  1. I'm just about to start a Meeting Engagement QB (large map 4500 points), and I have been given the Axis. So far I have had no experience of a battle of this size, so I just wanted to ask a few questions about unit purchasing: 1) Should I purchase a whole battalion formation 'as is', or is it far better to use a 'combined arms' approach and delete a few companies to add specialised single units and vehicles? 2) When purchasing vehicles such as tanks should I attach them as individual units to my existing battalion, or add them as a completely separate formation? What are the advantages/disadvantages of the two approaches. 3) What is the main difference between panzer grenadiers and fusiliers, in game terms? 4) Any other purchasing advice for a large battle would be helpful. I hope that my questions are not considered as cheating - I'm just overwhelmed by the purchasing choices. Thanks.
  2. If true, then it seems like a big thing for BFC to miss.
  3. That's one hell of a result - well done. Your opponent has some serious explaining to do ;-)
  4. I think many players consider running units into the objective zone at the last second to be bad form. It's tempting, I know, but you wont make any friends doing it.
  5. They work great at night when vision is limited.
  6. I agree that it should be an option for the scenario designer that a player can gain points for buddy aid.
  7. There are some good gaming clubs such as: http://www.theblitz.org/ You should be able to find a game there. H2HH is Human to Human Helper. A great little app that automates PBEM turns. It's a MUST HAVE. (I'd give you a game, but for technical reasons I am not running 1.10)
  8. Personally, I don't believe that the scenario size in the description should be left to the scenario designer. It just becomes too subjective. The game should calculate the size based on the number of units the designer has included.
  9. It's been nearly 3 weeks since the announcement that CMSF will be ported to the Mac. No sign of the option to pre-order yet... I suppose CMTouch has slowed things down.
  10. I've noticed that as soon as squads dismount a vehicle they lose access to the vehicle's radio. It seems reasonable to me that dismounted rifle squads who remain near to their radio-equipped vehicle should receive some limited (or intermittent) contact with their HQ unit. What's the current thinking on this? Ooops - my hand slipped whilst writing the thread title.
  11. Interesting posts. I'm going to try a few of those ideas out. One other issue - scouts don't have radios and therefore it is hard for them to pass information up the chain of command once they move forward - any tips?
  12. Yes I see - but not much good if you are scouting forward towards enemy lines.
  13. Is there a way to achieve 'only fire when fired upon' in CMBN? I have tried using 360 degree cover arcs for my scouts to stop them firing when scouting, but then they don't defend themselves if they are attacked. Is there a way around this?
  14. What is this 'vanilla' the people keep referring to? Personally, I like vanilla ice cream, but I doubt that this has any bearing on CMBN.
  15. I wasn't paying particular attention to the rankings but lately I have been scouring Blitz for an opponent and I happened to notice your name - probably because I am a cat lover. Mind you - I like the way the ladder rewards you to playing the game (whether you win or lose). I'd be really pleased to give you a game when you have the time - it's not easy finding players who still run 1.0.1.
  16. Thanks for that info. I hope that CM Touch encourages my brother-in-law to give CMBN another chance.
  17. Aha - I have noticed you on the Blitz ladder. Your name stuck out. I think you are the highest non-ranked player on the ladder at the moment. Yes - please do check in when you have the time.
  18. I encouraged my brother-in-law to buy CMBN (in fact he bought both Mac and PC versions after finding his Mac Book Air too slow), but he is struggling to gets to grips with the game. Would CM Touch make for a more gentle introduction into the world of Combat Mission? Or are the missions just as tough as in CMBN?
  19. I'm sure it's real - I don't think a respected company like BFC would want to risk their reputation by advertising fake products... even if it is just for a laugh.
  20. I had a chat with Phil when discussing the problem to see if I could get BFC to release a small patch to fix these issues ASAP. Phil explained that it wasn't quite that simple and estimated that the next full patch would be released in about 8-12 weeks time. BFC seem very busy at the moment with the release of CMTOUCH and the forthcoming Shock Force on Mac that I can't see that the patch will be out any time soon. I wonder if the loss in graphics quality was anything to do with the decision to include much larger scenarios? i.e. reprogramming the game to cope with many more units on-screen.
  21. The blockhead problem has been fixed but the patch wont be released for a couple of months yet. Do you also have a ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card?
  22. Good job. Shame BFC didn't provide unique placeholders for CW icons.
  23. It's a great little application - really makes PBEM a joy. I'd be happy to play you but I am running 1.0.1 and I imagine you are using the latest version of CMBN.
