  1. Purely curious, were there no Churchill tanks in Italy during this time period? I love my lumbering hulks of doom and was a bit disappointed that I couldn't see them in the British armoured list, think I was trying May 44, I *think*, so there may be a period that they arrive - if there is I'd appreciate someone telling me when that is! Cheers
  2. Hi there, When it comes to picking units I find myself alt-tabbing out to Google what's what. I know a fair bit about WW2 but not enough to know what each halftrack variant comprises of, and there are so many! In previous CM games you'd get a rough bit of info on your unit before picking it - armour, speed and armament usually, but not so in CMBN, unless I'm missing it? If there's nothing that exists and no community effort to compose a list then I'll have to start taking notes, that's all
  3. This. I'd like to know what I'm picking, instead of trial and error
  4. Would be nice to get options when setting Target/Covering Arcs similar to that of Artillery - i.e harassing fire, continuous fire, etc. - or some variation of. It would mean manually keeping an eye on ammo, but I'd imagine it'd be much easier to implement
  5. Immediately! It's just more fun. Human opponents are so unpredictable. Don't worry about losing, I've lost every PBEM battle I've fought against my mate but every one of them has been enjoyable and memorable for one reason or another
  6. Think its the 4th or 5th Russian Campaign mission. My secondary trench is getting overrun every time, that's fine as it's only guarded by 1 infantry squad and a 76mm ATG. Second Trench has the bulk of my forces, 1x T60 4x T34s (2 '43s 2 '41s) - I didn't see the point in taking KV1s as I read the briefing about awesome new German tanks. So I survive until reinforced - 3x T34s 2x 76mm ATGs. But now Gerry gets reinforced, 3x Brummbars and 4x Elefant tanks. What the hell am I supposed to do against them!? I hide my reinforcments in the village whilst the Elefants engage my armour and cut through it like butter. But the AI never storms the Trench, so I never get my side shot from the Village with my reinforcments. Brummbars are bad enough, 100mm frontal armour - but a mere 30mm at the sides. Elefants have 200mm frontal armour, so I tried aiming for the gun and tracks and failed to knock out either I called in my Artillery on the enemy troops to devestating effect, but the IL-2s don't even bother shooting at the Elefants, they just buzz around and then fly away! Poxy flyboys, real men don't fly Anyway, any tips would be appreciated. 200mm frontal armour... I didn't even think the Germans used many Elefants, I was expecting (and fearing) meeting the Panther for the first time, maybe a Tiger, but never this
  7. The only time I'd leave them off Hold Position is when I'm defending - I've seen the AI fall back in a trench network (on its own) and seen individual troops rush at enemy tanks to throw AT Grenades. Unfortunatly, and I know I should stop comparing, but unlike in Close Combat - where you gave the order to hold (Defend / Ambush) and the AI would move if they felt it was appropriate (to get a kill, or to avoid certain death) the AI doesn't do that in ToW, if you tell them to hold they hold until their morale goes. On a side note, I also had problems getting my units to hold in the Demo - my BT7s were quite happy to run amok on the Trenches - but the full game not so. Also, I've noticed that if I have 4 tanks, and 2 are on Hold and 2 aren't, and I select all 4 and click "Hold Position" it DOES NOT make all 4 hold, it'll tell to two that weren't holding to hold, and the two that were holding to stop holding... ...that's alot of holds
  8. heh, so some missions are mirrored? IIRC I did this mission as the Russians... nothing sadder than a knocked out T34
  9. You have to click the "Retreat" order, and they'll reverse quite happily. I've only tried it short distances so far, but it works. Sorry if this has been stated somewhere else, but I've only just discovered it and thought I'd share
  10. I've also noticed it matters where you're aiming for. I had a tank drive right up to its target and I couldn't understand why, so went down to ground level to check and the enemy was on the other side of a slight hill (hull down), and as I was aiming for the bottom my T34 couldn't see it. I stopped him and told him to aim for the turret and he was quite happy to engage immediatly. I dunno about trees and bushes, I've had a mixed bag of results when hiding but I can't say I'm convinced they don't restrict LoS at all.
  11. hmm, my lockups always happen during play - usually after about 15minutes of playing any scenario. Don't have EAX on, will disable Shadows now and retry, ty for the headsup

I read earlier someone said there should be 3 little icons near the Attack button? Top = Turret, Middle = Hull and Bottom = tracks. Also there's Alt+1 2 and 3 for Turret, Hull and Tracks respecively (or something like that, I don't remember the post exactly)
  14. Cool, that'll make it alot easier I havn't played the full game or even the demo, so I don't have the manual, hence lurking around here asking questions that may seem obvious to others
