  1. If you need a Yorkshire accent, I'm your man. I live in the same city your non-Atkinson Mr. Bean came from. Some excerpts from my Bean-like repertoire: "Watch for the damned frogs, 'arper!" "Yer basterd." "So we meet again, mister Bond." "Yer basterd." (Guess the film/TV programmes that contain those... err... lines)
  2. You'll actually find that the rehabilitation of 'native' Taliban fighters into Afghani civilian life is starting to show itself as an uncomfortable truth when finding a solution to the situation. Afghanistan is not a black and white conflict, from what I can make out. The complex tribal and factional relationships at play are like shifting sands. Force of arms will not win alone. A resolution of the opium trade for instance, has to be part of the solution - burning the only income people have will push them straight into the arms of the Taliban. Some have suggested we should buy the crop and sell it on the legal (medicinal) opium market. Foreign, non-Afghani fighters aside, many of the Afghani Taliban foot soldiers are illiterate pawns of the warlords - fighting because they are getting paid to fight rather than any ideological motivation. I suspect a more hearts and minds solution will be required there. Reconstruction (or more accurately 'construction', given the state of Afghanistan as a 'country') will play a major part in doing that. As for dancing on the graves of dead Taliban? I'll leave that to the soldiers doing the killing, as it is their perogative to deal with the aftermath as they like. I won't lose any sleep when one of the Talibaddies buys the (poppy) farm, but I'll smile bemusedly at the armchair-bound zealots over here, who seem to have more bloodlust than many of the lads doing the killing (and dying).
  3. There is no Yorkshire accent. Which surprised and disappointed in equal measure. Where's Sean Bean when you need him?
  4. Wow thanks Schrullenhaft for going to the effort of looking into this! I tried the NVidia chipset package and it sorted the problem! Now showing 2.1 OpenGL compatibility. Yay! Now I can learn how to play CMSF before the British module comes out.
  5. I don't think there is any need to apologise to us. At the end of the day, we hadn't paid for a product and it sounds like you did your level best to bring CMC to life. It was a fantastic vision. I hope life after CMC is more fruitful and enjoyable for you.
  6. No, the system was a clean install just before Christmas and I don't have anything really running on it that sounds like that. Is CMAK OpenGL? Because I had that running a few weeks ago with no problems. I think that was under the Omega drivers. Incidentally, I originally tried the catalyst drivers to try and rectify a problem I was having with a shuddering scroll movement in internet explorer and a crashing google chrome. It is starting to look like something went wrong at that point. Maybe a fresh install is the only option?
  7. Thanks for the help. I originally had the last Omega drivers, but they are very old, so I un-installed those and used the genuine Catalyst 9.1 drivers. This did not resolve the problem, so I tried the very latest 9.2 version. No luck there, so I un-installed and tried 8.12, 8.11 and 8.10. At this point I decided there was something very wrong and decided to post here. The same error message is given and the diagnostic software reports OpenGL v1.1. It's almost as if there is a system problem deep down in the OS? I hate computers.
  8. Hi - I've done many searches across the net and on here and have tried just about everything I can think of. Can anyone help? Basically, OpenGL fails to initialise on game launch. Using OpenGL Extensions Viewer, it says I only have 1.1 installed. I tried installing the latest drivers but to no avail (including driver cleaner after de-install). I tried 4 different driver sets but with no result - and all should have at least 2.1 functionality. Incidentally, I can't get my AGP card to have fast-write - not sure this is relevant? My machine: Athlon64 4000+ 2GB RAM X1950 Pro AGP card 512MB MSI K8N Neo2 mobo 500GB HD WinXP Pro SP3 DirectX 9.0c I'm pulling my hair out at this one - and pretty annoyed I wasted 3-4 hours trying to resolve it! Thanks.
  9. I'm surprised the Taleban don't have any SAM capability - afterall it was the introduction of the stinger that helped increase the Russian casualties back in the 80s. I guess the supply of these weapons has been held in a choke-hold since 2001, and such weapons are a first-world sophisticated product, unlike small arms etc.
  10. In terms of Taleban ambushes, didn't the French lose 12-13 soldiers in one such encounter recently? I hear credible rumours that they ran out of ammunition, however.
  11. Mastiffs are used in Afghanistan for fire support, in the same way the weapons carrier Landy was used. It's a shame they aren't modelled for such scenarios, but I guess you can't have everything!
  12. Is the Military channel documentary on in the UK? Can't seem to find any reference to it. The Ross Kemp series is good - he does make me cringe sometimes with his attempts to 'fit in' with the squaddies. Fair play to him for risking his life to give a portrayal of the battle out there. A better series, if you ask me, is the Doctor and Nurses at War series on ITV - follows TA medics (NHS surgeons, nurses and doctors in their 'real life') at Camp Bastion and on the MERC chopper. Some of the stuff they have to do is pretty gut - and heart - wrenching. The number of civilian casualties is surprisingly high - especially children.
  13. Great work guys. Really excited about this one! I love how this opens up the CMBB experience - can't wait to give it a try!
  14. Thanks for the updates Moon. I've been lurking watching for updates for the last couple of years... praying that this game would be completed. I find the attitude of some people strange - as if the dev team have been directly paid by them and are reneging on contractual obligations. Seems very stressful to be that obsessive. "Lighten up, Francis."
