  1. It seems that you became the victim of the R35's engaging with their least effective weapon again, you'd almost start to think it's a genuine bug. Last game, they fired mostly HE. this time, only the MG. Another by now familiar event is an enemy vehicle (in this case even without a turret) having all the time to move somewhere, aim and fire a shot before the targeted vehicle even responds (although in this case one of the R35's was firing on some foxholes, so that probably caused the lack of a response). It's becoming a bit strange. In most wargames, the defending vehicles have the advantage. Here, the opposite seems to be the case. Good luck with dealing with the SPG's in any case, pity you don't have more mortars to ruin their day as the crewmen don't have an umbrella.
  2. The Axis defensive line collapsed rather quickly when your second batch of Shermans showed up. What keeps surprising me when reading AAR's is how attacking tanks, which are driving somewhere and don't know precisely where the enemy is, often get the first shot in on stationary enemy vehicles positioned to cover a certain area that the enemy tank is driving into, even when the defenders are hull down. I guess it might've been caused by poor spotting rolls in most instances, but it does seem to be happening far more often than I would've expected. I didn't expect your second batch of Shermans to remove the StuGs from the game this easily.
  3. In the examples in this AAR, the infantry was perfectly lined up, with units right next to eachother in the case of the platoon, allowing the strafing run to be so lethal. In real life, such conditions would be very rare in combat, infantrymen would take cover in various directions and would hear and see the plane coming. The aircraft would only have a very limited amount of time to train his guns on the small target, making hits unlikely. Infantry would be next to impossible to hit when the men are taking cover (crouching might be more effective than the prone position as you're being targeted from above, but minimizing exposure is possible). Strafing road columns with fairly densely packed infantry could be effective, but strafing squads operating in a tactical deployment would be closer to a waste of precious ammo that could also be used on a bigger target with a higher hit chance. A strafing run would keep the men from standing up and moving on, possibly, but it won't kill many with WWII accuracy and weapons.
  4. Nice AAR BigDork, the scenario has an interesting mix of Italian and German forces. Two short questions: what is your strategy for holding the farm in future turns? It's unfortunate that a second massive barrage hit after the one that hit the Italians. Do you intend to keep the farm area (the immediate area of where the two storey building was before it collapsed) occupied in strength? What do you think the odds are of the the StuG moving forward resulting in the Sherman(s?) possibly getting the first shot in and being able to target the lower hull armour, like with the StuG that was destroyed, as it moves over the crest of the hill? It seems like a somewhat risky move, but your luck has some catching up to do so it might work.
  5. My compliments for the well-written AAR, it's a very good read. The actual battle seemed somewhat one-sided in the second half due to the way your opponent defends, and due to some of your AFV's outclassing his, but the exposition on tactics is great.
  6. Concerning the limited placement locations for AT equipment: didn't we see a British gun being towed by a Universal Carrier or something similar in a movie, and placing the gun in some obscure position between a bunch of trees? That should indicate that the guns are not fixed in place or in placement. Besides: some of them can be pushed, right?
  7. If a visit this forum once a month, I really don't miss out on anything. Flaming seems more important than having actual discussions about the game, which also indicates just how "mature" people are.
  8. Lets see...I've not been active for a few weeks and what do I see when I get back: -Theatre of War might have gone "gold", yay! -People are asking question that were answered a long, long while ago. That's usual. -People are flaming eachother, calling eachother names and insulting eachother. The joys of online forums.
  9. Or how he is bugged by world rulers.
  10. A range of 4800 does seem to be a wee bit on the high end for a 20mm gun, but I guess it loses almost all penetration power after a few hundred meters. A question I just thought of: will vehicles with rapid fire weapons in their turret with sufficient elevation and traverse (say an Sdkfz 222) be able to fire at planes and will they automatically do so? The last part of the question goes for tanks with MG's on top too: will the gunner try to hit planes?
  11. ToW with a voice-over that will say "Casualty" (perhaps in a "dry" Russian-accent English, something for you Megakill?) when a friendly unit dies would be awesome. Making molotovs out of the heads of slain enemies would be cool too, but that would crank up the "rating" real bad ("this game has been rated *OMFGPAR* Oh my fricking god, parental advisory required"). Perimeter is still a game I like to play on a daily basis. As an on topic reply: the only "clunky" interface/battlefield view thing I've noticed is the camera. It doesn't look right, for some reason. I'm going to do all kind of wild camera movements in the demo before I pass a final verdict, however.
  12. You're trolling, and I hope you will get banned if you continue. You haven't answered a single question that people asked you for at least one page and your use of the English language is tedious at best. Either answer questions, or beat it out of a serious thread. Trolling=death.
  13. What kind of effect will the weather/state of the battlefield (covered in snow, broken terrain, flat) have on morale, if any? Will tank crews in, say, a Stuart, be very unhappy when they spot a Tiger?
  14. That radio's with infantry units were primarily used to call down artillery, when they worked at all. There are no FO's in this game, so radio's (or any other form of communication device) are useless. That's the point the people that replied to you have been trying to make (in somewhat inappropriate ways at times). You think of WWII as high tech, always functional modern-like radio's, but reality was different, hence the "lack of historical understanding" comment, which was meant to indicate just that: a lack of understanding for the history of the equipment. American mass produced radio's were not of a high quality, either. Multiple nations, with Germany taking the lead, also employed motorcycle couriers, because the Funk signals could not get through.
  15. Sammy_Beavis_Jnr: When Hofbauer "calls you names" (your statement, not mine) you don't have to respond at all, you can just continue with more serious things if you are offended. Your comment concerning the usage of radio's indeed lacks some historical understanding and probably won't be included in the game as Forward Observers are not included. The Americans used lots of radio's, but every other country that is included in this release did not. The advantage a radio would give is being able to communicate, but there's no need to communicate in game as you are the "god" that can see the entire battlefield. Radio's are great for tactical wargames, but those wargames would have to include Forward Observers. There's also no delay for spreading orders for tanks that are not equipped with radio's, as every tanks automatically knows what to do (unrealistic and gamey? Yes. Does it make the game more appealing to non-wargamers? Yes).
  16. Megakill, one thing I am wondering about is how the tides of war influence morale. Say, the Russians get defeated in scenario 1# and 2#, and the events of scenario 3# occur only shortly afterwards, will the Russians still start with relatively high morale? Or in reverse: will the Germans still have high morale in 1945?
  17. Grogs are creative enough to find a new thing to bitch about based on minimal amounts of new information. New screenshots and blog entries are being released at least a few times a week, so I would expect people to post about those. I don't like replying to the exact same question in ten difference threads, but there's always something new to talk about in a new thread.
  18. ...and where did all the new threads/posts go? Previously, we advanced 2 forum pages worth of threads each day, now we barely have a reply on a daily basis. Don't tell me the forum is dead before the game has even been released, that would remind me too much of a certain other forum I won't mention here (but which is about a game that has a name which sounds a lot like the boardgame "Axis and Allies").
  19. A Panther with a Pz IV turret would be a nice addition, but that is a bit too far fetched probably (they were made, but the mainstream gamer doesn't care and only wants the real Panther with an L/70, not an L/48). BTW: I noticed Moon's name is Martin van Balkom, does that mean he's (partially) Dutch/Flemish or did the Americans (or another country) steal another Dutch name?
  20. Stone75 makes a valid point: Units that can't see a friendly unit recrewing a tank (or an enemy unit recrewing an empty "friendly" tank) should fire on tanks they think are enemy units.
  21. (General notice: I went to a musicfestival on wednesday, hence the lack of posts on my behalf and the increase in overall forum sensibility ). The new screenshots look good! Edit: "David and Goliath" and there I was..thinking there would be more Goliath pictures. -What did the PIAT do to the Panther exactly? It's very hard to imagine the shot caused lethal damage (punched through skirts at an angle and seems to have ricocheted into the tracks). -Are objects that fly around actually objects, or are they just eye candy? As in: if the shovel that flies off the Tiger would fly into a nearby infantry squad, what would happen? [ August 20, 2006, 11:51 AM: Message edited by: ComradeP ]
  22. Radovan should reply to your post soon enough, he should be active. I hope he knows what his sources are, otherwise all the JP forum members will have to start browsing through their literature
  23. I doubt there's an accurate figure for the amount of 251's that were modified in the field, but I'll await M Hofenbauer's figures.
  24. If you would want to include RTS games: the Sudden Strike and Blitzkrieg series allows you to do it, and the *insert word here* General series shows towed artillery (which isn't strange, as the scale resolves around whole batteries).
