  1. Being Scots means you do have the following emotions: Dour sullen Nae bad However, not all on the same day.
  2. That's me your talking about! A one time in CMx1 I had 50+ PBEM on the go, now I have a huge 2 and struggle to play them. Growing kids, promotion at work, more deployments are just a few to name. However, I'm definitely in the CM2 camp, I haven't played a CM1 game since the year after SF came out. If only they would include some infantry squad formations I'd be a happy man.
  3. I just got it free on app store, hurry, hurry before they put the price up.
  4. Thanks for the detailed explanation, not having the game I was under the misconception that they were squads.
  5. And yet surely there has to be a balance between real life tactics and game limitations? If the games unable to represent the reality of a bigger Italian squad because of the size of the action spots, then perhaps allowing those squads to be broken down into something that fits within the games limitation makes gaming a wee bit more equal? I often had this problem with the Syrians in CMSF where the game tries to stick tactically to real life but the engine just can't produce real life. After all, there would have been many occasions where Italian squads were split down into less that squad level and if the game mechanics aren't able to replicate the actual situation, why not have the ability. After all those than don't want to split don't have to.
  6. I'm not faulting anyone, I actually like the idea of being able to keep my games current and as I don't plan to buy the Italy game I will save my pennies for a CMBN upgrade. I just want to understand the new approach and try to keep gaming with my regular opponents. And not al of my opponents will get exactly the same games, modules and packages and so it will be tricky working out what to play. Not insurmountable though. As for a mid life update to each title, then it will be down to the individual to decide when and if they can afford to do it with every game every time. I imagine 2 or 3 years from now with perhaps 3 or 4 titles out it might be difficult to choose which ones to upgrade. Of course it all depends on pricing. Updating 4 titles at say $20 and buying a new module wouldn't be cheap. That said I've had more than my money's worth out of CMBN so far. Cheers
  7. So do you always plan to upgrade an existing game mid life? Do I expect to get a base game and one module and then upgrade to get the other modules? If that was the case it seems like the best thing to do was wait for an upgrade before purchasing the base game. Well if you could wait. SO, I have no interest in Italy, can I expect a Version 2 CMBN before the end of the year?
  8. This is how I understand the whole new process. Please feel free to correct me if Ive got anything wrong and the examples I will be using are purely made up by me. I own base CMBN and CW Module. 1. So before I can buy a MG (Market Garden) Module I will need to upgrade my game to version 2? 2. Buying CMFI (Fortress Italy) will give me a version 2 version of that game only and WILL not upgrade my existing version of the CM engine? The CM engine is the version and the games are not. 3. BF then bring out what they are calling various packages. If I install the Flamethrower package and the German Paratrooper package I can easily play them in single player. If I want to play an opponent using these packages, then he has to purchase them as well. If he does not have them then the game files will be incompatible. The above is how I understand the new system. So in future, before playing an opponent I would need to ascertain: 1. What version of the game he is running. 2. What packages he has installed. This would be very important in a QB as I wouldn’t want to go through the choosing forces stage only to find out he cant run the packages. I wonder how easy it would be for BF to implement the following: Packages: When new packages are released release them as a patch to everybody. However, to be able to use them you have to buy them. This would mean that everyone could play every scenario but only those who bought them could initiate them. So if I didn’t buy the flamethrower package I couldn’t pick it in a QB but my opponent could and I would see it in our game. You never know, it might even encourage him to buy it after seeing it being used on him.
  9. Just a quickie regarding packs. As someone who plays almost exclusively multiplayer, do all of my opponents have to own the same packs to play? I can see this all getting very confusing in the style of some other games out there that can almost be unplayable due to the amount of Mods available or differing versions. Im all for as much content as possible but the games seem to be heading directly along the single player path right now. However, I do realise that this is where the money lies as the majority of CM is played by this method. Will there still be patches to games or will this method be replaced with an upgrade only?
  10. If that's the case and I don't doubt it is, then why bother announcing anything at all until your ready? Your argument is sort of self cancelling.
  11. The AI seems to know where Ive set my troops up in a QB every time, well almost every time. Does it have to blast you with Arty in the set up zone in almost every QB? If it were a human Id be calling it a gamey bastage......
  12. I think I mentioned this when the game originally came out. This is one of the best scenarios, and Maps for CMBN. If you like this one and have CW, try CW-first Clash by the same author, George McEwan. Cheers
  13. No. Just this one game. If I play up to the same point in WEGO single player everything works fine.
  14. Playing the above scenario, everything going fine until the US Army reinforcements arrive. Then when I do my moves and hit go, the game crashes every time. PBEM and I have my opponents turn if someone needs it. This has now happened in two separate PBEM this week. Cheers
  15. And very nice it is too, especially in conjunction with Bens Camo Mod. I have a nostalgia thingy for the Turtle as when I joined we were issued the Mk5 which isnt very different. I dont think I got the more modern Brit helmet until 1993.
  16. Can you choose only to have the Turtle style helmets for ALL of your force?
  17. Juju Id just like to add my appreciation to for taking the time to make this Mod. There are some Mods I can do without and there are some Mods that just make things look a wee bit nicer. In my opinion your Mod is an essential part of the game and looks the way I think BF should have made it. I would honestly pay for it if it was offered as DLC as I think it enhances the game immensely. So much so that I almost cant play the new Module simply because of the green weapon icons. Thanks again for all of your hard work.
  18. While I totally agree with you about this, I also think that the future could bring some automatic PBEM. Which essentially means that the game would tell you when it's received a turn as well as receiving an email notification etc. Not sure how easy this would be to implement but other games manage it.
  19. This mat chess something I had yesterday. One of my mortarmen left the team and ran into the corner of the map. The results were much the same as your screenshot. Try and track him down running to a corner. My guy eventually tried to come back but was so tired he had to crawl. I don't think it affected the mortar team, not sure though.
  20. This is where I dont understand you. I moderate a forum where guys who stay within the rules of the forum can post away, much like any other forum on the web. Should I come to you and ask if a poster at GS is allowed to stay? Is GS Stormfront, er no it isnt. Do a couple of guys not like CM, or even yourself? Yes, undoubtedly. Are you tainting a whole site because a couple of guys you dont like are posting there? Yes you are. Does it do you or your game any good to do this, of course it doesnt. Do you claim that a whole site is full of nutters every time someone doesnt like CM? Or is it just one guy in particular that gets to you? I get it Steve that you need to paint your game and your company in the best of lights, I would to. But at the same time you should acknowledge that labelling a whole site and forum as psychotic because you dont personally like one or two of the posters is way off the mark. I agree that certain posters can be a royal pain in the arse at times but I'd rather address them on an individual basis than collectively. Finally, the Gamesquad CM forum has the whole spectrum of CM user, ranging from the unapologetic lover, to the unapologetic hater and I will allow everyone from both sides a place at the table regardless of whatever tone it supposedly sets as long as they abide by the rules of the site. I think most people will then make up their own minds as to who the nutters are or aren't. Cheers
  21. As the moderator of the 'Hate Forum' I would like to point out that the majority of the posters, including several Beta testers of this game actually quite like the game. What you are actually referring to are one or two guys who will most likely never take to CMBN in any form. So actually everything you said was pretty way off the mark. In fact, your obsession with Mr Dorosh is pretty wierd in my opinion. Perhaps you should concentrate on making a good game even better rather than labelling an entire site as psychotic because you happen to have an obsession about one poster. Seems like talking about mental illness can cut both ways. Cheers
  22. Oh, I did forget about a pet peeve of mine though.... Please BF can you do something about Vehicle crews carrying out the vehicle orders once the vehicle is destroyed. Its become a real pain in the arse. Cats chasing dogs, my Pumas knock out 3 US greyhound. A while later some more show up, but at the same time all these crews start running by my Pumas, who immediately start to turn and fire on the crews, exposing their flanks to the new Greyhound threat. Is there anything to be done about this gamey AI tactic?
  23. Try giving them a really short arc of fire. They still may be spotted though!
  24. I left CM-1 behind quite some time ago and followed BF into CMSF and CMA, both decent titles that are worth a look in my opinion. By the time I got to CMBN I was well used to the new UI and the new feel of the game. I think that CMBN is better than CM-1 games in almost every respect. I do think the scale is reduced but, I never did like playing huge games. Im not a fan of the Campaign system, seeing it as simply a group of scenarios very loosely linked together. I do like the RT play, never though I would but after 4 years its my preferred way to play now, unless the games really big. Sure the games content is limited right now but that will improve as we see new modules arrive (Brit one by Xmas?). In time I will have as much, if not more variety than was available in CMBO. I like the new graphics, although I find them a wee bit cartoony for some reason and I like 1-1 representation, even though the infantry model isnt ideal. Although regarding that Im satisfied by Steves explanation of where its at right now and how difficult it would be to make it more realistic (formations, immediate action drills etc). Even if I had a PC to play CM-1 games on now, I doubt I ever would again and while CMBN isnt perfect its a fine game that will Im sure continue to improve. So yes, Im enjoying it.
