  1. Of course, once could argue that an insular community of grogs or indie gamers might buy too much into their own hype. There are people over on the Mount & Blade forum who were absolutely incensed over the official (non-user) Gamespot review of their own pet game, despite that most of what Gamespot said about it was absolutely true (combat is great, macro stuff is a chore, little to no help for new players, etc.). Of course, putting on the whole "young people today" airs won't exactly help either. Has that ever worked? When I started playing this series of ours, it wasn't because some grog told me that I wasn't playing the "correct" wargames.
  2. I've found that Gamespot itself is hardly unduly harsh, but the user reviews are generally useless. The user average is now up to 7.9, which is what the OP was talking about. Their actual critics haven't yet weighed in, but expansion packs aren't really high on their to-do list.
  3. Besides, the Monroe Doctrine was created to prevent the intervention of European powers into nations of the Americas, so it doesn't apply anyway.
  4. I don't know how common this is, but in a recent game, an EMP mission landed in the middle of a close-range fight, disabling my vee and a bunch of the bots. However, a lot of the bots took this as being disabled permanently, and they decided to all kill themselves.
  5. Why, just why could I see myself using something like this like a ZSU?
  6. Wouldn't be too far off. We actually do have both kinds of artillery munitions IRL, if I correctly remember.
  7. Well, the viper can be used to independantly capture the flag, as shown by yurch. Clay was also able to pick up the flag carrier and tow him back to our own in one game as well, though he'd know better what kind of resistance was on the ground during that run.
  8. Oh, yeah, just so you folks all know, I'm R13 in the actual game.
  9. Oh, yeah, yurch. Thanks for shooting the hell out of me when I tried the time-tested "Paladin drive-by" on you. I was beginning to get a little worried about the Thor.
  10. The Hermes cannon can shoot down dropships, artillery, and missiles, but not regular projectiles like the ion towers can.
  11. Also, though related to blasting MBTs with the EW, but not quite, I do think that it's awesome that the vee schematics aren't just fluff.
  12. After some more play, MBTs have a new designation: Massive, Bloated, Target. Those things are practically trivial to defeat with even the comparitavely lumbering Paladin-EW. It'll be common for me to run down and kill 3 or more of the things before I get nailed by the occasional Tempest. Apollos are easy kills too, considering that the 20mm has frontal penetration against their armor.
  13. EMP is actually the best fort-buster, in my experience, not the HE mission. I find those best for CTF games where they enemy has bunkered up their flag with the deployable turrets.
  14. Another thing that seems to be overlooked concerning defense against the IDF mortars is that the automated gun on the Paladin EW can shoot them down.
  15. As a response to the previous comments on the defender advantages, the objective-type game is quite doable. coordination is key, and don't forget about your EMP missions. They lock up the defenders, and as far as I can tell, can't be shot down by the ion towers.
