  1. Dear John_D, I thought of you tonight, watching my tanks get blown away one by one. I was attacking a wood with an inf cie with support. Behind the objective, I had a huge smokescreen and I sent 4 tanks with 2 stug behind the smoke screen to cut any retreat or hit the reinforcements. There was one russian AT gun in the area. First, one of my tank got bogged. Then the AT gun fired one shot at my first tank and knocked it right away. The two other tanks fired 6 or 7 shots at the gun without hitting it once. They were both destroyed within the next 30 seconds by the same AT gun. The 2 stugs were in the back. I sent them right in the smokescreen hoping they could flank the gun. But no. The gun managed to fire into the smokescreen and hit my stug, two shells on each, no misses. And I watch the last stug beeing destroyed over and over. I saw the AT gun turn towards my stug and fire even before pointing at it and hitting it. You do not get beaten by the ennemy, you get beaten by the computer. And trust me, if you switched sides, your AT gun crew would become a bunch of losers and the stugs would roll through all you could throw at them and nail you with one or two shots. I tried it on an other scenario.
  2. I am so impress. It does work. Thanks. Now I can study my map while eating. Good thing I am divorced. My ex would have freaked out to see me plan my battles during supper.
  3. Is it possible to print the maps (or terrain)? Don't tell me to use print screen, it doesn't work. Thanks
  4. Tonight, in CMBB, I tried JasonC tactics with artillery. I aimed at my first objective, a little wood but when my soldaten reached it, there were no russians. So I aimed at the second objective and when I took it, there were no russians. So I moved it to the third objective, another wood. Then the russians attacked me but I pushed them back easily and they withdraw in the little wood that was my third objective with only two minutes before firing. I had a big grin on my face . I used those two minutes to strenghten my positions and machine gun the wood to keep them there. When my artillery opened up, I could hear the shell through the air and the explosions. Unfortunately, all the shells fell half a mile away  on my right flank between me and the russians killing only squirels and birds. Is that normal or is it a flaw in the game? I have to tell you that my FO was still at the starting line. And this is not the first time that I see this.
  5. http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/scenario_details.html?command=search&db=scenarios.db&eqskudatarq=836 Could this be an URL? By the way, I saw five more tanks cross my minefields with no effect but I finally saw a TH get rid of an annoying KV-8 FT.
  6. How do you add a link? I am playing operation: Staraya russia, 3rd SS division fight for survival near the lowat river. Second battle at night. My front is OK from the bridges going left but on the right, I've got russians between my front line(if you can call that a line) and the river. All your advices helped but the mine fields...
  7. Dear Sergei, that was quick. Thanks for the tips. In this operation, I have everything from tank hunter teams up to 50mm but not a lot. I'm with the SS who were stuck in Demiansk, south of Moscow. My infantry consists of pionniers and recon, and not a lot. My strategy is simple, sit tight, don't breath and they'll go away. I have to hold a beachhead across a river and I cannot afford to attack unless I have to defend myself. Thanks
  8. Ok. Thanks to the three of you. I am finally begining to like that game and I have already began to obsess with it. Dear Jason C, you lessons helped me a lot. One thing, in 202. How do you attack with T34 with riders. I tried to rush to the objectives twice and it did not work. The first time, MG42 opened up and my riders jumped off at 600 yards from the objective. The second time, I hit the objectiv with artillery and smoke so I managed to get closer but still, I lost the battle. What is the general idea in such a situation? As far as not shooting is concerned, I still have the same problem. Very often, the enemy will step in an arc of fire and my guys just don't care. Tonight, I had a flamethrower team in the corner of a wood with an arc covering the edge of that wood. "The first russian squad entering here will be toasted" said I. The first russian squad entered the arc then I saw the pink line telling me my team was about to fire. Unfortunately, the russian squad had plenty of time because they killed my tankhunter team that was in the vicinity and before the end of the turn, they killed my flamethrower team who, by the way, did not bother firing. And this happens so often that it is not a surprise anymore. Help me please, I don't know what is going on.
  9. January 1942, I am german. I am facing 15 russian tanks: 2 KV-2, 4 KV-1, 2KV-8 flamethrowing tanks and the rest T-34. Besides the AT50mm that can at least scratch one of those tanks, I have no idea what to do besides holdong my breath. First of all, what do I do with mine fields, not daisychains or anti-personal minefields but anti tank minefields. I have seen around 20 tanks go through them without a scratch. One of them even went back and forth twice in one with no effect. I even took a picture of a KV-2 standing in one and nothing happened. In "a small delay" 4 tanks went right through my minefields and right into my position. That was fun. What about the impressive tank killer teams. Here is their strategy: they'll scare the commander with their submachine gun and when the tank is "buttoned", they go back to their poker game and guess what, before the end of the turn, they're dead. Wanna know a funny story? Once, I was german and I saw a brave russian tank hunter get out of it's trench and run towards my tank and destroy it with a single cocktail molotov. I was so impressed by their courage that I immediately quit the battle and restarted it beeing russian. I ordered my brave little tank hunter to attack the same tank. But that time, they "%$&?* in their pants and did not move until the tank was right on top of them. Finally, they threw one cocktail molotov, two cocktail molotov, three cocktail molotov, one demolition charge, two demolition charge and the little tank went on it's way. Is the AI just smarter than me or just cheating? Antitank rifle. What do you do with them. Put them near a flag, far from the fight. What damage can they do to a tank? Don't get me wrong, I really like that game now but there are things I just don't get. Anybody can help? P.S. Can heavy artillery deal with them?
  10. If I were a soldier using that particular weapon, I would not worry much about the tritium paint on my sight, and a lot more about the tanks I'm aiming at.
  11. Hi. I got your message with two others this morning. That was a very quick reply, thanks. All those replies made me reopen CMBB and try it again. I downloaded all of your russian training exercises but I was wondering if there is something like a guide or brief instructions. I started with 100 and everything went fine until I reached 112. It says: introduces map fire prep bombardments. And a little further: intended lessons - terrain analysis for and timing of planned fires, etc. My question is, what should I be looking for when doing these exercises? Like lesson 102 should have said something like: try to attack the german tank from at least two sides so that one of your tank can attack his flank. But when things get more sophisticated, like in lesson 112, I just don't know what to look for.
  12. I need help. I bought CMBB last year and I just put it back in the drawer after a few weeks. I took it out last month and I am about to put it back in the drawer again. Is it me or is it the game it self. I played two games today and I had to stop before the end because I couldn't take it any more. First game, I am german and I have to attack the zoo in Kharkov. I find out there is a bunch of russian in a little wood between me (I am in a forest) and my first objective. While I line un three SS infantry platoons plus an ingeneer platoon for an attack on that wood I get a support fire from 700 yards by two mg42 and one Panzer IV. While doing this, I plunder the wood with 100 rounds of mortar and when ready to attack by 20-30 rounds of smoke and on the first turn of the attack I hit the immediate rear of the ennemy with what's left. Well those russians must have had their special K that morning because they were full of iron and nothing bothered them. They absolutely did not panic. My guys assaulted their position without even firing a shot. No wonder they got butchered. One of the two mg42 in support jammed wich wasn't a surprise to me. And after 3 turns was still jammed. Funny because I was in the army before (infantry) and trust me, it doesn't take long to clear a jam, we're trained to do it fast. And to make things more pleasant, a T-34 showed up, fire one shot at my PZ IV, hit it without even damaging it but my veteran SS Leibstandarte crew panicked and flew from the scene. That's when I pressed alt A. I did what my tank crew did, panicked and left. It's always the same thing. Your soldier don't fire when they're supposed to. Your mg in support usually do not fire or decide to fire at a target so out of the picture that this ennemy is not even bothering me. Or 3 or 4 enemy tanks will cross a minefield with nothing happening. Or a 75mm AT will fire all it's AP at a single target without hitting it once but that target will destroy my AT gun with one or two shot. My green Tank Killer team will attack a T34 with their MP40. My Tiger gets the order for a fast move of about 600 meters on a road with no more than 50 meters in the open. The jerk will stop in that open long enough to get shot to pieces by those KV it was supposed to flank. I know I don't know much about strategies but I wonder if it's worth learning when I see so many weird things that just don't seems at their places. Soldiers who don't fire while attacking or in self defence? No way. If any one can help, please do. All I want is to learn to play the game. Than I'll learn the strategies.
