  1. It doesn't matter, 30 min after release the full version will be available as a torrent whether BF puts it there or not. It may be on there already. As was stated earlier, the more legitimate use torrent gets the better it gets and the less it will be used for piracy. My reason for this post is a purely practical one. I can get files much faster off of BT than an overloaded hosting server. I also hate clicking through all the mirror sites looking for one that doesn't charge you for high speed no line up access, or access at all.
  2. I have no reason to propogate the demo. I am not BF trying to promote a new game by getting the demo out to as many people as possible. I don't have BT running all the time.
  3. Battlefront could use Bittorrent to distribute their demo and even the game since it uses online activation. This would save them teh expence of paying for hosting bandwith, and everyone would get it faster, not having to wait in long dowload cues. Other developers are starting to clue in to the power of torrents. The more that do the more it will become a standard. At least provide it as an alternative method of downloading. Alot of people can download torrents faster than from overcrowded hosting servers.
  4. I just read a quote from a review. I don't know why I didn't notice this before. There are no movement waypoints. Is this true or a mistake? If it is true it is a huge mistake on the part of the developers. Waypoints are basic essentials for this type of game.
  5. I say Aye! Of all the wargames I have played: Close Combat, THe Panther Games series, Combat Mission, Steel Panthers, the Total War series, to name a few. The AI ALWAYS gets too easy after a while. Alot of games allow the AI to cheat to make it more of a challenge, which is always extremely frustrating, you need to play someone who is playing by the same rules, weather it be AI or Human. The only way to get real satisfaction from playing a wargame is to play against a human oponnent with comparable skills. I have an online partner which I play all my wargames with. Having a person who I play games with regularily also allows to play long multiplayer campaigns, which increase the enjoyment of the game by a huge factor.
  6. There are monitors with 16:9 16:10 and 15:9 and 4:3 Normal apect ratio's. An example of 16:9 resolution is 1600 x 900
  7. It looks like every individual tree is modeled.
  8. Representing each tree can be done without killing your graphics card. Anyone here played Operation Flashpoint. The maps in that game were enormous, and every tree was modeled individually. There were large heavily wooded areas as well. In the heavily wooded areas you definately had freak LOS occuring. OFP is an old game and runs great on a Gforce1 Card.

    Public Beta

Am I reading the information in this thread correctly? According to Moon the beta will be available for download, and according to the interview on Gamecloud the beta testers are playing the game right now. I'm confused. Is there going to be a public beta? I sure hope so.
  11. Oh yeah, I was going to mention, though most here are probably aware of it. There is an excellent site -> http://gva.freeweb.hu/ describing armour penetration and ammunition types from WWII. I found it suprising to know that most all of the tank ammunition used today was used in WWII including HEAT, And SABOT, as well as Tungsten Core rounds, they didn't have depleted uranium yet.
  12. ClaytoniousRex, Thank you for the response, it is good to know that the penetration model is that complex, it is really an amazing project you guys have done. I can't wait to see the finished product.
  13. I would like to start by saying that this game sounds amazing, I can't wait to buy it. I hope that TBG software and battlefront are very successfull with this game and set an example for other developers as CM has done. I have only recently discovered this game. While reading the very informative web page, although I find the information on how the game is played a little hard to find, I noticed the description of armour penetration. It made me think of Panzer Elite's armour penetration model. To the point of this post. In your description of the effects of sloped armour you describe how the slope of the armour increases it's effectiveness because the projectile has more armour to penetrate on the angle. This is incorrect. Sloped armour is significantly more effective than what you describe. The most significant effect of sloped armour is not caused by a projectile having to penetrate more armour. When a projectile strikes armor at close to perpindicular angles all the energy of the projectile is absorbed by the surface. When a projectile strikes armour at a non perpindicular angle the energy of the projectile is partially or completely DEFLECTED. Sloped armour has different effects on different types of ammunition. The armour peircing ballistic cap rounds from WWII were designed to lessen the effect of the projectile striking armour at non perpindicular angles by having a flat tip covered by a fragile cone to preserve the balistic properties of the projectile. The flat tip of the round would increase the chance of it digging in to the armour and not have it's energy reflected. Sloped armour is also less effective against HEAT, and HESH rounds than say SABOT type rounds. I am not an expert in armour penetration but I have a good understanding of physics. It has always bothered me when I hear people explain the effectiveness of sloped armour in the way your website does. I know this is pure nitpicking, please do not take it as criticism of the game, I know it's going to be incredible.
