  1. sierra, I reacted in similar fashion to another of JasonC "gruff" posts in this very thread. His answers and knowledge are invaluable here, his interpersonal skills....meh. I too should take a moment to apologize to JasonC for my equally "gruff" response, no need to have any hard feelings here, either intentional or misconceived. Thanks for you many great posts JasonC. 2. Wow, sounds like good times! Drop me a line if you need some fresh meat. *EDIT* If you still need a new scenario, heres my latest. http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/scenario_details.html?command=search&db=scenarios.db&eqskudatarq=1451 Cheers.
  3. Thanks Mudhugger. Just uploaded my scenario to the Proving grounds tonight. (Link below if interested) http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/scenario_details.html?command=search&db=scenarios.db&eqskudatarq=1451 I do feel it may be worth another version on a larger scale after reading further.
  4. Sounds like you are playing these huge maps in their entirety. I am using Mapping Mission to break my master map up into manageable 1km x 1km sectors to be used in the campaign, then build battles of Company / Battalion size on them. I understand JasonC's point about moving away from the tactical intentions of CM when you get into micro-managing a Regimental sized game. I'm currently playing a Battalion sized game and it takes a serious time commitment to keep the turns going! Sierra are you familiar with Mapping Mission? If you are building large maps it makes life ALOT easier.
  5. Sierra, I am in the same position right now. I have been discussing in depth with my co-campaign creator and we have some good ideas. Be very interested to speak further and exchange Map files, ideas etc. If interested drop me a line at agostinoterzianodesign -at- gmail.com Hope you are not recovering from a wound taken in some crazy conflict somewhere, if you are hope you are well.
  6. **EDIT / APOLOGY*** should have been posted in CMAK, won't double post it in hopes that an admin will move it? Sorry. __________________________________________________ Working on a scenario based on the 10th Mountain Div. attack on Mt.Belvedere in Northern Italy 45' I believe elements of German Army Group C was defending Mt. Belvedere, under command of Heinrich von Vietinghoff. Can anyone outline a "slice" of the OB for the german defenders? The allies will be attacking with 2 Company’s of the 3rd Bn.85th Mountain Infantry Regiment, with heavy weapons support including 30 cal. liquid cooled and 50 cal. air cooled machine guns and 60 mm mortars. Just having trouble finding exactly what type of German infantry would be up on the hill. (Hopefully JasonC is not sour at me for my admittedly "snarky" comment to another of his responses in another thread as I'm sure he could enlighten me here!)
  7. There are lots of nice ones @ cmmods, just installed some a week ago.
  8. Just sharing an idea Jason. I have listened to, and thank you for all your valuable comments and input so far, including the above quoted. Beyond that, I'm not sure what there is to be sympathetic about? Save your sighs and scolding tone for your children please.
  9. I have come to (very stubbornly) the conclusion that this Campaign would never work without a neutral GM. Inter-phase movement and the results of those moves are what makes the campaign fluid and realistic. My alternative would be, considering this is my first attempt at a large game involving more than 2 players, to operate this thing as a giant "Static Operation" with one player from each side in each of the 5 map columns. Slightly more involved rules could be developed to allow flanking attacks etc. Exporting the maps as "North/South" static operations with Mapping Mission would allow a flexible and ever changing front line running across the entire operational map.
  10. I have been trouble shooting the problem tonight, and yes slowing the export speed seems to be the ticket. I dropped it from 1(fastest) to 10 and it made it about 75% across the map before things went to scatter. The speed options go as far as 50(slowest) so Im confident that it will work as long as I keep the speeds even slower. I would think this has to do with processor speed and I thought I would be ok considering my system specs. Perhaps it has nothing to do with my system and everything to do with Mapping Mission? Smaller maps worked fine.
  11. I am working on my first big map using Mapping Mission 1.12 The map is to be used for a campaign and is 5km wide by 4.5km high. I am using the "export selection to CMBB" option to export individual map sectors to review. Things have gone well with the 1km x 1km map tiles, but when I try to export a slightly larger sector, 1km x 1.5km there are problems. As I watch it's progress in the map editor, all the elevations go in smoothly. Then the first 25% of the map terrain is loaded properly but then starts to become scattered and terrain is ending up in the wrong spots and most of it is missing. (I can post screen shots by request) Any ideas what may cause this? Thanks
  12. Well, thought I'd give a quick update of my progress. I have 15km/sq. of a total 22.5km/sq. campaign map completed using Mapping Mission 1.12 I have pillaged JasonC's and Renaud's valuable input here to help with storyline. That same information is in the hands of a friend who is helping. He is going to be responsible for creating the initial OOB's and helping finalize the rules. I have decided to take an "alternate history" approach, with slight alterations to the map to encourage fighting along the banks of the Don river both inside and outside the city. I am still 99% confident this can be executed without a neutral GM considering the "dumbed down" approach I am taking. That being said, Renaud I will still drop you a line in the near future when I am closer to completion and see what, if any, role you might like to play in the Battle for Rostov. With that for now, I leave you with my new signature I made to use as the Russian Commander! Thanks again guys for your help, another update to come when I am nearly complete.
  13. Renaud, thanks for your input as well! JasonC, of course continued thanks to you as well. Perhaps I have thought to big when considering map sizes. Note: This will be an alternate history campaign in many regards. We also plan to keep the rules system much "dumbed down" when compared to other CMMC's (which this is not of course). Again, I can't thank the both of you enough.
  14. I agree, JasonC this is all great stuff and will be a big help during the creation of this campaign. I share your ideas about the size and composition of the campaign map/grid. I have included a rough layout of what I am thinking. (There will be one additional Row of sectors extended North.) This image is an area 24km x 14km (2000m x 2000m sectors with the bottom sectors being 2000m x 3000m to include the bridges) which I plan to map at 1/2 scale for a total area of 12km wide x 9km deep (including additional row). I will also be taking some liberties with the location and route of the Don River, dropping the East & West sections of it lower into the bottom sectors to provide more land to fight on. My idea for final objectives is having the Germans capture and establish bridgeheads at 4 -of- 5 bridges over the Don.
  15. Will you be my campaigns GM? Those are all good points, and yes I agree with you at this point. Keep in mind this is not a META campaign, but most of your points still apply. I guess now I must decide if I want to play or be the GM. The best thing to do is work away at it to a point where I have a near completed package and then present it to anyone who may be interested. Thanks again for your insight, much appreciated.
  16. JasonC I am now 100% convinced you are not human, but in fact a WWII data base with word recognition software allowing you to communicate directly with human forum users! Where on earth did you get this information? Thanks a heap, you just gave me a GREAT starting point!
  17. After actual testing, I see this COULD work but, you would have to have the ALLIED commander purchase his units first, then before saving the battle switch the "Purchase unit screen" to AXIS. The game, by default loads the battle editor "Purchase unit screen" showing the AXIS force first, and if they have not been purchased yet, the list will be blank! Of course, there could be other issues that will come up as I build my campaign, but for now I think I have found a work around for this one!
  18. JasonC, this was my thoughts on the matter as I am brainstorming. The only thing I can see being a problem would be when it comes time to load actual units into the battles at the beginning of each phase. My work around (not tested in the CM editor) would be... 1. Load maps accordingly. 2. Team A commander loads his units into the battle and ( if possible ) saves the battle and sends it to Team B Commander. 3. Team B Commander loads the battle and without looking at the enemies OOB, loads his own and starts the battle. Of course there is an honour system in place here, which we dont have to worry about. Thoughts?
  19. Gentlemen. I have recently got the CM campaign bug! This is a whole new world to me, and frankly I think this is the way CM is meant to be played! My question is, as I begin work on my first campaign the question has crept up during my brainstorming sessions. "Is it possible to host a CM campaign without a neutral GM dedicated only to the running of the campaign, and not fighting in the actual battles?" The campaign is being designed with 8-10 players in mind, and of course I want to play in it as well as create and organize it. Your thoughts?
  20. Certanly be happy to exchange ideas. I am still in the very early planning stages. I am currently playing in my first META Campaign: The Battle of Lauban. It is simply amazing in detail and organization. The creators and GM's there have inspired me to think about creating my own (be it MUCH smaller scale) campaign. Over the coming weeks/months I am going to be working on the details and picking the brains of the likes of JasonC. Let me know in this thread when you have your initial concept together and we should speak further about our ideas.
  21. JasonC, you are a deep well of knowledge my friend. I was in fact coming back here in hopes of getting your attention and you had already been here. That information helps alot. I have been reading as much as I can on the web but in all honesty you just supplied more information than a half dozen other articles. If you could, what would you suggest a good generic if not specific force mix for a small Rostov Campaign might be? When I say small, I am thinking 8 players (4 per side) with Rostov and the surrounding areas to the Northeast/Northwest mapped out over a 5 x 3 grid with each sector being 2000m x 2000m +/- (10km wide by 6km high) I am using the map below, along with others to build the campaign maps. I will be extending the area north to include outlying roads / villages. I am taking an alternate history approach to this one, with the Russians standing and fighting for the city not wanting to let the city fall to the Germans again. So, thanks again for your information JasonC. Lastly if I were to read one book about the Battle or 1942 summer offensive into the Caucuses, what would you suggest?
  22. To rehash this thread, just got mapping mission 1.12 for a campaign I am about to start working on. Sounds like life just got alot easier with this little gem! Love the idea of making one huge map, then pulling sectors out to create each battle.
