  3. Hello again, all! I was recently reading the book "Panzer Tactics" by Wolfgang Schneider, wherein the idea of the tactical use of Panzer Grenadiere is expounded apon. From reading it i got the sense that mounted panzer grenadiere were used tactically at a ratio of about 1 company PzGd per battalion of tanks. I know that this company was switched around, as there were not that many companies of PzGd per panzer division. the book says that the infantry were to fight mounted for as long as possible. when they had to dismount, two of the three machine guns were removed from the halftrack (the ones attached to the squad) and carried on dismounted combat. this leads me to believe that they were used in a tactic sense at least part of the time. but i've heard in the forums here that they are only useful at the operational level, or even simply as lorries in the strategical sense. sooo basically i want to know if someone could describe how the panzer grenadiere were used tactically, like how would an average panzer attack work, with maybe a battalion of tanks and a company of PzGd, or less or whatnot? Or am i wrong, and they were simply used at the operational/ strategical level? and lastly, does the CM engine portray mounted firing? i don't think it does, but i could be wrong. and are there any other problems with CM in demonstrating this kind of combat (such as the price being to high or something?) thanks for all replies. ~Schwabian
  4. AndrewTF's mods at cmmods.com are amazing. they can't change the model (hard-coded) but they make the uniform MUCH more detailed.
  5. for me i get those turquoise pixels in all the tree bases at any elevation in the desert terrain... could if be generally the same problem?
  6. here i'm having a lot of trouble posting a picture but i garuntee you it doesn't have to do with the memory. i'm running a computer with a gig of RAM and a geforce fx 5600 pro...

  8. i really like the worn look. i actually have tried looking for a good well weathered set of vehicles, but the closest i could find was aristoteles, and those look more depressed than worn i really like that way this one looks though. good job! ~Schwabian

  10. i remember reading this topic somewhere. i think the finishing arguement that settled the entire bounce-off-road-into-bottom argument was this: how is a bullet supposed to not have enough force to penetrate concrete but then somehow penetrate steel? but i believe in that video the pilot said that tanks would sometimes carry fuel tanks behind them (as was said) and that the pilots would also aim for those. ~Schwabian
  11. ummmm i downloaded your new open terrain mod, and the arid terrain mod, and they are both the exact same (they are both mods for the arid terrain)...
  12. The M7's indirect fire mode is simulated through the 105mm Arty Spotter. When they are on the battlefield, they are representing a priest that somehow became involved in the battle. Close support/direct fire?
  13. guns present a very small target, and are very hard to spot/ VERY easily hidable. can't kill what you can't see...
  14. 1) i'm pretty sure you can't... 2) well you can't choose exactly what type of ammunition the tank will use, but for smoke you can use the "smoke" command. 3) i remember somet theories from a while ago including things along the lines of setting rotate commands for most of the turn to eat up time so that the tank can only fire a couple rounds. but other than that i don't think it's possibly to limit the ammo used in a turn. 4) in the information screen? it says blast radius=#. is that what you're looking for? hope this helps
  15. thank you all! does the engine also take into account the small differences? Like would be easier to penetrate the sherman front from a higher vantage point (since the angle the shell strikes the plate is closer to 90 degrees than from level ground)?
  16. wow. that cm engine is incredible. wait i think it may track the ballistics thing. it says in the manual it tracks gravity (it uses the round after it misses the target and falls to earth as an example).
  17. hey i was wondering does anyone know if elevation has any effect on the penetration in a tank battle? You would think it would maybe effect the angle, but does it? and what kinds of things in relation to tanks does the CM engine happen to not factor in? ~Schwabian
  18. "Have you maybe modded the start-up screens already?" yes i have the dark steel mod and then another couple... "Is this something that just started happening, or has it never worked? Did you download Pbem Helper recently or try to download it again?" it has been like this since i downloaded it. i downloaded it once like 6 months ago, but this and a couple other things made me stop. then again about 2 weeks ago i re-downloaded it. "These symptoms (especially the first) indicate to me that a mouse click is made in the 'wrong' location." ya that would seem like it. it does the same sort of thing in terms of wait, the clicked button icon, etc. that it does when the mouse is clicked on the buttons
  19. i know this isn't in the right section, but i wasn't truly sure of where to put it... uhhh so my problem is that when i press "play" on PBEM helper it will go to the list of scenarios instead of multiplayer. and after i save the file, it goes to the scenario editor. i have the downloaded version of CMAK/CMBB, could that have anything to do with it? thank you all for any help ~Schwabian
  20. i still play a bit. i play by pbem only (haven't tried tcip... is it any good?) and at the i play pretty leisurly (2-3 turns week avg -- i'm a junior in high school so time and i don't exactly agree) but if you happen to have that much patience, i'm all for a good game.   21. I was playing a QB the other day, trying to learn about the sturmtiger (proving to myself that it truly COULD take out entire blocks in one shot :eek: ). I decided to test it out against a B-64. You would think that the devastation of the sturmtiger would leave nothing left, but, alas, the missile somehow manages to explode above the b-64 and only the gunner is killed, whereas a building 5m away is totalled. is there an explanation for this or is this just one of those crazy little flaws that come with an amazing game? ~Schwabian
