  1. Oh nice! Did not have a chance to try that last night, pesky North Koreans. After previewing what I was up against, a natural reaction came over me..............RUN! Everyone run! get on the ships, lets go invade New Zealand instead. Its warmer, plenty of lamb ko babs, and no fighting with cold/wet feet. Alas duty had to spoil all those wonderful images of running up and down barefoot on warm beaches.

  2. Not a problem, the fix coming at the wee hours of the morning was more surprising, geez you guys ever sleep? :D Battlefront also reset my activations to just 1 which was awesome by the way thank you. The temporary fix is not really unusual to be honest for this day. I recall having to use the compatibility mode quite often during the transition from Windows 98 to Windows XP and most recently with Windows XP to Windows 7. It just never dawned on me to use it this time, I think its almost second nature to do just that whenever you have an issue in todays multi OS environment.

The title itself is exceptional, I just wanted to peak at the new terrain, well a few hours later................ that was one long peak. Its very nice to see the Korean Conflict done its dues finally. So very few titles have offered some insight on this particular time in history. Falklands would be a nice change as well *coff coff* *nudge nudge*. I think Ive been WWII'd out although the earlier TOW titles were exceptional in their own right. Its just nice to have something different for a change.

  3. You got the game running by "running as admin" too then Nevada?

Just read your text properly again Nevada, you have got to see the terrain then before bed :)

Thats the only thing that worked for me yes. Indeed, almost moved a few units as well. North Korean 1st Armored Brigade was about to put some hurt down on I Corps down in Pusan. Very nice indeed.

mrsoul, try this, find the games shortcut on your desktop and put the shortcut under RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR and hit APPLY. This should start you okay.

  4. Yes Martin, I used the hotfix, but while attempting to start the game it went to the same Play Now or Buy Now screen. Only after I placed the .exe to RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR was I able to get past it and into the games normal start up. A screen offering to update, then finally to start and enter the game. The hotfix file alone did not solve the problem.

  5. Oh nice, Im working, mrsoul make sure you right click the korea.exe or shortcut and choose properties, then pick the compatibility tab. You will see two places to place a check mark, then hit apply. It placed me directly into the game. Thank you Martin, that at least gets it up an running. Any chance we can recoup the lost activations? I know one is used as of now, but it would be nice to install this on my faster desktop.

    Well done thank you

    Jim

  6. Hmm okay I think to help Martin along, system specs would be in order.

    Windows 7 32 bit

    Pentium IV Dual Core 2.66

    4 gigs Ram

    Geforce 8800 1 gig VM

    Updated drivers as of 2/27/11

    DX 10.

( I should never had rebooted! I could of played it at least once, Budge44 your one up on me :D )

  7. That also crossed my mind Martin, regarding the Programs Files Folder. Ive since installed it out of the drive entirely but again Ive used up all my activations. In my defense, I had thought when re-entering it, that the server was simple busy, hence the ill informed repeated attempts which I dont advise anyone else doing :) Learn from the fish in front of you people, first few fish get eaten by the shark, I suggest not following. :)

I believe the service folks are working on my lost activations which is a great testament to the Battlefront company as a whole. Not many are up this late at night still answering trouble tickets. You were right however Martin, when I uninstalled and reinstalled to another directory, it did not ask me to reboot, not sure where that came from. In the big picture it didnt make a difference either way but at least you can take that out of the equation. Now if I can juuuuuusssst get into the game, I just want to peak at the terrain and then go to sleep.............honest. :)

  8. Hi Martin,

Trust me, I am VERY sure it asked me to reboot, but lets see what other preorders come up with. When I say "now its not" I meant simply after attempting to get the game started I must of went through all my activations, as it now states I've exceeded activations. I take it you have 3 which would be about right, the initial after install, and one thinking it was part of the activation process after ahem....reboot to ask for it again, and once trying to activate it manually to no avail.

It never actually has gone beyond the splash screen that states Play Now or Buy Now. Hitting options.exe takes me to the same splash screen. Lets say that no reboot was required, the installation was finished either way, yet a reboot shouldnt have had any bearing on starting the game correct? I know as you stated that it did accept the first activation attempt, where things when awry is when I attempted to start the game after ahem, the phantom reboot request :D No at the moment Ive never made it past the same splash screen with Play Now and Buy Now. I was tempted in uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but I feel it would be moot at this point having exhausted all my activations. The strange thing is, say it has shown Ive activated the product, but for whatever reason its not activated the game. Each additional activation attempt should not have counted, but apparently they have since I am out of activations. :D

Its a strange problem, but hopefully when everyone else begins to install we might see a pattern. I certainly hope not for their sake, but being at the moment the only person with the problem........a little person inside with horns hopes they do. :D

  9. Will do Martin,

But I am sure it asked for the system to be rebooted, the window came up right at the finish of the product. Ive all the other Battlefront games, always installed pretty flawlessly. This is the first one Ive had problems licensing. Cant even start the game, each time I hit the shortcut I am given the option to PLAY GAME or BUY GAME so obviously I choose to play :D Thats when the license box comes up again asking for auto or manual licensing. Hitting manual gets you nowhere it seems, the box just disappears. I dont wish this on others, but Im hoping Im not the only one who ends up having a problem.

I believe your right on the initial license entry after the installation, it did accept it as I read each prompt. I was a bit puzzled though why it was asking to have the system rebooted, and it was in the same box stating the license was accepted. Reboot later, and its still asking for the license key. Well now its not, I guess I went through all 3 thinking it was a server error. Sent a ticket in, hopefully they can offer some help, was really looking forward to this series version.

Take care, will let you know what it was.

  10. Seems either the activation servers are not ready or Ive experienced the first bug. Installed the product fine, at the end it asked for my license key which I provided, it then asked me to reboot which I did. When I hit the shortcut to start the game it displayed Play or Buy, so I clicked Play, it then asked for the activation license again which I provided, which was then met with a license server error. I tried it once more, same problem but now I am out of activations according to the game? Ive not even been in game yet :D Need my activations reset and hopefully an idea why the server is not accepting licenses. I even went into control panel to see if eLicense would allow me to give back an activation but its not even listed there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, sent an email as well.

  11. WATS-447 Service ticket

Id be happy to just have a working copy, 25.00 for nothing is worse than if something is worth something or not. Id like to judge it myself, but with a corrupt cd and no response from Battlefront is making me an unhappy camper either way. Maybe less time on the forum, more time helping those who have genuine problems like corrupt discs?

  12. WATS-447

I placed an order for 5 titles and the Theater Mission disc came in corrupt, Ive not heard a word from Battlefront after multiple emails and an active support ticket thats not been answered. When I hit the setup.exe, a message box pops up right away and states setup file is corrupt, please obtain a new copy. Ive not received a reply via email nor has my support ticket been replied to. How do I get a good copy of the Theater Mission disc?

    Thanks

  13. I bought Combat Mission Shock Force from Battlefront and also the Marine addon from Battlefront. How would we now patch the items if we were to install fresh today? Would it be simple install Shock Force, and then install the Marine addon? Or do we patch Shock force fully and then install the Marine addon?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I had played TOW many times before my last go the other night - I preordered and downloaded on day 1.

Please believe me I really wanted to like and enjoy this game - I did not buy it to criticize it!

I have played several tutorials, and also started two campaigns (2-3 battles each) before the pain and disgust overwhelmed me and I stopped playing TOW. It was no fun and historical rubbish from the tactics and gameplay perspective.

It was everything CM was not.

After a week or so away from the game, the other night, I tried another battle and it was still as bad as I had remembered - hence my posting. My last posting was made after a few drinks and I agree it was not useful - but I had previously expressed more clear and explicit criticisms.

I am not a beta tester or reviewer.

My position is one who feels he has been VERY badly let down by an old and trusted friend (ie Battlefront, and also, to a very limited extent 1c)

The game has a clunky interface and a terrible view system - the units do not act historically and IT IS NO FUN and NOT INTERESTING /HISTORICALLY SATISFYING TO PLAY.

Yes, I was expecting something in the heritage of CM.

Yes, I am aware that Battlefront did not design it - but they did "develop" it to be "more historically accurate and realistic".

Here are some other comments (not mine) from another thread

#1 Ability of Tank Crew when buttoned up, or even when opened up, to spot Infantry in prone positions needs to be reduced considerably. AI intel needs to be toned down. Fire by buttoned tanks should be most often limited to area fire.

#2 Infantry needs to go to ground when fired on. No more of this continual getting up and walking into fire again, till everyone is dead. If fired on, Infantry should go prone, then remain prone and crawl to a position where they can engage if ordered to attack. And prone infantry should have considerable negatives applied to the ability of weapons to hit them, even in open ground. As anyone who has studied small unit tactics knows, most ground has dead spots, where the folds of the earth provide cover.

#3 Infantry needs to have a better chance of taking out tanks with hand portable infantry weapons like Panzerfausts and Bazookas. In reality, a tank was very vulnerable to such weapons if it was maneuvering in close circumstances to infantry. Even infantry which is not equipped with these weapons had a chance to do damage with grenades and such like if they were close enough.

#4 The effects of Camoflauge and Cover needs to be added to the AI routine. Yes I know most of the maps don't have heavily enclosed terrain, but a force on the defence did what it could with the available materials, and often was able to conceal things like AT Guns or even Tanks. Look at the battlefield of Kurst. Flat open terrain for the most part, with a some agricultural development. Yet the Soviets were able to conceal most of their AT Guns pretty well.

At the beginning of a scenario, units should have a higher level of concealment, and less chance of being spotted until they move.

#5 The limited numbers of trees on the maps need to have more of an effect on line of sight. Right now, they have little or no effect. Not only is this wrong, it detracts once again from the ability of players to maneuver and use cover. Even an orchard, with its regular rows of trees had a negative effect on the ability to spot the enemy.

    What are my conclusions?

I was suckered and Battlefront have my money...

(lesson is now learnt, my mistake, I won't preorder a Battlefront game ever again)

..and I have a game I will never play (still no DVD or manual)

But if my money goes towards a WW2 CM2 game, that's OK...

I agree completely with your observations. I am also disappointed because this came through Battlefront not some silly company like Strategy First. I see a hands off, "we didnt develope it" attitude from Battlefront, but they are distributing it, and anything that would ever have my company name brand on it, I would of scrutinized it hard before allowing my distribution label and good name go on the shelves.

That being said, I am satisfied by Moons post that things will be corrected, and offering a free addon campaign. That does make up for a very let down feeling but I agree with Sandy on one issue from here on, I wont pre-order again. I to have been wargaming for decades, back to the days of maps and counters to finally the satisfactin of CM and its lineage. I really dont care how his original post sounded, when you pay 50+ shipping and expect quality work which both IC and Battlefront are known for, you instantly get fairly emotional that you have been had by a pushed out project. I dont believe that a demo is an accurate way to perceive a game, it just gives you very basic ideas of what you may get, but if I depended totally on demos, I would of lost a lot of money, or lost out on a lot of good games.

I would just say wait and see, its on my shelf waiting for a patch and the promised addon. I have a better feeling knowing these are coming down the pipe.

    regards

The reason why these guys were so "vocal" is because they wanted to stirr up s*** and had fun doing it, and that's all there is to it. Unfortunately a discussion forum is prone to this kind of thing (trolling) and in the interest of the thousands of other people on this forum it is our job to remove such people.

Totally agree, I am one who didnt like the game as is, I said it once, but left it at that. I think the difference is, dont keep coming back stirring and repeating yourself everyday about the same issue. Say your peace and cross your fingers that the problem will be addressed which it is apparently.

  16. Well one thing is certain, I will NOT be pre-ordering Shock Force nor buying it after its demo. Im waiting for reviews first from 3rd parties. I never thought I would say that about a Battlefront Game. Eesh, this one should of stayed in the oven longer. Presentation is everything.

Oh well, live and learn, even name brand items mean little in todays market.
