  1. Sorry for my ignorance since I have time for the forum about once every six months. What is CM Helper? Thanks!
  2. I wish I'd read this a week ago, when I had sound contacts all over the place in "December Morning!" (SPOILER) I was all proud of myself reversing out and knocking out a King Tiger that hadn't spotted me at 1200m near the start, thought it was going to be a cake walk, then got bogged down. Need to get home from work and try out some reconnaissance by fire with this!
  3. Hey George, don't get me wrong I love the demo and scenario! I ended up with a total victory. I just had to regroup, and use a different strategy. Luckily the scenario gave me time. Also, despite my griping, the reaction to lasing definitely helps with the scouts who "smoke out" unseen threats, like ATGM teams, and live to mark the ATGMs for artillery strikes and keep on scouting. The demo definitely made me want to get the game, soon as I finish up all WWII campaigns! Great feel for modern warfare, and weapon systems. Now it's time for "a wee cheeky one" from your native land!
  4. Of course their's a chance they're about to get nailed. But to take one example of offense, how do your think Normandy would have gone for the allies if everyone popped smoke and ran back to the boats because someone aimed at them, which is what lasing essentially is? It sounds cold but to win at war everybody just can't pop smoke and run away because somebody is shooting at them let alone just aiming at them. You can't even do bounding overwatch if the guy your overwatching pops smoke and blocks your vision. Anyway it would be nice to have an override to tell 'em sorry you are going over the hill and you are going to rely on your armor, active defense, and superior numbers, and keep moving forward. That's what Patton and Zhukov would want! But, I guess that would be hard to model. So I've got to adapt to how they are going to react in the game and overcome!
  5. Took the offensive with my M1's in the demo scenario and when they topped a rise they all popped smoke and ran away as soon as they detected a laser. Kind of makes it hard to mount an attack. Is there a work around? Ran into the same thing scooting with the Bradley's; took chance they was no time to acquire and fire at them for the short time they'd be exposed on the route but nope, soon as a laser from the sole atom they (I) knew was there lit 'em up they popped smoke and scattered all over the place. Annoying...
  6. Time to find where I filed away CMSF NATO! Anyone have a good map representing the Kurdish controlled areas? The shipments will include 8,000 G36 assault rifles and the same number of G3 rifles, as well as ammunition; 200 Panzerfaust 3 bazookas and 30 long-range MILAN anti-tank systems; and five heavily armored Dingo infantry vehicles.
  7. Maybe, but I'm enjoying it for the first time!
  8. I recently read in "Deathtraps" by Belton Cooper that Patton successfully lobbied to put the Pershing program on backburner and dedicate production to Shermans because he thought tanks should bypass tanks and not go head to head?
  9. Duh'ya, I think so, as soon as I can get to a computer that allows me to download, darn computer security! Thanks!
  10. Is Battlefront willing to publish them in .pdf or allow someone else to do it? They were a great reference! Even if I knew how to do it, I can't find the old disks after my last two moves.
  11. Interesting, I've had them survive multiple 81 hits, even a couple 4.2 and never got close to kill with the 60's, as I would have expected. Lucky shot? I hate to risk the engineers, at least in campaigns, and tend to go with bazooka's on the bunkers, at least until flamethrowers come out!
  12. You're gonna love this, the action square they were in had an outhouse, the squad was set up around it, so I really didn't look at it as an obstruction and I didn't even notice on replay that one second it was there and then it wasn't. They blew the d--- outhouse and then ran off...It must have really stank! Wish I could save that one for posting...
  13. Thanks never had a wall in either CMSF or CMBN fail to blow either, I'll investigate along those lines and report back (or lose guys and/or time charging the street instead!
  14. Hi, I'm playing the Road to Montborg Campaign, Holding Action Scenario. In the one ville there are walls dividing it up. I had a team executing the blast command, attempt to blow a wall (wall, not a building), big blast and crater, but the wall stayed intact. Then the team completed move order by running around the wall into the kill zone they were supposed to be bypassing with the breach. Anyone else noted this? Are some walls unbreachable, bug? Usually I've seen teams stop and blow every obstruction in their path as long as they had charges. This team had one left but still ran around the wall rather than trying to blow it again, not sure what's up. I'd post the save but I have no idea how to do that. Thanks, if there's already a thread on it, sorry I missed and please let me know, thanks.
  15. I like it and the comment concerning on-board mortars. Seems like allowing the motars to spot and call their own fire pattern with a minimal delay would be a way to go.
  16. What drives me nuts is trying to conduct a move in column or out of a column when you first get reenforcements. Even with setting start delays for the vehicles down the line, I' still get them driving into each other and driving all over the place to get around another vehicle, etc. I guess it's probably too hard to make an AI know when it should be road marching, but man, it's time consuming to choreograph one to work properly!
  17. 30 meters is only 100 feet, that's easilly kill radius for just about anything artillery size. But hey, I used to blow this stuff for a living, what do I know! But you make a good point, the size of the shell wasn't mentioned.
  18. I'd experiment with this if my wife gave me enough time on the computer! But, has anyone tried this with a "hide" command? Hide should cause the guys to go down and stay down in their holes, while not having this command would assume that they are regularly exposing themselves to fire or spot. Even four guys might be peaking out of trench at the same time and get nailed by the same shell. It shouldn't happen all the time though.
  19. Interesting ,in the only game with a U.S. halftrack I've played so far the thing never got a shot off. It was getting penetrated and running away too quickly by small arms. I think I went through 3 or 4 .50 gunners. The bullets went in and rattled around a bit, just like Bradley said in "Patton"! I've noticed the AC's don't like to use their 20mm as much as I'd like either, but I've seen it eat up some inf, even scared off a Sherman once. Maybe not willing to use up the ammo in area fire?
  20. I also feel very behind the power curve. I really liked the quality of my steel box. It came through the APO in great shape. I proudly displayed it to my wife, who just smirked at me while watching some reality show like toddlers and tiara's. Now I'm going to go home and kick it. The manual is already on my sh*t list, since I can't read the darn thing, even with reading glasses!
  21. In a way, that's one of the cool things about battlefront, personal responses! They can't afford some customer service goof trained to give you a canned response that ignores your problem or comment. Instead you get a from the heart, "I've just devoted my life for the last few years to this damn thing to make it the best I could with the time and technology available; besides we plan to fix a lot of this, so how can you be so unappreciative?" response. Imagine what you'd get if one wrote nintendo about a problem with some Mario brothers game? At least that's how I temper myself when I find the responses condescending!
  22. I'd like to see the question mark turn into an armor or inf icon once enough info is accrued. I did like those faux tanks signatures running around in CMx1, especially at night!
  23. ISSUE: Anyone else hit impassable doors? On scenarios 2 and 3 in the "road the to ?" campaign, I’ve maneuvered an infantry squad to stay out of the line of fire and enter a building from the back (a barn and house respectively) only to have them fail to enter that way, go around to the front door and directly into the kill zone. Both times I had the turn saved so I replayed it thinking maybe I posted the waypoints wrong or misread a window for a door. Nope, they refused to recognize that the door existed, went around and got slaughtered. I’ve started saving every turn now so I can avoid the suicidal behavior. Also had it occure on a demo charge blown walls. Right next to the breach, but they moved around and used the door when ordered into the building.
  24. Shooting out of the same window more than once is an invatation to get shot - funnel of death. Urban warefare doctine realizes unprepared buildings can be easilly supressed and recommends "bunkerizing" a building, you build shelters within the building out of the furniture to provide extra cover from grenades, etc, and try to dig holes in the walls to observe and shoot out of rather than the window bullet magnets. I haven't tested too much on buildings, but in hindsight, yeah maybe the bullets do penetrate more easilly than they should in certain buildings. I was assuming Normandy was like CMx1, there were hard and soft buildings. That's not the case? Hide commands and cowering should make it hard to get killed or spotted in a building. I haven't noticed spotting to be too out of wack. The guys are harder to spot until they start shooting. Maybe I need to pay more attention to that too!
  25. I'm wondering how hard it would be to code that question mark into becoming a vehicle or inf icon as it solidifies? I had one coming up the road at night and didn't know know whether to deploy one of the only two units nearby covering that flank, a nearby HMG or Tube guy. Moving both would create a huge gap. Of course I went greater threat, moved the tube and had a squad trapped on the roadi by bocage. Tube ran away as ordered! I figure the guys might be able to tell the difference between an engine and a group of troops sneaking up? It can stay the question mark if it's troops pushing a tank with the engine off!
