I'm Squarehead, not Slaughter.....It eventually took me 33 attempts before I finally got out of the mess I had made for myself in the [REDACTED] on the [REDACTED].
TBH there was a deliberate policy at play there, let's just say I had a vested interest in viewing the outcome, very satisfying it was too.....But also an utter b*****d to deal with without major losses!

LOL I would rest assured since Steve said it was in progress and given his track record of not releasing stuff to early we should all just play the games we have - it will help pass the time.

A major aspect of MOS' TOC scenario that am enjoying is having enuff time in 4 hours to decide what one's overall strategy and "standard operating procedures" are for dealing with the insurgents.  Of course one's plans have to be continually updated depending on what surprises may blindside you.  The Russians and Separatists have complex plans of their own and it feels like am playing vs a cunning human oppo.
In addition, a player has to examine intelligence reports from IIRC 5(!) sources (S2, SCIF, SIGINT, UAV's, HUMINT...) as well receive requests from Ukrainian Liaison officers and consider logistics, ammo conservation as well as transport of supply to troops and also of Defectors to evacuation sites... Your Forward Operating Base even has a "functioning" helicopter landing pad where you receive men and supplies and also evacuates Defectors.  There is even a motor pool shop which cleverly simulates repaired vehicles being returned to service... and much more...
TOC has features that have never been seen in any CM2 game and is a truly revolutionary re-imagining of what a CM2 title can accomplish in terms of providing exciting challenges for experienced and also less experienced players.  As we know, most CM2 games are very unforgiving of mistakes.  But, in TOC, one can make errors and still recover the initiative.
TOC provides enuff reinforcements and assets that one can make blunders and still recover the initiative and play to the end without restarting a savedgame (unless you are Sgt Slaughter of course - sorry SS, couldn't resist hehe).       (Am about halfway thru testing Beta 8, so I may still eat those words however.)

"You only get one chance to make a good first impression."   BF has a very smart policy of not releasing anything till it's completely ready and it applies here as well.
People are looking for, and eager to jump all over, flaws in a new scenario.  This system of MOS is so good I hope it inspires many other designers to stretch the envelope.  But, it's a very sophisticated concept scenario and it has to be as perfect as it can be to really showcase its features.  Due to its length, it's doubtful many will want to play an updated version if there is a problem with what is released.

    Schrullenhaft,
Your voluntary contributions to resolving software issues continue to amaze me. Your presence on this forum is quite the boon to the vast majority of us who don't have a fraction of your deep operating systems knowledge. Whether that contribution is recognized by those to whom your services are offered is a moot point. The rest of us recognize what you do and applaud you for it.
    Thanks.

As it happens I am a Beta tester and you did not say that you had opened a ticket so I think it was a fair comment. Anyway, whatever, I hope you get it fixed.

.kmz is on the list of files that google earth can open. Could it be a GPS mapping of the battle fields.

My response- "are you freakin kidding me?  With all the possibilities you give me those 2 options?"
    My preferences -
    1. CM Afghanistan remade in CM 4.0 with both the USSR Era and the current war represented
    2. Fulda Gap
    3. Mid East war 67/73.
However given only those two choices - early war.  Desert is boring - especially the maps.  Much rather have the Fall of France.  Stonne as a campaign game!!!!!!

Everything is present, almost everything works, what doesn't is beyond @MOS:96B2P's abilities to fix, but not his abilities to mitigate.....Just a matter of pacing and final rebalancing IMHO, based on about 33% of the latest beta.
It just ain't possible to speedrun this one and still generate detailed feedback, there's a hell of a lot going on, the player is left to devise his own plan, but the seperatists have plans of their own.....Put it this way, I thought I came up with some pretty radical stuff here & there, but testing this has made me completely revise my ideas of what is possible with the CM engine.
This genuinely is a campaign in a scenario, consequently there's a campaign's worth to get just right.
PS - In my current play through I was a bit too casual about something and now I'm in a world of hurt.....But it's awesome watching it develop and trying to extricate myself from the mess is proving hugely challenging!

It is not my definition of terrorism but one of the most common technical one you would find in a lexicon.
Also I give a single damn about what you and your friends do. Using a odd racial attribution like this in order to classify if the term "terrorist" applies or not is just completely off. Pointing that out has nothing to do with arrogance.
Also why should terrorist organizations be beyond CM´s scope? CM does not have to model the terrorism incident per se but isn´t it possible they could see assmyetrical conflict with regular forces? You basically already see an abstraction of that in Combat Mission Shock Force. The Uncons potrayed there basically can be everyone from displaced regulars, insurgents, to members of said organizations.
Also you are the one that should carefully reread what people are posting here. Point me out where I say  "all partisans = terrorists". Do you see the term "insurgent" there or did you conveniently skip that?
I don´t know what the hell triggered you to come up with this odd stuff.
I´m off for a round CM.

no you missed what I said.  It did not work in CMBS.  It did work in CMSF2.  Will it still work when released?  No idea. And sorry I don't think it is appropriate for me to be pushing an item like that with BF.  It will be what it will be and anything further is likely going to get me spanked.  I may even be over the line already.  Still I will keep my fingers crossed for ya.

I don't think so.......... Or if so I would like to know how .  Triggers are terrain based (paint the terrain tiles) for friendly, friendly armor or enemy and enemy armor.  Or I may not understand what you're saying ............... In parameters you can set % for conditions tied to VPs.

In reality, in the Shock Force 2008 Syrian Invasion scenario as posited by Battlefront I would think the ability of the Syrian Air Force to get through to carry out an airstrike would be quite low. It wasn't until the NATO module that the feature in the game was even added IIRC. Perhaps BF just decided to do it as it was easy to code.
I once suggested scenario makers could use the Syrian Air Force units to represent contributions by former Warsaw Pact, now NATO, countries to the war effort as they were still flying some of the same planes back then.  :)

Count me in on that as well! A CM: Fulda Gap is my dream CM game. I'm ok knowing that it is basically impossible within the next 5 years or more, but I'm hoping eventually they get around to it.
Back on topic, I'm glad to hear that the scenarios are getting a dressing up with all the new engine improvements in mind. Can't begin to imagine how tedious that must be, so hats off to everyone slogging through that.

Looked into. ECM appears to work against radio IEDs. ECM strong, no boom, ECM off... BOOM! Radio IEDs have about a 20% failure rate, regardless, I believe.
