It's still hit and miss and the AI doesn't know what real time period weapons are ie, Sherman tank, but you can get some ok stuff, the engines regularly ad a fifth finger, and other strange things but it is getting really good, I personally would never try to pass off a AI image as real but AI does have it's place, in illustrating images for articles and blogs etc...
I made a set of British Infantry from WW1...

Look at that expression and fear...

    Getting movement...

Again the face of what is about to happen...

Make the viewer think how bad it must have been????

But the AI really shines for me in producing images from another age, before photography existed?????

    Viking warlord...

    First Punic war...

    And on a lighter note..

    Guess who?

So the quality of the AI images is in the prompts the better the prompt the better the image, love or hate it it is here to stay.... Very scary on a grand scale and this is just the beginning?

slysniper got a reaction from A Canadian Cat - was IanL in Reflexions upon MG and light mortars effectiveness
Why Mg's were valued over the light mortar is seen in the game in my opinion.
The light mortars are great when you can direct fire them on a target of importance to you that needs removed.
But with the limited access to the ammo and units. there effectiveness is short lived.
Whereas, Mgs normally have large supplies of Ammo, and can maintain a dangerous presence for along time and control areas of the battlefield, where as the mortars cannot.

This would have been true in real battle also, but just more enhanced  when on offensive operations. exspecially since real combat dragged out much longer  than in cm.
But you also get the benefit of not having to take on mortars in defencive positions with large caches of ammo supplies either

Not sure where you get that thought from. But the quickest way to get a responce is to do a ticket, yes he is quick to respond to any request there if he is awake and near his device.
I have never seen a issue getting help when needed. Other than it is one guy that monitors it, thus timing can be a issue because of normal life issues.
Where as, he is not monitoring here.

There is good comments here about flamethrowers as to how they work in the game.
As pointed out, generally, if you have them on defence and can set them up where the line of sight is also limited. Like dence woods. They can spring a nasty suprise on the enemy.
On offence as pointed out, very hard to get them in the correct  location without being killed.
What might be important to note is. If you can get them to fire on enemy infantry, its almost a gareentee to kill them or at least break them and make them panic and run.
So I have found with breaking the enemy. You do not need to hit them to get the break and panic. just need a near miss to get that result.
So you can area fire and get that result if its next to the enemy.
So on offence, you might be able to not move into line of sight, but move into a spot where they cannot see you and you cannot see them. But you can still area fire into the action square next to them. which will do the job sometimes without being shot down. Also because of their great inaccuraccy, they might actually hit the target and then get you a gareenteed great result.

I enjoyed it.  Working with small units is so much more challenging because you have no margin for error.  Losing a vehicle transporting a squad could mean losing ten percent of your combat force in a single blow!
I do tend to think that, when all is said and done, the Syrians have a decided edge here.  There are chunks of the US setup area that can be under Syrian observation from Turn One.  A clever Syrian commander who knows this can position rockets and tanks to strike a critical blow against the Americans within the first minute or two of the game.  I think that should be masked a little better.

they activate the switch on that gamers program which adds unpredictable events in their game just to irritate them all the more.
We can see who has had their switch activated here.

He sent me this when my little border collie died....
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten year old Irish wolfhound, named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa and their little boy Shane were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.
I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog. Ron and Lisa told me that they thought it would be good for the four year old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few moments, Belker slipped away peacefully. The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion.
We sat together for a while after Belker’s death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.” Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I had never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, “People are born so that they learn how to live a good life – like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The four year old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

But in the real world, and with all the massive amount of data that these games require, yes, you are correct, a few things are wrong and incorrect.
But that attitude that if perfection isnt there, you have the right to act and say they have made no real efforts.
Go fix yourself and your attitude, because there is way more imperfection there that what you see in these games.

Some great advice has been given.
And as we all have had to learn we were not great  leaders when we started playing the game,
All those skills we think we have until this game proves us wrong early on. Spoken as someone that also was a excellent ASL player and found it lacked a lot of the skills needed to be of help in this game. Also an ex-marine, which helped me much more at playing this game but I still had to learn to apply many things I had been taught but had never really used in real life, but to some extent, I do get to use in the game.
So be patient and start trying to learn from your mistakes, and yes , you are not using your armor correctly.
Never play with the concept that your steel is your defence and you invincible and that will help you alot. It does not matter you have that advantage, use tactics that dont require seeing rounds bounce off your armor.
Set up a test map. make markers on it at 400, 600, 800, 1000 yards then select the tanks you want to test against each other and run the test a few times at each range.
I set up 5 or 10 tanks on each side, I have maps that have lanes so each tank can only see one enemy tank. Anyway, you will get results very quickly as to the odds and the distances that are effective. And in truth the numbers are very realistic to real world results. Not only will you learn what to expect, but you will also know when you have had a unlucky result because of the results.

Posting this now, likely start date will be Christmas or the New years.
Its a tournament that has you playing 5 (approx. 30 minute scenarios) that no one has seen or played before and which they cannot access the files (so truly blind).
The tournament has lasted 9 to 11 months in the past.
The battles can be very challenging and you likely might be using units you would not see in QB format games.
Three battles are ready at this point and I can say, two of them could be nighmares for some players.

So if you are ready for a real challenge, sign up at that site. keep in mind other tournaments and commitments you might have. I know a steam tournament if coming soon, so dont over commit yourself .
But I have a group of players that just love the format I have come up with and we hope to see new players now that we are going to WW2 instead of just the modern stuff I have run in the past.

Make sure to review the rules below as to what you can expect in this tournament.
Get over to The few good men web site and get signed on.

    General Rules:

Looking for players that are committed and mature enough to complete what they start and grown up enough to play through battles that might be hard on ones ego since you might be on the brutal end of an enemies attack. In three tournaments hoisted in the past. I find all players are not, and they either fade away or I remove them. (They are not allowed in any further events I run. So don’t bother to waste your or my time if you are someone that is going to fall into that category.

Please read through these rules and make sure you are willing to abide by them.

    1. A dropbox folder is to be maintained with an invite to the Tournament master (Slysniper), this will provide me access to the game files if for any reason we need to replace a player or verify slow play issues.

Please name the dropbox files in a method that I can tell who is playing who

Example: ( Match 1 Jtimo vs grunt )

    2. Game files can stay in the dropbox folder and not be deleted until I have copied them and I will remove them.

Or you can have the normal auto remove on but at some point I might pull them from achieve, copy them and then remove them once more.

    3. No surrender at any time is allowed, if you want to end a game early, then use cease fire with both players agreeing to those terms, if one player wants to play on instead, allow him to do so until he is satisfied. It is in your own best interest to put up the best fight you can no matter what, throughout the whole battle (No one wants to be that guy that has the best score posted against him)

Also, some battles can be very one sided, so it’s not the point about if you are losing or not. It’s about the point as to not lose as bad as the other players playing the same side in the tournament.

    4. If for any reason a player needs to drop out of game play, just contact me and let me know of your intentions and I will make sure any non-completed game will be finished for your opponent.

    5. If pre-planned arty or air is available, you are allowed to use it. I will likely make sure the opponent will know that option is out there to possible be used against him in that battle.

In my tournament, if it’s available. You can release hell on turn one or however you want to use it.

Since there is at times no way for you to know where the enemy set up areas are since these are truly blind battles, it’s a risk reward decision in battles where I feel unit placement is not a given and you are taking a risk to use it in such a method.

You might guess right and hit the enemy or miss. Then there is the targets that are logical, so both sides should expect such tactics at possible locations.

    6. If there is a problem with slow play by any participant, I will invite them to be dismissed from the tournament and will complete any unfinished game as necessary. (Slow play will be determined to be less than 5 Turns an week) exceptions allowed for vacations and trips and such as long as your opponent and myself are informed in advanced.

Do not bother to join if your only method is to try and play all your turns in one or two days of the week, that likely will not work with many of your opponents.

    7. All battle have set time finishes, no variable endings are done in this Tournament format All games will be compared to each other playing the same amount of time. If by chance a setting is missed. Both players will cease fire at the expected end time of the scenario and then inform me of the issue.

    8. Any additional questions, just post them here and they will be addressed.

    9. And remember to have Fun, which is what it should be about

    Scoring Format

The format is you will be given a selected force. Your mission will be to do the best you can with the situation you have been given and the scoring will be given out to the top 50 percent from each side of the battle.

So in other words, your side could be very challenging, but perform better than 50 percent of the players playing that side of the battle and you have won and will be given a point value as to how you have done.

Winners will get a score of somewhere between 80 to 100 points per match depending on how they have performed to each other. So best player will receive 100 points, lowest winner will receive 80 points, and everyone else is somewhere in between.

Scoring in scenarios will be your score minus your opponents score (as to how you will be selected for the top 50%).

Each round you will be in charge of a different Nations forces, so skill with all forces will be a factor. As well as both offensive and defensive skills

Battles are designed generally to be short and intense ( I have been keeping all battles at 30 minutes or less so far generally.)

If you are new to this, go review previous tournaments as to how this works if you have any question

The driver is on his own to get out of there it appears, the commander at no point shows up  as to the fact the reversing was going to be a option.

Battles are designed generally to be short and intense ( I have been keeping all battles at 30 minutes or less so far generally.)

    Ok, bridge design and weights.
Here in the US, bridges are designed to handle the load of the heavest item that generally is going over it. That is a 18 Wheeler, a standard truck loaded is 40 Tons. but keep in mind, that is over the full lenght of the truck with so much weight on each axil. Also, part of the design is that you have to design it for bumber to bumper traffic, So when someone says a 50 ton bridge. it is a simple term used to reflect that if you are driving something 50 tons in weight, the bridge is designed for it in the worst case situation. Like bumper to bumper trucks all weighing in at 50 tons.
Plus engineering design has built in safety factors also included. Plus some engineers pad their design numbers even more.
So what I am saying to the non-engineer. If you drive a 60 Ton tank over a 40 ton bridge. And you did it one at a time, its likely no problem at all, even with Russians making the bridge poorly.
The fun part of it is, if the bridge is long, the numbers jump to it not being a issue at all. The only bridges likely to collapse is real short small ones since you would be getting close to maxing out the load of all the traffic it was designed for.
Another reason a tank is a chalenge is all that load is in a small area, somewhat of a point load, that is where the bridge might lack the design for it.
But I know of truckers running loads off the books up to 80 Tons and managing to get from point A to B and crossing many of a bridge.
So yes, a bridge can take way more load than a posted  call out that is there for traffic.

The average load of grain we ship/recieve here at work, in Canada, is in the 40 metric tonnes range. In order to meet the 6,000,000 metric tonnes a month it works out to 5,000 truckloads of grain to be moved every single day.
The new and modern rail cars here hold 100 metric tonnes. The new modern grain handling facilities are being setup to accommodate trains of 134 cars in length with load/unload times of 12 hours per train. This means with the most modern equipment and facilities, 15 trains need to be loaded and leave Ukraine every day. If they are using systems designed 30 years ago, it becomes 20 trains a day. If facilities are any older, the three "modern" elevators around me were all built in the sixties, then it will be closer to 40 trains. Of course this all assumes everything is going to work perfectly without any maintenance issues.
If you are lucky enough to live in a location with a lawn, it is not too late to rip up some grass and plant some vegetables.

years of comments and it is what it is, if the coding could have changed more it likely would have.
When a CMX3 engines comes out, I am sure it will take a different approach to it to some extent.
I just hope we all like it when it happens, because change has a funny way of not pleasing everyone.

the replacement of MBTs by UGVs is inevitable because the ability to do a straight swap is conceptually simple.  What to do about IFVs, on the other hand, is less clear.
I see infantry having to be dispersed, the future is likely the exoskeletons concepts that are coming for each man. The ability to make a soldier independent and mobile but able to carry added needed items, weather weaponry or protective armor.
A unit of such soldiers would likely still need an armored unit to carry additional supplies, so not so much as a transport for them, more as a mobile support base for them when they are in the field.
The things of science fiction in the past are soon to become reality, for sure this is farther out than UGV's but change happens much quicker now than it once did, when the need arises.

They already exist.  They might also exist in really good tactical wargames for professionals to figure out how to best utilize them.
I kind of figured that was what was happening, what a war game can do is provide a way to test out possible ways to see what might be the best method to use new weaponry at a low cost until they can do testing and purchasing of real items.

This is the next big deal in ground warfare.  Militaries speak of capabilities that have the ability to be "force multipliers".  Drones are whatever is better than a force multiplier.
For sure what we are seeing in the present conflict.

    Thanks for sharing.
Just the view of one man, but one man who is seeing it first hand.
warfare is always been how to outsmart the enemy, been that way from the first time someone killed his enemy by sneaking up on him and clubbing him to death from his backside.
basic logic should tell you that, putting oneself in a slow moving, large target piece of equipment, that is noisy and hard to hide is not a way to outsmart your enemy in todays world. Unless tanks can be equipped with defenses that can defeat all weaponry that can be used against them, they are obsolete.
At least UGV's will provide safety to some extent to the crew or man that controls it, the equipment might not last long, but the person trained to use it will last hopefully longer and will be able to get a another replacement piece of equipment to replace it since it should be easier to increase the quantities of what can be supplied.
