  1. Whoah thats alot of contrast there... Sure seems the game would be suited to an all infantry battle. I wouldnt mind seeing for example a Hurtgeon forest minicamp that focussed on that. Dont get me wrong the tanks are coolest but just for variety a gruntfest would be interesting. heck you can even pass ammo from one guy to another in this game.
  2. well I'll buy the game when I beat the demo.
  3. as the subject says, wondering if ranges are realistic or scaled back proportionally. There are advantages to engaging at max ranges. Also entity line of site. Can they see 700+m on a clear day or is it like COH where tanks disappear at 200m. thanks
  4. Thats great actually IMO. I know positioning squadies in other games was an irritant. Was wondering if its much of a factor here, you know the old squad LMG not in position factor. Or did you mean you have a choice to actually move the single individual soldier or by squad by clicking the leader. thanks for the replies, [ January 01, 2007, 11:52 AM: Message edited by: gundolf ]
  5. I've sifted thru threads and watched a dozen u tube movies trying to peg how infantry is modelled. Are the squads represented in an abstract manner? How many men represent the squad. I saw several running around a winter trench, not sure if this was a single squad or not. Although tank crew seems to be represented as 4 individuals. Noticed guns are crewed by 2 soldiers. Not sure if that means the squadies are abstractly played as well. Would really be interested on knowing more about infantry in this game. thanks
  6. Variable timer control would solve this problem, things get heated ahead 1/4 please. Actually varialbe speed and time compression would be preferred to actually pausing and ordering.
  7. Its the era of tanks makes this sim unique. So don't stop in the Balkans. Include M60A3 and Chiefpig tanks too. Heck call it Warsaw pact 78-82 so a ficticious WWIII scenario could be played out. See I got your add-on planned already. Seriously though go all the way with this forgotten generation of tanks.
  8. Harv, the description below from the faq clearly states you are playing the part of a BSA mercenary in the Krajinja. Yeah its just a game with a stretch in story lines to mesh it together. We don't flinch 60 years later playing WW2 games. Viet Nam games are starting to become popular now. Not my intent to troll. ....Smack in the middle between units of the former Yugoslav People’s Army, Serb militia forces, Croat Catholics and Bosnian Moslems in a civil war that knows no right and wrong, the RDO takes on a multitude of tasks and missions throughout the game’s campaign. Beginning with the discovery of an intact T-34-85 tank left behind by the Croats, and after quickly scrounging ammo and some volunteers, the 18 campaign missions take the player into the Serb Krajina hills and mountains, defending Serbian villages and supply lines, protecting river crossings or a power plant, assaulting an enemy artillery battery or enemy supply convoys, or even rescuing Serb commando teams conducting operations behind enemy lines....
  9. So we have Bosnian Serb Army T 72. All these things did in the Balkans was belch plumes of black smoke and shell schools. There were no pitched tank battles, Just mobile T72 artillery platforms at the most. What the heck do you plan on simulating with this? Maybe running over civilians in Bihac? You can't make a T-72 simulator for the Balkans. Its Ludicrous. Certainly redundant as tank action was unbalanced to say the least. Yeah sure the Muslim factions may have had a T-34s but these were shuffled by flat car rail and barely ran. This has got to be a joke right? If not then you better include Canadian TUV Tow missle launchers as these killed as many T-55s as the HVO did.
  10. The balkans was not a conventional war and I would expect to see a lot of unconventional weapons. The Yaks had a lot of improvised AT. My favourite was this finned rifle grenade that had a fuse that actually had to be lit by hand before fired. Apparently they had limited success against the BSA with this. Also Gebirg kanone from ww2 little 75 igs placed on Kbusses and such.
  11. Late 1944, Germany Fusiliers are (somewhat mobile) Reserve light infantry regiments replacing recon regiments simply because regular organic recon regiments had to be integrated with heer divisional line units, shortage of man power and all. They are modelled very much like heer mountain regiments in structure and arms. The counter unit to the fusilier is the volksgrenadier: Less mobile but better equipped.
  12. Seriously. Design a 180m map in the editor with houses and such. And duke it out with 15 snipers aside. The snipers representing riflemen ofcourse. The funny thing is, this game works at this scale too. And it is refreshing seeing one man representing...yep one man. Don't knock it til you try it. We need more single soldier squads for this kind of play, some individual one man smg, LMG individuals and so on. Its too bad this is hard coded and can't be modded. Hey devs, hows about some more 1 man squads in the next installment? Makes for some pretty good multiplayer matches.
  13. I think this is the logical next step. Some things will need to be worked out. As it is now, at present scale, people may forget to move that crucial corps into Borneo while concentrating too much attention on Alaska. Moves will be missed. So the world map would have to be zoomed into halves. A western front and an Eastern front. Each front would be equal to the scale of SC as it is now. East would contain Japan/Eastern Russia and West US. West Front would be Euro/Russo/Atlantic. Moving troops from one front to another by an exit zone. Something like that.
  14. 2 questions about infantry graphics Do partisan's have a unique look to them or are they generic to the country of orgin. and Does infantry change with tech levels? For example do the sprites appear to be holding Pz fausts and wear camo as they get into the higher levels. The tanks and planes change, was wondering if the grunts do too.
  15. Ed P. The units could easily hold copenhagen until the ruskis enter the war. Well worth the sacrifice. The german player usually deverts armour from his france campaign. This causes Paris to still be Held by the allies when the Russians enter the war. The Axis is finished. France has enough units to hold, and a Brit Army and a Corps isnt going to contribute much in france. Plus the mpps come in handy.
  16. The initial Carriers are instrumental in the British invasion of Denmark. While the Germans are messing around in Poland, and France is Holding the maginot send the brit BBs and AC to Denmark. Surround it with your boats and pound the lone Danish Corps. Then with your carriers just hanging back strike. You need two brit or canadian amphibious units landed next to Copenhagen. These two units will invade and easily defend the skinny peninsula with the help of the CVA cap. Eventually they will have to retreat. But this will save France and delay the invasion of the low countries.
  17. thanks. I'll follow yours advice. I played as allies to get a look from the otherside. I won by End 42. Held Paris at all costs. Then got Russian tanks to zoom to France and relieve the siege. Never used the USA. Didn't need them. Now back to the Axis.
  18. I'm playing from the polish campaign as the Germans. I believe I have a good grasp of HQ bonus, and entrenchment factors and so forth. I set US to random history. Well I defeat Norway to France OK, gain italy and the adriatic countries, become embroiled in a slugfest in russia. The most I can do is take Odessa and hold Konigsburg but that is it. Then by 1942 the US storms the beaches. I usually beat them back but it is enough to break the mate on the East front. I cant seem to sea lion england. Their Navy intercepts me, I cant afford AFs as all my money goes into tanks for the East front. Just like history I suppose.
  19. I created a scenario that only offers multi player, I can't seem to find an option to play against the computer. Not sure where to turn that off. Single player is not offered. Only PBEM and TCIP. If I play as allied it will offer single player. But as Axis it only shows Hotseat pebem tcpip. [ October 31, 2004, 11:50 AM: Message edited by: gundolf ]
  20. Dieppe. A good indication that an allied invasion would need alot of preparation to succeed. First blunder, Montbatten yanks naval support, Churchill doesn't want to risk his Belfast cruiser. So they have air support right. Well that got scaled back. Now enter Monty. Monty says " well if you aint got naval support, or air support for a seaborne invasion, then you gotta land everything in one single wave...tanks and all!" Thats great Monty, but if you land everything in a single wave forget about aborting the mission, because there's nobody left to abort. Thus sealed the fate of a Canadian Brigade and a handful of Commandos and Rangers in august of 42. so no, the allies were not ready for an invasion for a long time to come. As for shortening the war later on, yeah, Bradley could have bypassed the Hurtgeon forest altogether, this bought the time needed for the German's to launch their Bulge offensive. The Hurtgeon was a waste of resources and time. And played into the German's hands.
  21. ah ya... but not rostered as individuals in the task force, is where I'm coming from. ie. to create "soldiers at war" scale battles. no matter. my question was answered thanks.
  22. thanks for the reply. Ive been playing with just snipers and discovered the game engine works at this level very well. Too bad some SMG and LMG individuals were not included in the roster. Perhaps in a future addon? I would think this would be of little effort to include.
  23. sorry I was not explicit I think. I meant mods that create new units consisting of just one soldier, so each squad is actually only one guy like soldiers at war. thanks
