Looking for Over The Reich and Achtung Spitfire!!
Member # 16622 replied to Goragg's topic in General Discussion Forum
Indeed. GOG simply rocks. They sell the games the perfect way - cheap and no DRM. Without DRM all the MODs tend to work on their game versions, unlike other older games resellers. Can't hurt to drop an email to them about the games. -
Olympics; Phelps going for the Medal Record
Member # 16622 replied to Mord's topic in General Discussion Forum
Like Boris already said, it's not really a fair comparison. For javelin thrower for example, 8 olympic gold medals would mean getting to olympics everytime for 28 years, getting to finals and winning it every time. Swimming medals are seriously inflated. His achievement is great but doesn't really make him the greatest Olympian in history. -
They had been staging on the border on 'exercise' for awhile. Georgians agreed to the cease fire, but resumed fighting as South Ossetians kept the fire up on border. As Georgians returned fire, Russian had the pretext to move in. Seems planned pretty old school way.. And like Viljuri said in the other board, expect Russian claims of genocide soon as additional reason for them to come in. Of course, they have their 'citizens' to defend too. Those citizens just happen to be Ossetians who been given the citizenships during the last years. Will the Russians stop at South Ossetia or not? Atleast according to OSCE Georgian side has been very willing to start talks about cease fire, while Ossetians has refused all initiatives. Not that Georgians seem to have cared much about collateral damage on their attack yesterday..

Well if it's not even planned to be released in US, I wouldn't consider downloading it there a big deal. Personally, I'd rather download it for free with torrents than pay some pirate/mafia-douchebag for someone else's work, if those two were the only options. Besides, after downloading, you can always buy the movie if it comes properly available in your area.

Excellent, looking forward for the game.

I'm going to bet that in 3 months, we'll still be betting what that announcement will be.

The lack of communication is unbelievable. I understand if they have hit difficulties that make the whole project uncertain. Which prevents them from making 'official' announcements in either direction. But it definetly doesn't explain the TOTAL silence. Even a post, "I'm/We are still here, but cannot really discuss the project at the moment. We will make announcement/update as soon as possible", would be better than this ghost town. I'd guess the rest of the developers (Hunter) have jumped the ship too, like his partner and there's some sort of legal conflict with them and BFC. I mean, c'mon, if the thing would be still developed and it's future uncertain, any developer still on the project would be here telling atleast something - "I can confirm it's not dead yet". Software projects fail now and then, but this is just a failure cascade with the communications.

Anyone tried mailing Hunter for an update ?

BUYER BEWARE...you may have overpaid!
Member # 16622 replied to aleader's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Sounds like envy to me. Anyhow, on topic - I preordered the game, but from Play for just 20e. Not too expensive but I have to wait for couple of patches to see if it was worth it. Oh and the "You have no right to complain about prices or product value, just get better paying jobs" was hilarius line of argument, thanks for the laughs. -

Well, even preorder for CMSF via Play.com was just 20€, delivered. The current price of 8€, delivered, is quite amazing. Seems to be pretty straighforward to see what to do when the WWII version comes out. -

Quickly checked a game 'backup' site and seems it's been cracked since first days of august. -
8800GTX here too, with intel dual core, XP. Game runs, it's just too slow for what it should be.

Did piracy kill the commercial viability of CMx1?

Offtopic but get Sam & Max, Season 1. Huge amount of modern adventure goodness. As good as the classics of the genre. Google it. -
Gamespots crappy 4.5 review..
Member # 16622 replied to Dredloc's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
The thing I'd like to see answered, Steve, is the release schedule ? Why was it put out now, what happened to "it's done when it's done" ? Paradox pressure ? Need of cash infusion ? Or was the game so complete in your and testers eyes that best way to get it forward was to test it on the bazillion different mixes of hardware the customers have? I know you guys will patch it up eventually but the pre-release hype had no mention whatsoever that it's still work in progress. Perhaps if you'd been more forward with it, "This isn't done yet, you'll get to play it while we keep working on it, but expect some clitches", the moaning would have been lighter? I know all your previous games needed patching and kept evolving, but IIRC the bugs weren't really this bad even with CMBO. -

Spot on. CMSF should have stayed in development for quite awhile still. Sales would have been better too, as the reviews wouldn't have been so harsh. I guess BFC knew it, I don't think they pushed it out prematurely just for the hell of it. They obviously needed the cash injection. -
