  1. I suggest that you should place pauses within each movement of your scout teams. Well that is what i do and my men seem to be able to spot better.

Also you would be better having a look at Bil Hardenbergers site for tips. You could start by having a read of the this topic

    this one is on recon

ps it may also have something to do with the level you are playing at vet/elite etc on how much info you are getting.

If this is rubbish advice, i am sure someone else will come along and put us both right :)

  2. I'd like to see the smoke from destroyed vehicles be more billowing (rather than a rather wispy straight up and down appearance) with the ability to block LOS. And, what about a kindling option (setting fire to a building) so that smoke can be generated to provide concealment when smoke grenades are exhausted or not present.

That practically straight up funnel of dark smoke from vehicles is a pet hate of mine.

  3. I wish I could say it was intentional and skullduggery, but it was sheer dumb blind luck. Its one of those things you discover by accident. There are a lot of things you just "find out" along the way.

I think it also helps if you have what they call in the NFL " A cornerback mentality" You often get burned no matter how good you you cover a wide receiver, but you have to have a short memory and forget about it and move on.

I just lost a very close game-one of many I've lost and I just pretty much wiped it out of my memory-although I'll remember some of the salient points I learned along the way.

As for our game-me thinks you're a bit short on infantry (paras) than you'd like ;), but what's left is still dangerous.

As for my pixeltroops they are now going about their new found sport of "tank plinking"

Ha ha I am giving nothing away good buddy ;)

  4. I'm playing Green Hell as the Americans against an opponent. I had to give my medium and heavy MGs covered arc commands to stop them from shooting at distant tanks and exposing their positions from return fire. Just make sure you don't forget about it when you need them to open up.

I also put most of my units in hide mode as they could be spotted at distance. When my opponent closed in I wondered why they weren't returning fire. I then realized they were hiding and turned off the hide command.

They caught a bunch of advancing German paras and cut them down. Seems like using hide carefully you can spring some nasty ambushes.

You shall pay for that bit of skullduggery Mr db_zero ;)

  5. Eh? Bagration is generally considered to be the start of the Soviet summer 1944 campaign, and it began on June 22, 1944. Or the 21st, if you count the early infiltrations of the German lines by leading Soviet units as the start of the operation. This campaign started in Vitebsk, and ended at the gates of Warsaw; a distance of over 500km. So the East Front game covers the entire campaign, from start to finish.

If you're asking why it's set so late in the war, I don't have any special insight into BFC's thought processes, but I conjecture that one of the major reasons lies in the simple fact that the German TOEs and units for Summer & Fall 1944 were already completed for CMBN, so it's the easiest "crossover" point for moving to the East Front. Starting somewhere else would take substantially more time. You can have Bagration sooner, or something else much later.

As for those concerned about the Germans being a pushover at this point in the war, I wouldn't fret your pretty little heads over it too much. It's certainly true that on the operational scale and up the Germans were pretty much completely outfought by the Soviets from mid-1944 on. But on CM's tactical level there were plenty of fights were the Germans gave as good as they got, or better.

I should of phrased it better.. so late in the Eastern War

  6. I am fairly new to Combat Missions and its unique style of play. I have been dipping in and out for some time and can now after a few hours of reading up on effective tactics get some decisive victorys all be it in Basic Training mode. I would love to try this stuff out in a HTH (PBME) game but have never done so and have no idea how it works apart from looking at some AAR on YouTube.

So if anyone fancy s a game i would love to try. I have CMBN MG CW

I will give you a game UKMule..Make sure you download and install H2HH and dropbox. You will get dropbox by accepting a shared file i send you as we start the game. I will need a valid email address to start with though

H2HH 2.10.7 version can be found below..you want the one that says.....h2h-helper-2.10.7.zip

  7. Para - Only typing and selecting from some drop down menus. No maths required. No more than a minute once you get the hang of it. Most selections are drop down menu boxes where you simply select what's appropriate for that battle. A few cells like like the casualty section you simply type the numbers from the AAR screen at the end of each battle. Close the work book and reopen when you've finished entering the results for the workbook to auto-calculate and populate everything.

(Read me is included in the dload).

I think even i could do that. Excellent, i shall get this later and thank you for your efforts in creating this :)
