    Hey Jim,
Welcome, and you have my sympathies, trust me.  These are a good bunch for the most part but like any bar there is always a few "guys" who just gotta be.  So have you tried CMCW by any chance?

Sgt.Squarehead reacted to dbsapp in 28 Soldiers
It was not proven a myth in 2015...
In fact so-called Panfilov's 28 story deals only with relatively small episode of Panfilov's division actions and based on propaganda article that was published during the war. Not surpising at all that such article was not factually correct and was written to rise the spirit of soldiers fighting at the front line, not to be peer reviewed.
It so happened that article gained huge pupularity and people mentioned in it were posthumously awarded Heroes medals. But after the war it turned out that some of them were still alive. That initiated official investigation in 1948 that proved that the article was not a historical research or beholder's evidence, but sort of fictional short story vaguely based on the real events.
Those documents became publicly available in 1980s.
It is the historical fact that Panfilov's division played a major role in Moscow's defense, suffered heavy casualties and managed to slow down Wehrmacht advance, which  by all accounts is a trully heroic action.
Time after time "sensational evidence" that 28 story is "false" emerge in mass media and produce yet another "scandal". This happened again in 2015 before the movie hit the screens.

In my experience, opposing units within two tiles (16m) massively favour grenades over their rifles, even against units only briefly passing through that zone.

How about a variant background for late 2024.....After a series of unfortunate border incidents, the Mexican government purchases Iskander & S-400 systems from Russia and invites Russia to establish a series of military bases accross the country.
Wonder how that one might play out?

The difference in the front hull pale might be LOS thickness as opposed to actual thickness, but I am at a loss to explain the discrepancy in the figures for the turret.....Will have to look in some books.

Sgt.Squarehead got a reaction from A Canadian Cat - was IanL in IED Mechanics?
I asked about that a long time ago, possibly pre-release, but I don't recall getting a definitive answer.  In theory one would expect ECM to have a fairly profound effect on Radio IEDs and perhaps also Cell IEDs at the strongest settings (all your servers belong to us).

Well, I am successfully making "something" and will use it in a new scenario. It uses church building304 but I removed the turrets and de-churified the exterior and floor. Now my premise is that in this village of Piepsk was a grouping of nice sturdy old Imperial Russian houses, rich people lived there but now they are the homes or offices of some communist party members or whatever. I will add some texture options for visual variety and see if I can cycle through 00, 01, 02, maybe a 03, maybe even a 04? I am not sure for indy buildings but will find out soon. Pictures later today...

I have played a pbem using the berlin brigade already, my they smashed all my armor as the soviets. But I gave them a pretty good bloody nose.

Post conversion there are a couple of building types that sometimes have extra invisible floors, or roofs that look like an upper floor. It seldomly occurs though... if anything its nearly at the same rate as maps from official releases.

The black rubble walls are the most prodominant issue. They are the only part of the maps that dont translate.

It is true, the Berlin Wall is found only on the West Berlin map, and then it's barely on the map. It would fit for a QB, but probably not a master map.

If there was a tool to shift the items/buildings/topography on map Eastward then it could make sense to use the West Berlin map with an extension added to the West.

The amount of effort that went into the Berlin map must have been truly incredible and insane. It would be a total waste to leave it bound specifically to F&R. Most people that dont own F&R probably dont even know it exists, something that would certainly influence their purchase.

Sgt.Squarehead reacted to Armorgunner in Ukraine purchases/ed Javelin missile system. More to come?
    Interesting!
But according to Wikipedia it uses a traditional shaped charge.
" The Javelin missile's tandem warhead is a HEAT type.[7] This round utilizes an explosive shaped charge to create a stream of superplastically deformed metal formed from trumpet-shaped metallic liners. The result is a narrow high velocity particle stream that can penetrate armor."
    FGM-148 Javelin - Wikipedia
TOW-2B Top attack missile uses an EFP warhead though. BGM-71 TOW - Wikipedia So you maybe mixed them up? Sweden was first with top attack missiles in 1988, with the BILL 1 Top attack - Wikipedia. And our joint England/Sweden missile (NLAW, MBT LAW, Dont know what you call them in UK, we call them Rb 57) use the BILL 2 warhead with 2 EFP warheads I belive? At least the main warhead is a EFP.

But I would want to know if bar armor is working against EFP´s to. But since EFP is not contact triggered. BAR armor should have no effect against EFP warheads. Since they detonate above the BAR armor?

Very pretty.....I'd have no issues with CM looking like that, but only if there was no cost to the gameplay (which I suspect there would be).

Sgt.Squarehead got a reaction from BeondTheGrave in Czechmate Battle- baffled by map design (vague spoilers)
It's not a problem with the scenario per-se, it's the disposition of the initial units and especially the reinforcements.
I really want to play this through, I can feel there's a complex and well laid out defence to pick my way through and all the assets to do so are provided (the AT teams turned up just as I was thinking, I could really use the Battalion AT Assets right now).
There are just some (IMHO easily fixable) issues with getting those assets into play.
Is it OK to chat by PM?

AT Assets (BTRs with SPG-9 Teams).....Spawn up on the right side in direct LOS to a (in my case previously unspotted) M60, I got to give them a sum total of one order before they were effectively hors de combat!
I can see you added some extra trees to the initial deployment area, but it still doesn't fully block LOS.....TOWs (& possibly tank rounds) were still being fired into the deployment area in my most recent play through (I can only assume the US force doesn't have artillery, or that the units with LOS to the Soviet setup area don't have access to it, or our deployment area would be shelled to pieces in a few turns).  Once again a TOW (miraculously, given its guidance) eventually got through all those trees and hit a T-62, wounding several nearby TCs into the bargain.
Then there's the traffic Jam when the main reinforcement arrives.....As the player by now knows that the area is under observation, disentangling these units becomes a rather fraught task.
I'm finding this scenario very frustrating, You just don't have enough mass to push down the main road until the reinforcements turn up.  But when they arrive you have to spend several turns unpicking the units from the traffic jam, with TOW (& possibly tank rounds) whistling into the area all the while.  Maybe I'm just having bad luck, but it's very consistent bad luck, through over half a dozen play throughs of two different versions of the scenario.
Scouting is also difficult with the forces at hand (the BRDMs still lack recon teams & a HQ and thus any proper C2 links to the main formation).  While it's easy enough to get spots on US units on the left hand hill from the buildings on the right, it's extremely hard to report it up the C2 network as vehicles with radios dare not approach many of the better spotting locations.....I had a platoon commander dashing back & forth in an attempt to keep higher units informed.
@ASL Veteran Please don't take this as an attack.....It surely ain't that.  I know how much effort goes into making something like this, but I'm equally aware that as a designer it's possible to miss the obvious because of sheer over familiarity with one's own project.  This is my absolute favourite map in CM:CW (thus far at least) and I'm just finding it very frustrating that I'm having such a **** time with the stock scenario set on it.
I'm probably going to make my own modification of this scenario, with almost exactly the same forces, I'm just going to restructure the deployment and reinforcements, nothing more.  I won't even look at the AI as I have absolutely no problems with what I'm seeing there.

That was what I was trying to determine without setting up (yet another) test scenario myself.....Many thanks to @Artkin for doing so.
Looks like it should be possible to use CM:BS to model a contemporary scuffle without too much difficulty.....With a few mods it could be pretty convincing.

I'm really enjoying the original version, I'm thirty turns in and so far only four rounds have been fired.....All spotting rounds from what I believe is an 82mm Mortar targetting OP-1.
My lads are having it away on their toes, hopefully they'll get clear before the stonk arrives!  We've got a pretty good view of the German positions and are beginning to set up our own (there were a few C2 issues to begin with as various units waited for their parent formations to arrive).
Thus far I'm having a lot of fun.
I'll send you a PM with a link to my current save.

    I share this experience...I didn't think i would like the more modern stuff...But i do 😊
WW2 is still my favorit though...A few reasons for this...
    - CMSF2...I like it but it would be even better if it could be brought up to current day also...
    - CMBS...Nice game but the setting really does not do it for me...realistic and current as it might be.
    - CMCW...I have fairly limited experience with this as of yet but my initial feeling is that it needs some expansions to get some more variaty into the game...
If we where to get things like current day Iran Vs Western, Current day Korea or current day China Vs Western then the fully modern stuff might very well become my favorit games...😎
