your highschool threats come visit me in Connectcut. After reading what kind of punk you are I'd love to realign your jaw or remove a few of your teeth someone with as big a mouth as yours needs it. And trust me I am more than up to it.

  9. What is it with you boys, (very young guys) Kroll, Chazman? I can just picture you either of you ("dude this and dude" "RTS")

Besides the fact that you get on my nerves I'm mean its like high school or first year college -True I probably shouldn't even be here reading your punk posts. But what do you want anyway? Your money back and then you'll not come here to complain about a flawed game you don't like. Well as we all know those things don't happen no store or game/software developer ever gives a refund and besides you'd still want to come here and post in every message that comes up.

I am not a fanboy of this game for sure but you don't see me crying about it all the time- waste of energy. I had even said before it was released that the game was still going to have a lot of bugs and things that we just wouldn't find acceptable and no matter how long they continued to worked on it.

You can either like it for what it is or just move on and accept your loss. Complaining and trying to be "the outsider" is going to do nothing.

If you have any real balls and wanted to stand out and speak your own mind and fight the fools and suckers of the gaming world why don't you just go to the company of heros forum and complain about how unrealistic and ridiculous that game is there is an overwhelming majority who will assure everyone there, at that forum, that you know nothing about realism and tactics or what makes a good world war II video game;or how about gears of war where everyone will tell you the AI is the best-even though they don't have to do a thing but shoot down an alley. Games like these you can't say anything bad about, no one will listen.

Dam man! That's always the way it is you go to one specific game site and they are all complaining saying how this game needs this and that and that it sucks, then they will compare it to another, which is SO much better and the way the game at that forum should be.

Funny thing is you go to that great games site only to find out why everyone thinks its so bad.

  11. I remember playing a CC game about 7 years ago.

Couldn't stand the eye-sore ugly maps.

Just a few weeks ago though with all the talk about Iron cross. I decided to download CC3.

How on earth do you tolerate that camera that jumps all over the map with the slightest touch of your mouse or arrow keys and how are you even able to recognize anything its all a bunch of dots? Very primitive looking. Looks more like a blue print design or rough draft for a WWII game. Doesn't even look good as a map :D

I was about to ambush a tank with my medium tank: just when I had gotten around the corner and was about to issue an order to fire-which I really should have to of- I was suddenly out in the middle of nowhere and by the time I found my tank which was all setup by me to destroy the German tank-side flank- it had been totally destroyed.

Seems AI needs a lot of attention in this game can't think very well on its own.

Also I found myself running all over the map trying to babysit each of my units as they all would end up helplessly with their butts in a sling in no time. Why no turn based system when you have to go all over the map with that wacky camera. No the mini map doesn't help much either it has even less detail than the battlefield map.

But everyone here seems to think its the ultimate wargame.

  12. Swissdragon, Just because you carried a gun around and feel "qualified" ;) doesn't mean you know all about commanding world war II units nor do you know the proper values and behavior of each weapon, vehicle and unit type used back then. And I'd trust the developers here at BF to have a better idea of all that; their previous games seem to attest to this.

He was not refering to me when speaking of using psychology. Read the messages regarding weather enemy AI cheats.

  13. You mention that the "crew is stupid" and a bunch of other important things which you think are lacking in this game and right in the end say its a nice game besides??

I don't know I haven't had a chance to play it enough but sounds like some people need to learn how to play it a little better and understand how it all works in regards to control interface options and line of sight-and we are all experts its seems on rang and realism. give me a break only a few have any idea what resembles real firing ranges and armer and damage for each of these weapons. Having a lot of knowledge about the artillery of world war II by reading about it and researching is one thing and somewhat admirable in itself- if of course you have good sources and aren't simple talking out you butt; But some of you come off as if you were there during world war II to design all equipment and armer that was used for every country that was fighting.

So we feel we can pick at ever detail and know for sure we are percisely correct.

  14. I don't think they emailed everyone like they said they were going to, for whatever reason.

I saw some messages about the game in this forum and went for the download from the receipt I was emailed about a month ago.

I just installed it and loaded the main menu.I'll have more time to check it out tomorrow after work.

I'm not to worried about how it will run. With a quadcore and 8800GTX and 2gigs of ram I've never had any problems with low frames. I'll run everything as high as it will go and at 1920 x 1200 as I do with all games. And yes the extra cores DO make a difference believe me! :D
