  1. Chelt: Yes, and its most awful. Who ever invented that was clearly working for the "other side".
  2. I come here to read about different tanks and then read the word FRUCHTREIS ! *runs away to the horizon in fear* Brought some home one day, nobody wanted to try it, even our dog did not touch it and she ate about everything else on this planet. The Hartkekse I actually liked to chew out on manouvre.
  3. I've been to Houffalize in the nineties and shot lots of pics on the "tiny detail", the Panther G there as I'm a scale modeler, too .
  4. With that setup you should not need to optimise anything. Should eat all known games for breakfast .
  5. I won it after about ten tries. Placed the AT guns to the extreme right rear of the area. Targeted only the Pz IIIs. When the second wave came I beat them too but more because I was lucky as you have no time to do some smart positioning of the guns. I was not satisfied though. It felt gamey and not as a tactical achievement but rather as a shootout with a high luck factor. Have no intention to ever try that mission again.
  6. G-17 S-12 U-18 P-17 O-17 Sound is a bit feeble like IL2 sound engine in general, some things like tanks moving deliberately despite different orders I don't like. Would like to give fire arcs like in the later CC series. Also would like to see more soldiers to duck passively or run away and enemy tanks to back up under well sitting fire - bit more morale showings. However I have to get into TOW deeper before I can give a fair and final rating.
  7. Yes, good catch. I noticed that as well and loved it. Also the firewood stash near one of the sheds. TOW looks like a 3D diorama sometimes.
  8. Martin, maybe thats the clue as the graphic card got replaced in January and makes a rather big difference to my former 6600 in most all other applications so I was expecting the same here. Will try to do a bit more tweaking but ultimately go for more RAM as soon as I can .
  9. I cracked that mission finally after about seven hair pulling attempts. Kept the PAKs on the right rear edge of the deployment zone with reserve crew. That way not all tanks see you from the beginning. Was still hairy but I succeeded and won the second half too, albeit very close.
  10. P4 3.06 Ghz 1 GB DDR2 RAM GF 7600 GT 1152x864, mostly on medium settings. Training missions run okay, bit on the low side, Seelow mission gets unplayable when player gets reinforcements. Just ran FRAPS and have around 20 fps, seldom more in attack and defence training missions. I have the full Il2 series including 1946 (fan from the first day) and play that fully maxed apart from highest water setting and get extremely fluid performance. I have not yet done everything to tweak but IMHO there is a ressource hog somewhere, maybe not even applying to every system? Looks strange when one tank and 4 soldiers are in view and I get 18 fps... And yes, fps count doesn't really belong into tactical gaming and I'm okay as long something is fluid, but its comparatively slow on my machine measured against other simulations and games.
  11. My forces look the same at the end of this scenario This mission is a bit too much for my box, too. Gets close to unplayable but I haven't fully tweaked yet and think there might be some more fps to gain. Interesting nevertheless.
  12. 42 and from germany here. Coming from table top and later board gaming (Squad Leader) and being interested in realistic tactical gaming as long as I can think. My first PC game 10 years ago was actually Steel Panthers. Also deeply interested in historical flight sims and scale modeling.
  13. Good explanation and good asessment of the players frustration which has been built up formerly over all those years. I am following this title from the first announcement (I ignore these RTS "clickfests" although they all have very nice graphics these days) and can sit tight just a little longer
