No that was not a huge naval battle, My turn was a HUGE naval battle. . 2 jap flattops sunk and about 6 BB including Yamato and Musashi I think. that's half the IJN gone. Question is where is the other half? other stuff too but that the main deal. Rambo will have to count the casualties in his reply but bottom line is my Aussie / dutch force was bait andI had 5 subs just outside his bomber spotting range that softened him up then the rest of the USN took a dump on him. how hard can he counter?

Turkey fall, benelux liberated (again). Burma liberated cutting off his troops to the north. First major jap loss to the Russians as T34 advances. 2 u boats die , one in north sea thhe other in the med. Americans and australians take inner marshalls, saipan , truk and other m one to the north. all except Iwo Jima which has a jap bomber and corp inspected by a BB and Cruiser. Probably China's last turn but I have been saying that for a while... Rmabo took Smolensk, Inf and tanks ping the German SF in it but no serious push out yet. German tanks attack odessa and hold istanbul. Italian B sank

Pretty much along the border with soviets advanced a little from the north east and Japanese pushing to the north west. doesn't look like either side can break through anytime soon. British sink a u boat in the north sea. Land another corp in Holland to hold the port with the Canadian Tank on the other side and Nazi held corp in Bruxelles Germans pull back in the North but are well positioned for an assault on Smolensk. Probing Odessa too. US finally does something as I take the fort in the marshall islands. A long way to tokyo

Turkey holds on down to 2, Yugo doesn't surrender so it's brave troops try and mess up his lines. He has 3 panzers in south east europe now heading towards Istanbul ( or is it constantinopol?) but I have 2 T34 plus british corp and Tac bombers approaching from east. and Syria. Ankara down to 2 this turn, it must fall next turn. As must Dutch east indies but every turn is a lot of oil denied. It's madness in Manchuria. 3 armies attack from Blogowhatit to try and cut of Tshibar. we'll take it next turn unless he pulls back. I have a lone corp in North Korea who took a pasting last turn but survives and is back to 10 again. Japanese boys up north are tough as bamboo , all vets with 2 or 3 bars and inf wp 2 vs my inf 1. nevertheless in the words of Mr Stalin " quantity has a quality all of it's own" . At least a dozen land units guarding Russia in East plus 2 HQs and some fighters and one tank are looking like they are too much for the Japs to crush. There is no German activity in south russia so Russians advance to Warsaw where a corp pings a bomber. To the north his breakthrough is contained for now but h e has some veyr tough boys there. German corps crushed and 4 new armies appear to block his path. Yes I have a LOT of russians. Actually I am maxed out on Land units All that middle east oil and no major cities lost helps China will hold for maybe one more turn. can she make 1943? I doubt it. Something brewing in the north sea. Canadian tanks land and ping some rentanazi psuedo axis eurotrash down to a 2. His luftwaffe are tough but the pain is getting a little less with each turn. need more yankee planes in Europe. India we may lose some units but I have so many reinforeced from Africa now too he'll never break through

Stalin's Organist, First time I have read this page. I just wanted to say a huge thank you for posting the link to the report of the type 3 japanese fuse. To properly understand how much I enjoyed it I have to tell you a bit about myself. I'm a Physicist / Optoelectronic specialist who works for an optics company in the US designing Laser and detectors. I also spent 3 years in japan and studied at Kyoto University. That and being a bit of a WW2 buff and my dad worked on missile and torpedo guidance system for the Royal Navy in the 70s. All in all that makes that one report about the single most perfect document I have ever seen, assuming it is real. It is a similar principle to many Laser guided weapons used now but to make it with just a lamp, lens and simple photocell is extraordinary. Completely possible I might add just extraordinary. The circuits look real and plausible to me. I'm almost tempted to make one myself just to see if it would work (just the lamp/detector part mind you not the 500Kg part) . The problem would be getting the parts, vacuum amplifiers and those crude photocells just aren't made any more, I'd have to use off the shelf modern components and try and derate them to simulate the lower current generated which would kind of spoil the point of the exercise. Which brings me to a simple point about believing UFO/ super soldier/ Nazi Yeti / Crazy WW2 tech /flying saucers stories. I am much more inclined to believe that 70 years ago certain technologies could have been developed which were then perfected many years later. Eg Japanese optical proximity switch , German phosphorous nightvision, Air to Air missiles etc These would have been very crude and need another 10 to 20 years to become effective such as the V2 would be eventually. But I just can't believe any attempt where some technology then was generations ahead of anything we have now eg flying discs , super soldier drugs or sprays that stop engines instantly. Someone would have developed them further during the cold war. If we don't see it today then sorry folks it simply is science fiction in 1944. thank you again

This is absolutely Global. Replays are taking so long I can drink most of a beer during one. Allies may not win the war but they will win the 1944 world cup as Brazil are now on board. We march to a samba beat. Mongolia surrenders. Rambo is making some good strategic moves with the Japs. He has basically used most of his "free" units that are designed for island hopping scripts to form two attack groups to go after Russia. One through Mongolia and one across the border at Chita(??) new places names for me , don't know them off by heart. However Soviet forces are pretty substantial now in July 42 and we have only lost riga and minsk in the west. One T34 counters the lead Japanese unit, few points of damage, we'll see next turn. Again Rambo is very disciplined about building up experience units. It's quantity vs quality in russia and it will take time for my troops to build up exp. 2 units of Soviet Special forces advance out of blagowhatsit to cut off his forces to the north. He has only a corp attack vladivostock and I have 2 paras there. Time is not on the Japanese side though. He's not going to make much progress against such large soviet forces although it is taking pressure off the Germans as I send my reserves to Siberia not to attack the Hun in the west. Fritz is now readvancing towards odessa with some new tanks, still level 2. I let him for now. Few tac bombers and intercepts but it is mostly still a phoney war in the Ukraine with both sides wary of the others counter attack. The Japanese still have their 3 veterans tanks pinging steadily at China's last capital and are bogged down in Burma. The IJN vanishes from Indian shores , will it head west to Sri Lanka or back to Singapore? He doesn't seem to control too many islands but I can't rush the Americans in as the IJN could be lurking around the next atoll and wipe me out before I get started, Has to be a slow and steady island hop. Other minor stuff , Brussels just still holds but I have only 1 corp there and it should fall any day. He's back to fort building in the europe. I still hold Bergen. Turkish ship in Dardanelles gets hit by russian corp (new feature for 1.02 -land attack on sea/land square) , russian ships and finally HMS Malaya from the med side. she sinks. My super T34 that has conquered Persia, Iraq and Syria (let Brits take it though as needed the port for them) now crosses into turkey and attacks with air support from Ark Royal. Axis can't reinforce with tough germans as they don't have yugo and soviet corps landed on west side of Dardanelles to buy more time. Will take a few turns with the mountains there but Turkey looks in trouble. I like typing Dardanelles , it makes me think of Winston. Anyway, Good to see UFC#3 started. Immense fun as this AAR is, the whole point to show new players what can be done in this game and to showcase it to a wider audience. Russian tank and Brit corp despatch Syria / Palestian and head north into Turkey with Ark Royal providing air support (Probably stop off in Jaffa some great restaurants down on allenby street in the old town) US TAC bombs some random east european rent a nazis outside Brussels ( great place for seafood Brussels) US destroyer bumps in U boat off west coast of North africa. UK reinforce Brussels and Bergen. Germans have pulled out of southern Russia and Ivan is advancing. China / Burma / Indonesia etc some other minor fighting. Oh Chinese partisan are popping up all over the place. Rambo doesn't seem to care

Where will Winston strike next? 2 Legend panzer is tough but takes a beating from Russian tac air and a suicidal T34. T34 down to Str 1 , 2nd legend down to a 4 - lots of dead veteran panzer uberlietenants. In the south he spots another pair of T34s and pulls back , but his SF are left south of Kiev and get hit by Russian artillery ,my Army in Kiev and finally finished off by another tank for next to no damage to USSR. He invaded Mongolia and is positioning to invade Soviet Union. Dangerous with China still in play and his main tanks and vets far west or in Burma. Phillipines still hold. play it again sam, British take Algeria. Turkey prepares for war. Soviet Army advances into Romania and Amphib Corp lands outside sofia to block train lines to Turkey His subs are massing around the Rock and finally sank my cruiser who has spent the last year shelling it to keep the door open. Too little too late with Casablanca in allied control.

yep I do love commandos and keeping the British Mobile. we've got the germans engaged in Norway, pulled them into Spain and back and now taken Benelux. That's right - liberation in 42. Can you feel me now? Rambo surrounded my first corps in Essen so he couldn't escape and wreck siegfried line etc but brussels temporarily empty as othe corps stuck in spain with low supply to operate back I guess. 2nd corp in amphib already and take the city. rest of british army uses the port. Germany looks a little stretched

That's right folks he can spin it how he likes but the Wehrmacht definetly went west not east and he only has Riga. My tanks that finished off the 1st legend(ish) panzers are not counter attacked and pull back to get patched up while the crews are given extra vodka and ukrainian farmgirls. Let your balarakas ring out. In other news - Tunisia falls and so does ESSEN. That's right , we own German property. British corp lands on coast, gets badly shot up by a Swedish cruiser in Kiel but marches on Essen. He doesn't Pearl Harbour so full USA BB fleet being retooled up... China doomed and thanks to his bombing my mines completely skint as well. On a plus note less for him to plunder

Based on the map on the front of TIME he was clearly in a position to hold off taking chungking and take lanchow first thus eliminating any escape for the chinese and total japanese victory in summer 41. He choose not to which means he is either a fool, not really playing to win, or comtemptuous of his opposition. The first and latter I doubt.

Uncle Joe can't believe his luck. He decides to liberate the Persians from the Tyranny of self rule. Hv tank lv 2 attacks Tehran wiping out defender. China has a problem. Basically despite my frankly excellent defensive play I am left to conclude there is one fundamental problem : Too much legend. China will hold a few more turns but fall in spring or early summer. Med is a bit cagey, RN pings one of the U boats buy holds back. we will revenge the Rodney soon enough. Tripoli pounded by Mathildas, Canadian corp lands north of madrid, cuts the rails and threaten the u boat pens on the north coast of Spain.

Swap on the high seas, Understrength Cumberland is sunk by 2 new lv2 subs coming out of Brest but the last german cruiser Gnuiseau is pounded by Duke of York and then blown out of the water by the Prince of Wales. Axis fleet in Med hiding in port which is fine. British troops approach Tripoli Bergen nothing. China retreats into her forts to hopefully survive Winter. It will be all over in Spring 42 but at least ensures the Japs are too busy to open an early second front on Russia so overall I'm pleased with China considering the vast resources Rambo pouring in. Turns ends and I can see snow in the Soviet Union. I can only assume Rambo is thinking that Japanese morale bump from rampaging countries plus lack of soviet winter will make the germans uber powerful come the spring. Still a bold move not to invade russia until 42.

Ok time to throw it all at the last tail enders of the Kriegmarine and declare this innings over. He'll get a a few runs with such loose bowling but I'll have him all out before Tea. RN should finnaly lose some ships but numbers are now massively in my favour. Axis navy clustered around Malta, that I know of there are 3 subs , 2 Crusiers, 1 destroyer and a BB somewhere. RN BB in malta has been hit buy multiple subs but still floats. From the east the RN cruisers and a BB attack and sink the DD right out freash from it's african tour. . Ark royal stays back along with another BB for the counter. From the west the RN blasts the german defenders in Gibraltor a and sends over 10 units past the rock the med. Think Guns of Navarone. DAvid Niven would certainly have been involved if I were make a film of this. Axis navy is trapped. it will be get messy as there is air cover from Libya for RAF and from TAC and LFT fighters in Sicily September and still no barborossa. In my experience leaving it late rarely works but it is easier in GC than in SC2 or WaW. The world holds it breath. China is being hammered by his tanks. Blue line holding to north but his tanks are rotating around lanchow and will reduce it to rubble soon enough US oil embargo starts.

Rambo has decided to consolidate his naval forces in the med. A couple of kraut subs turn up and the Italian destroyer which has been round the whole of Africa and back in through gibraltor. I land a corp on coast by bordeaux to stop him operating any tanks and hq out of spain, may have been too late but any delay in gettin them to Russia is useful August 1941. he must barby soon Aussis Navy and USAF in Pacific spot a few carriers moving east

Aussies go back to "neutral" waters just to stop Rambo whining. he still keeps pinging Foochow for experiene though. Tirpitz is caught by UK ships lurking in Bay of biscay. bismarck, cruisers, tirpitz and strasbourg all cheap wickets that couldn't hold out against the RN's pace bowling. just a few tail enders left to the innnings although could take a while to get these boys out. Ark Royal flies over Greece to attack albanian port but nothing there. Britishh advance west into Libya. China all is calm but only as he is upgrading his 3 tanks to level 2. going to be another tough summer for the chinese. Rambo has brought a Gerry HQ up to Norwat to match my British one there. Oslo can't hold for much longer but UK reinforce Bergen further. All quiet on the eastern Front. June 1941

Uboat at kiel just survives as the RN pull out of the north sea triumphant and without serious loss. weather was a blessing. Tobruk falls. Gibraltor will soon though. May 1941... will he Barby soon with tanks in Spain and planes in Denmark? soviets still down aroudn 30% so he is in no hurry

@Rambo - His Royal Majesty's Australian navy is merely patrolling international waters off the coast of the phillipines. One thing they report is that despite the Emperor's strange policy of allowing partisan to keep popping up in foochow for target practice of his carriers, the carriers seem a little worse for wear. Ho Ho Ho. I am enjoying Norway. So I will lose it come Spring but it has been a fantastic air base for bombers to spot things, especially the once mighty Kriegsmarine which is now just a James Cameroon 3D diving wreck film waiting to happen. UK bomber spots Nazi BB north of Denmark. It can only be one ship. Sir Winston gives his Famous order - Sink the Bismarck. Sir Minty adds - at whatever the cost. Bomber moves closer for a look ( may get hurt next turn but this is big news) and spots a German cruiser next to it. It may be a trap but this bait is too good not to take. This is a job for my 3 carriers but he has lots of air in denmark. 1 UK crusier moves to block danish straight to limit any u boats coming out next turn. same in channel with destroyers. With North sea relativley secure the 1st carrier comes out in full fighter mode to deal with the escorts, pulls them off by attacking german bomber in Jutland. 2nd carrier hugs coast of NOrway to limit exposure to any subs next turn and has 2 full attack with naval on bismarck with no aircover. swordfish do their job and Hitler's pride is at the bottom of the sea. No time to slack as I want that cruiser too. British have plenty of BB so my nearest BB based out of Kent, the Duke of York slams into the cruiser that turns out to be the Scharnhornst which is badly dented by her 14 inch guns. HMS Duke of York also serves as final cork in the north sea and will be an expensive but ultimately disposable sub screen if Rambo sends uboats out next turn after my carriers. finally last carrier comes out and smacks the scharnhorst down in one. It's all over. I get a little cocky and have a pop at the bomber again with my last carrier attack and meet some fighters based out of Holland. got to be in it to win it. I will take damage from luftwaffe and maybe he can squeze some subs or swedish ships to damage or even sink a carrier in return. but it will be worth it, the kriegsmarine surface fleet is a spent force now and even if the RN loses 3 or 4 ships next turn I won;t have to worrry about his ships just his subs. In china we retreat to the Alamo. my engineer has made 2 fortresses at lanchow, we will lose some men in the retreat. Chungking will fall soon and Sian wiill be surrounded soon. yugo gets upset about nazis everywhere and jump to 80 something percent. so do the greeks who go up to 50 ish and the yanks are concerned about panzers next to gibraltor . The brits are even more concerned but Stalin is quite pleased as it is april 1941 and better that panzers are in the costa del sol than eastern prussia. Australian cruiser that is imaginatively named HMAS Australia pops up off Taiwan just to annoy the Japs and get a good look at their carriers. she will be shadowing them for a while...

David 12345 advice sounds pretty solid. mine would be.. 1) No , not against a half decent player anyway 2) No, you may not get any IT hits for a while and every MPP is so precious to the cash strapped Soviets. 3) inf weapons or IT. against a decent player you'll struggle to invest the cash anyway 4) either early sub hunting/ norway invasion cover / kamikaze vs italians / shore bombard coast of belgium or France againts Panzers. 5) yes but really allies don't need the extra ships so much as stopping the nazis from potentially having 2 carriers. that can be really disruptive to any wally invasion. It all depends on what the other guy is doing. Guz is right that you do have to be responsive as allies but I wouldn't agree entirely that it is just wait for the cavalry, you can knock him off timetable with just the brits and chinese. Good luck, game a little bias still in favour of axis methinks but I hope to prove the allies can pull it off even against legendary opposition.
