  1. Finally got the blighters to fire.....It seems they won't fire at trucks or pickups (the target in my test) but they will call fire in on anyone who fires at them (I used a Mine Team instead). But this doesn't completely explain why the damned things wouldn't fire in Action & Reaction, there were plenty of non-truck targets.....I really need to figure this out.
  2. I'm seriously confused.....I can't seem to get AI controlled artillery to work in my scenarios, yet I've just played a scenario (Desperate Crossing) in which a Red AI Forward Observer appeared to be directing fire against my Mujahideen normally (I was sure I'd experienced AI controlled artillery in the past, hence my surprise when I couldn't make it work). I've looked at the scenario in the editor and I cannot see any obvious differences between the designer's scripts & my own......Can anyone help! Just checked that scenario in Author test mode and sure enough the spotter is behaving exactly as I recall from my earlier efforts and also from CM:SF, he's surrounded by a big yellow circle (his field of view at a guess) and has a green line pointing to the artillery's target. Could my install be broken somehow, what the hell is going on?
  3. That's how I feel on 11th November every year.....I'm not an ex-squaddie, but war has still had its effects. Apologies for the Kiwi thing if you read it, getting you mixed up with a modelling buddy.
  4. The apparent head-chopper density level seems within reasonable bounds, it's no skirmish admittedly, but once you've spotted 'em you can swat 'em like bugs.....Depending on the tool chosen for that job, the question of how many there were originally would probably be a matter for speculation (and/or DNA analysis). That being said if you go sending your pixeltruppen charging around like the Red Army things won't end at all well for them.....Briefing says as much, pretty clearly.
  5. Those counters, at that price.....Oh dear! I have two of the (IIRC) three available 1/35 kits of Objekt 279, one (not terribly good one) from Panda (godawful ejector pin marks on each and every one of the single track links, all 288 of them), the other a much better kit from Takom. I believe I have drawings of 279 stashed somewhere so I'll check the parts from both kits, see how they compare and use the best ones.....I'm pretty sure this will leave me an empty Takom box and a full Panda kit, but I could well be wrong.
  6. I think 120 definitely looks more plausible than 10, I'm more worried about other issues, as discussed elsewhere, but not quite as badly as I was earlier on.
  7. You forgot to mention the price of Vanta, it's horrendous! More stuff on 'Power-Kites'.....But these are a bit different: http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/kite-power-station-scotland-wind-turbine-plant-electricity-a7348576.html Massively better idea than ugly turbines, when the wind don't blow, the power-station don't exist.....When it does, well kites doing yo-yos isn't the most objectionable sight in the world and it's a lot better for the wildlife/UFOs.
  8. Each press of P or click of 'Pause' initially increases the duration; 10secs, 20secs, 30 secs, 45secs, 1min, 1min15secs, 1min30secs. The next press/click will keep the unit paused until P is pressed or 'Pause' clicked again (I find this useful in real-time). One more press/click in the same order phase will turn Pause off completely, resetting the unit to normal behaviour. That was surprisingly hard to explain.....Basically just keep pressing P or clicking 'Pause', you'll soon suss it out.
  9. One word.....Comet: It took almost the entire war, but we did finally get one right!
  10. Yup, that list is a good summary of much of my youth. My attic's still full of the stuff, I've got some great lead figures too, there's an untouched Citadel Great-Spined Dragon (minus the box sadly for the resale value) and some lovely old Ral-Partha stuff up there somewhere. I can return to the subject of tanks at the drop of a hat though.....I'm literally surrounded by (kits of) those: Then there's the kites.....I do like my toys!
  11. I have the original FASA Star Trek RPG, Deluxe Edition (with Combat Sim included) and a fair bunch of the supplements, but my first love was Chaosium stuff. I am the proud owner of Ringworld RPG and a signed Ringworld Companion. I have a draft copy of fifth edition Pendragon and a bunch of other rarities.....Yup, I am a semi-reformed RPG nerd and proud of it too.
  12. Please drink one for me. Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well He chased us with bullets, he rained us with shells And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell Nearly blew us right back to Australia But the band played Waltzing Matilda As we stopped to bury our slain We buried ours and the Turks buried theirs Then we started all over again
  13. Very likely just me dude, it's been a long day TBH (Sister, Niece, Nephew & Buddy, their new, rather lovely but also large & untrained dog).
  14. My mistake about d/l link (if you had time to read it) misread the post.....The d/l link there is different to normal though.
  15. JK, I am probably going to be building my 1/35 Objekt 279 over on Britmodeller in short order, I'll post a link if you want to look in, BM has some seriously talented modellers.
  16. ROFL.....That's stonking! Rule 3. Nearly made me fall off my chair! You will break Erwin's heart!
  17. Translation, English to Para: "Somebody's going to get their 'kin head kicked in!"
  18. I wasn't sure how cold sunset in Mosul in November actually is (I had set the parameters to cold & damp, I think cool & dry might be better). EDIT: It appears the average temperature for Mosul in November is 110C. This seems to be as close as I'll get: TBH I've been a bit distracted catching up with the boxing tonight.....Needed a break from the editor and prevaricating over writing briefings is my particular speciality.
  19. Getting pretty close now: Massive thanks to Combatintman and of course LongLeftFlank for their utterly invaluable assistance (not to mention a pretty good base map).
  20. This looks like a possibility for some interesting hypothetical CM:SF scenarios: https://warisboring.com/malis-desert-climate-is-the-doom-of-armored-vehicles/ Having read about the Bundeswehr's recent efforts in Eastern Europe, I'm not at all convinced it's down to the climate!
