  1. I'm methodical once I get into the flow of things and I'm learning patience. I'm also good at creating checkered defences and doing a lot with a single platoon. I'm still iffy on very large and night battles. I understand situations well and take risks when I think the payoff exceeds that which may come from failure. Overall, I'd give myself a B-.
  2. I heard flame throwers suck the oxygen not only out of the air, but also out of the lungs of anyone around the burst. I've also seen pictures of those directly hit by flamethrowers, suffice to say it isn't pretty and there are comments about death being "instant" (which I don't doubt, given the surprised and stiff posture of the victims). Jason, does that log include half-tracks and other lighter-vehicles?
  3. Ah I get it. How big is the explosion? I mean, can the soldiers be relatively close to it so they can make an entrance soon after?
  4. I can already see the enemy reinforcing their doors so these things crinkle up on impact.
  5. Use 'em to make the enemy think they're bigger and badder tanks than they really are (Extreme Fog of War only, of course).
  6. Got a new computer with a X1900XTX Gfx-card and so in-game the lettering and detail is all whited out (unreadable). Is there a way to fiddle with the graphics-settings? I can't seem to find anything. Help much appreciated.
  7. JasonC, wasn't the StuG the most produced German tank of the war? Also, I've never understood the "LL" thing with guns. L/76 and others (I think I got that right).
  8. Yeah, WWII RTS I think was the name. I believe I saw a video in early 2000's, but not exactly sure when. Strange to see it suddenly re-emerge like this.
  9. ^ Yes, but those are possible. I don't think you'll find a CM clip showing a Sherman circling a StuG with a 10meter separation... And I was really hoping Company of Heroes would be a lot like a 3D Close Combat :|
  10. One time there was a squad of five men; I poured artillery, mortars, MG-fire, and finally a bayonet assault on top of them. There were 10-crosses when I finally stumbled upon them...
  11. JasonC, isn't the optimum range for molotovs/demos 29m? Or was that ambushes? For some reason 29m keeps coming back to me ?
  12. Did you guys pick this up from an older game? I remember, a long time ago, seeing a 3D WWII RTS that resembled this one in a lot of ways but have never been able to find out what ever came of it.
  13. Man I wish I could finish my PBEM games, but alas my computer has gone down the crapper. Expecting to get a new one sooner or later, whenever the hell that is, right?
  14. That's a first-person shooter -- completely different realm then the strategy genre.
  15. Well, to start, there was a lot of hate between ideologies alone on the Eastern-front. That by itself can go a long way (and did, as we all know).
  16. I think the MG should be accompanied by some sort of commander.
  17. I'm a little surprised that you were able to advance the way you did. Typically a 'Run' commanded troop who is in mid-sprint then is fired upon will fall apart.
  18. It's a typical mistake. "Could've" sounds a lot like "Could of", of course... Myself, English being my first (and only) language, I see right past it and see it as "Could've" anyway. I can see where the frustration comes from, though.
  19. I used ampulets (sp) to great effect in the "Blitzkrieg" (Barbarossa) campaign. They can take out tanks and tie up infantry.
  20. " as in a real mission, you would not know the actuall locatio of he shooter based only on sound contacts (he might be in the trench, pines, woods, etc. " Yup; which is why I laid down suppressive fire all around the contact. The contact originally showed him out of the trench and to the left; I thought that was "odd" and so just put a 'general area' for my guys to fire until I fully knew where the MG was. Does 111 have the gun facing the right way or...? I kinda wish there'd be some sort of briefing or something telling you what you're doing/practicing. I always have to check back on the site with the downloads.
  21. I beat it on my second try and every try after with zero casualties. All I did was have three of the squads put down area-fire while having a fourth squad 'advance' forward, typically 20m or so. Staggered movement, just like everyone else. Once I knew where the MG was it was all over and eventually it tried to make a run for it or something and was killed instantly. Once you spot the trench you're in good shape. The problem with this scenario is that the MG is just poorly commanded. It's a good lesson about staggered movement, but the problem is that in your typical battle one MG isn't the only problem you're facing (mines, bad terrain, other enemy etc.) and you typically have little idea of where an MG may lay.
