  1. That is a difficult question. I myself realized I don´t use engineers very much in SC2 while I certainly did use them extensively in Clash of Steel. However, I do not exactly know why that´s so. Anyway, I guess I would like to try out garrison troops - they are certainly missing in the game. They should not be very strong, though. Just able to fend of partisans and prevent capture of (otherwise unoccupied) cities in one turn.
  2. I´m not a very rational player ... I usually invade when they begin to bore or annoy me.
  3. Quick "first impression": map shifts play out great - by cutting back to India, the mod seems much more "focussed" again! Having all of Scandinavia is a blast, too. Finally, all the little changes to Central Europe make the map feel much more realistic.
  4. Gee, I never thought you would be THAT fast with those map changes!!!! Great job!
  5. I really love this scenario and I couldn´t do without it anymore. However, since Stormbringer brought the issue up: Dave, I too was thinking that the mod somewhat lost its focus through the whole expansion to the East. Maybe it should not go beyond the Western border of India, and Japan should be left out of the game and be represented only by events. Instead I think that some (not very much, just some) more space could be used for a slight expansion of the map to the West. This would allow to have a somewhat more realistic representation of the Eastern part of South America (with Montevideo). And of course the Swiss could return then, and maybe the abstraction regarding the Baltic states could be replaced by having Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia ... Another idea (which could be considered independently, would be to have Africa represented only as far as Somalia and use Naval loops for getting around the Cape. Then the map could be expanded a bit further to the North to have ALL of Europe covered. I think all this would help to recenter the game a bit to the conflict in Europe. Plus, there would be no map abstractions anymore.
  6. Dave, that all sounds very reasonable to me (except that the Silesian mines should of course be in Silesia and "Nurmeburg" should probably be "Nuremberg"). I will give feedback on your changes once I see the next version. I think that step by step we will eventually approach something looking geographically like Central Europe.
  7. It´s very strange. Those guys obviously invested much time into their mod. I wonder what happened. Edit: Hmm, but maybe they´re students and they just went on an extended summer vacation .. [ September 08, 2006, 08:47 AM: Message edited by: Major Spinello ]
  8. Retributar: by all means, install 1.04 right away! It will not negatively affect your present game, but instead will remove the "thinking" bug of 1.03 which is responsible for those long turns.
  9. Some tiles which I noticed should switch owner: 78,19 from Switzerland to Germany (after making it a water area representing lake Bodensee). 75,14 from Germany to Netherlands
  10. I heard that the will can move mountains . 1) The mountains at 78,19 80,19 and 82,19 should all go away. Actually, the tile at 78,19 should become a water-tile to represent the Bodensee. 2) A mountain tile should be placed at 81,19 however. There´s no reason why the Alps should be broken south of Munich.
  11. Some more thoughts on German (and adjacent) geography: 1) The Ruhr coal mine located at 78,16 should go to 77, 16. 2) I don´t know what the mine in Austria at 89,20 is supposed to represent. It should be deleted in favor of the important Silesian mines. These should be located between Breslau and Crakow, maybe 91,17 or 92,17 or 92,18. (If that places them on Polish territory, this would actually not be bad cause they would represent the Upper Silesian mines in that case which went to Poland after WW1) 3) Prague is somehow very off (which you can see from its relation to Dresden). It should be placed in between the ring of mountains and therefore go to 86,18.
  12. Btw Dave: you should not need to have to convert the scenario to the patch this time.
  13. Doesn´t the scenario contain the axis AI scripts by Normal Dude?
  14. @Preusse: I do not have experience with multiplayer. However, against the AI I find it somewhat easier to win with the Allies due to the stuff you can transfer from Asia via the Red Sea to the Med. This allows taking Africa away from the Axis in 41 already. However, maybe a good Axis player can counter that, I don´t know. Playing Axis against the AI is definitely harder (at least it takes longer to win).
  15. Some explanation regarding my suggestion about city placement in Western Germany: Dusseldorf has to go simply because it occupies the spot where Essen has to be. Essen has to represent the Ruhr Area (with the mine next to it). It is most important because the Krupp clan and their factories were there. Actually I toyed with the idea to suggest renaming Frankfurt to Cologne, but it is probably better to keep Frankfurt and just move it a bit away from the Rhine to the spot where it belongs. I´m currently trying to test Honch7, however the dreaded "thinking bug" affects me as early as October 39!!!
  16. A bomber ... thanks, I confess I simply never thought of that. I always surround the buggers, do shorebombardement, use my airfleets ... and rip my hair out in bushels because they still seem to have enough supply to replace their losses while my guys doing the siege often run into supply problems.
  17. Quick question: will the coming hotfix for this problem allow us to still use old savegames and mods? Just wanna know whether it makes sense to start new games now.
  18. Taking Leningrad is a pain in the ass even if the Axis player is human. I found that using all those aircraft (and maybe shorebombarding) is not enough - your attackers should also have upgraded infantery tech and (most important) be in excellent supply. No wonder the AI is botchin´it. The thing is that it correctly decides that this is an important target, but then does not have a clue how to really get it. So given it cannot be brought to "drop the hammer" (as Scook put it so nicely) ... I think it would indeed be a good idea to just make it kinda bypass Leningrad instead.
  19. Long time no see! Anyway, it took me a while to notice that German cities, especially in Western Germany are far off. Not much can be done because the whole geography is quite contorted in that area. However, here my suggestions to get things a bit more straight: 1) Rename major city "Dusseldorf" to "Essen" 2) Move major city "Frankfurt" to 78,17 where atm a minor city "Essen" is located. Delete that one. While the Western region of Germany is cramped, the Eastern region is a bit bloated and comparatively empty. I suggest to add the following minor cities: 1) Minor city Stettin 86,14 2) Minor city Frankfurt (Oder) 86,16 (This is because the last major battle at the river Oder happened here) 3) Minor city Breslau 89,17 4) Minor city Danzig (92,13) (maybe)
  20. Just in case this wasn´t already answered: Thais join axis at december 21, 1941 thereby declaring war on the Allies. However they were invaded by Japan about two weeks before and then sort of persuaded to do this (facing the alternative to just be occupied). An existing country like Switzerland should not go off the map. I would rather combine two Vichy colonies to free a slot for China.
