  1. Have you tried any of the hot keys? I think "F" is the one for retreat.
  2. Just for the sake of interest: Who won the british para single mission on hard, and how? With inadequate troops I have to take 3 bridges. As I cautiously advance a few yards two SdKfz 251 with some grenadiers shoot me to pieces. Funny to be wiped out after two minutes gameplay without cover . Scrambling my few survivors (machine gunners always fall first - unwritten TOW law) I get some tanks, one of them an oldtimer, a Matilda - in 1944! I flank the positions and finally take the bridges without tank loss. So I am told to take the small village. As I go about things get wild. I get another para squad coming from the west which gets wiped as it passes an undetected PAK and then three Panthers come over me with lighting speed and shoot my crap tanks apart  . I pass two more minutes watching my little men die in confusion and then its thankfully over. Not that I ever gonna play this mission again - but did someone beat it? PS: I know that everyone now thinks I can't play - but never in ten years has a tactical game given me such problems. I can stand to loose and don't need to win every time but I don't even want to start the mission again. It feels like FPS where from time to time there is a level where you are about to die dozens of times until you finally make it by chance.
  3. Maybe one of our russian brothers can give us an opinion or two
  4. That makes sense as to the results. I have however just made a little experiment and found that "defend" makes my troops a little more eager to fight back on defensive (I shamefully never thought about that button before and only placed them and told to hold). Yes, while graphically old and with its own quirks I remember that a well placed MG in CC decided an outcome and could hold off a platoon. Came out more to what one reads in the books.
  5. Egon: Thanks for your patience with me. Yes this works ! I used to try with Strg +V and the mouse. Glad that I don't have to type it all anymore.
  6. Egon, that's exactly what does NOT work with the editor on my system and I am sure this is a problem of my machine. But how can I attend to this? Copy and paste works every where else so it has me looking dumb.
  7. Not sure if I use infantry on the defensive correctly. Would love to hear some ideas. Case in point: Single Mission Mortain (US) I place my men into the built up areas and set them to "hold". In a later wave german infantry attacks and throws grenades at my men. My men do exactly nothing apart from the occasional shot. By the time I have chosen grenades on single men they get showered from the emey and die. Remember, meanwhile the tank battle rages on with me unable to attend as I vainly baby sit... Another example: My infantry prone in line gets charged by a enemy squad. This surely should end up lopsided as the advancing enemy shortly kneel down, shoot, and then go on. A lying squad which sees them coming should make mince meat of them with few if any losses. Nevertheless my squad (any nation) of prone men often looses about 4-5 from about 10 when 10-15 enemy are attacking. I don't know if I am a victim of delusions but should not a lying down squad (small target, stable shooting position) with even a lmg with free vision mow down their enemy, especially coming over a ridge with minimal or zero own losses?
  8. A somewhat bizarre but minor problem here: The mission editor will not accept copying and pasting. A bit tiresome. Every other application will. I'm on XP fully patched. Some pointers what I could do, search for?
  9. Thanks for your interesting post. Seeing the video its a very impressive tool. Reminded me a lttle of a video about the Cryengine2 map editor presentation. Hearing of a full map editor I was expecting to see something about reworking bw images or such for height maps with an image editor. Getting something like a full grown 3D WYSIWYG editor I find fascinating. Looking forward to this and all the improvements and fixes.
  10. Like to know about that, too. My PC was just a hairs width from getting a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick after a particular gamey situation where a Jagdpanzr IV with Radar and laser sighting eradicated every GI with a Bazooka from every angle, and only them. Sent guys to pick the Bazookas up - got eradicated. Too funny. For a short while.
  11. Thanks Slaphappy. I was hoping for something in the Editor being a non programmer. However I might have a look at your tip later.
  12. Is it generally spoken possible to randomise enemy units composition? Example: A trigger which calls in enemy reinforcements could contain 2 heavy or four light tanks. Enemy could either get another AT gun or two infantry squads based on some random factor. I saw something like this in the old "Flying Corps" by Rowan flight sim editor. You could set a probability for either a flight of fighters, bombers or Recce aircraft and some numerical randomness. Makes replay more interesting. Also would be interested if a randomisation for different locations is possible, e. g. enemy attacking from the left OR the right. Inquiring mind wants to know .
  13. I'm also dabbling with the editor on a basic level. I have placed tanks in Army2 like I did infantry and they shoot and even drive forward a little for a better view, then return to their spawnpoint, kind of defending it. No trigger yet. Have you added "backpacks" to tanks? They contain the ammo load and at first I left them off because I did not think tanks need "backpacks" and they wont shoot. Also give them crews. I forgot about that too in my first mission and cursed the editor .
  14. Yeah, think about the mess when GodfleshNL can't hold it anymore ...
  15. I think Katjuscha and Nebelwerfer would be overkill for the size of engagements we usually have here. I also think this is not the greatest game ever made in human history. Who knows what will come in the future? But I agree that T28 and T35 would be nice if somewhat limited additions to the tank park .
  16. Finished the mission on medium difficulty. Was not easy but by doing my interpretation of what was written here I suceeded. Next Mission after that is another mission from hell. Also switched to medium difficulty after five tries. Now at the Ardennes mission, first on hard to see if I make it through.
  17. Thank you for letting us know, Madmatt.
  18. Tolrak, have you checked: a) that your best gunner is behind the Pak's sight? Often the AI places an inferior man as gunner and the best man handles the ammo ... For tanks this is the same. that for some reason the crew fires HE ? I had that happening once or twice, I think. Only asking because I think the Pak 38 (5cm) does okay with the T 34. Please ignore if these things are known to you. Don't forget, the T34 and KW1 were shocking for the german army. One of my grandfathers held them in high respect. Just reading a book about the Panzertruppe and the early german tanks had nothing to laugh with these steel monsters. They had to go in to about 200-400 meters and win the flank with the short 5cm L42 PzIII. About the same as the M4's later had to do with the Tigers. One thing however the game does not replicate is the T34 turret was easily jammed by even small calibres if one believes veterans testimonies.
  19. What would do infantry good would be some lower walls. Not as high as now but about breast high or a bit lower so that you can shoot standing or kneeling from behind and you could have hard cover AND be a small target. Also a CM like "move to contact" order would be good for the little guys. At the moment they move to death without going for cover. If there was a squad logic which said, "most mates are already mown down, better stop running this direction" it would help a lot or maybe a squad moral value should kick in. Another thing I have to investigate further is that sometimes experienced/ elite tank crew seem equally adept with their small arms and fight your own infantry with their rifles and sub machine guns with deadly accuracy over quite big distances ?! I lost three adept rifle guys engaging one Antonio Banderas pistolero over a distance of about 50 meters ...
  20. So this is more than just barrel hits which can't be that common. Thanks for clearing up Sneaksie. I still have it happening quite often even on big tanks but maybe my engagement distances are too short. Have to play some more . Some small doubts stay. Maybe the AI gunners hit this area slightly too well on high experience levels? Maybe the damage model area for some guns is slightly too big? I also understand that trying to balance out might lead to much worse results and I don't like balancing in historical games. In the ideal world you would feed a physics engine (flight sim or tank sim) with the right numbers and get right results. On the other hand, factors such as good small unit wireless communication and better visibility in say, german tank cupolas are certainly hard to reproduce convincingly at all.
  21. Thanks for answering R33GZ. Will try your approach and report back.
  22. I like the ability to choose which area of a target to hit. Historically the knowledge of weak spots was often used by gunners. I also like how detailed the damage system is. But Freeboy has a good point. Gun damaging hits are much too frequent. I have seen the occasional photo of a damaged or pierced gun tube. But in TOW it happens in every battle. That IS wrong.
  23. Can someone please help me how to go about this strange mission? Two attempts so far and losing interest quickly. Strange because I laughed hard as none of all my Panzerfaust and Panzerschreck boys hit anything  . My anti-tank grenade guys jump out of their trenches and run circles around enemy tanks before dying gracefully . My foolish try to make an ambush did not leave an impression on the enemy and a Scout Car began to fire even before my men which were waiting silently in cover of some houses. A M24 required several hits from a Pak 40 to die while in reality one would go straight through front to back and my Panther and Tiger were destroyed by a laser sighted M36 Jackson with the first shot . Some of the 8 german missions so far were quite okay but Dunkirk was far out and this one earns a medal for laughs.
