  1. i guess some of the younger memebers never saw empire strikes back!
  2. i would really question how those tanks can see you at such ranges. there must be something else going on.
  3. i have never seen any red dots. what are you guys talking about?
  4. well its true. the average front line soldier that went into russia, were told they were liberating the russian people from their communist oppressors. most of them believed it. as you would suspect, the front line guys had no idea what was being discussed and planned in berlin.
  5. i imagine the brummbar is pretty short on ammo, compared to the gun. i always try to buy one of the guns, just for the sheer havoc it creates. sometimes it gets alot of kills, other times maybe not. i recall once i had a 150mm gun that killed almost 200 enemy infantry. if i buy a mobile one, it would likely be an open top one, because it wont come out until i have the situation in hand, and it will just sit on a hill top and pelt HE at the fleeing british...uh, enemy.
  6. my new wife asked me yesterday, when i will lose interest in this game. uhhh, when the the next version comes out?
  7. forget it. WW2, or i wont buy it. period.
  8. "1) the cost a lot 2) they can die from MG fire 3) they are spotted very easily." 1) they cost a little less, but have more ammo. its called a trade off. 2)IF the (H)MG's fire, they will most likely fire at one of the many infantry units that is throwing grenades at the defenders (which is when my HT's become exposed. 3)who cares by that point, i can see him too. and he is running away from all the explosions and death. remember they have also suffered mortar, mg fire, and arty, for 15-20 minutes. the HT's are just icing, a further encouragement to bugger off. it depends on the type of engagement, and i have been playing setups like mr undead just mentioned. hilly, mechanized inf, combined arms...and letting the puter pick my stuff. the computer picks these type of HT's, so u should use em'. i think the rule of thumb here, would be that u should wait until he is fairly beaten down, and and u have used up your other resources.
  9. i played close combat for alot of years, especially cc3, on the zone. i was very highly ranked at one time, but it was not that large a community. i was Der_Fuhrer. one day, the management at msn banned me, said something about an offensive name. bastards.
  10. im living in china, and im from canada. i havnt been back there in years, so i have to get all my games here, or have them brought to me by mates. my friend from england brought me cmak, i installed it, and ignored it for a couple of months because i didnt understand it. i played victoria instead. if any of you know that game, you know it has a hell of a learning curve. anyway, i was bored one day, and decided to really have a go at one of the scenarios. cant recall the name, but it was in afrika, and i had 4 psw 222, a a 120mm FO, some inf, and a tiger comes in a few turns later with some more inf. I havent even thought about another game in months now. i admit, i was put off my the graphics at first, but it looks alot better in motion, when u pass your turn, but most gamers are not patient enough to get even that far. it takes alot of thinking to place your units, and you have to know exactly what they all do, how to use them etc. its easy for us, cause we are all wargamers from way way back, and we know the difference between a tiger and a marder. further more, we actually care. that makes us a rare breed indeed. i agree its a pity the game sells for so cheap.
  11. You guys made alot of good points so far, but no one has mentioned the other kinds of halftracks carrying mortars, or 20mm, or other guns. I have been playing QB's and letting the computer buy my units, and i get these kind of things alot. The computer will buy companies or battalions that have these as organic support. I tend to use them in a similar fashion to what has already been stated. Near the end of a fight, or what i feel is a turning point in the battle, when i think all enemy tanks, and AT guns have been destroyed, i will move them out of cover to harrass the retreating enemy. on a good day, such HT units will rack up impressive kill numbers. AFAIK, HT units with inf guns or 20mm have far more ammo than their tank bourne versions. I think the Panzer II carries around 60 rounds of 20mm, and the HT has well over 100. As some one else also already mentioned, a Grille, or other such mobile artillery coming over the hill with the support HT's is very useful too. Any remaining infantry units will be further encouraged to run away, lest they be blown to bits.
  12. dead men, dont shoot. i like to keep em all alive, and make sure they all deliver their ammo. usually works. if you are out of ammo, and still alive, its likely you have won.
  13. interesting thread. i like to read other people AAR's. i'm in a fight right now and i have 8 FT units. one of them set fire to a house (on my order) that was in some woods, in order to provide fire and smoke cover, and another just anhilated a crack british inf squad. actually, i have been having alot of luck with the flamethrowers lately. i need to find some way to post a screen shot or two. ive seen a few of my FT units kill light AVF such as stuarts, run up to suppressed inf, and burn them all out. there is another interesting thread about FT's though.
  14. In any battles where i know the enemy has had air support, the planes never seemed to attack my tanks, unless his ground troops could see them. in one particulat battle however, some plane straffed my group of trucks lingering in the rear, behind a huge hill, and could not be seen at all. i believe that plane bombed and missed my tanks, and probably wanted to get the higher kill chance for the trucks. it got 3 out of 4 of them. missed the fourth one due to trucks movement (on road). i rarely buy air support due to its unpredictable nature, but am thinking about including some AA unit now. recommendations?
  15. i have some great screen shots of my tanks coming out of smoke, and killing shermans. i dont usually need to cover the infantry, but you might want to sometimes.
  16. thats exactly the sort of info i was after. great! THANKS GUYS!
  17. i noticed that with the flags. i set up a few battles and ended up coming short of the objectives for lack of time. a bit frustrating knowing i have the troops positioned to take them. i didnt know the flags would be so far into the enemy's area. i was just reading the manual about static and dynamic (?) flags. the dynamic flag variable would make for a very interesting fight. i also wanted to know about the point spread, and other differences though. the reason i was reading the manual was because i was looking for info about the colored lines you see in the games. sometimes its yellow, and i was wondering exactly what that means, but i could find no reference.
  18. i have an nvidia card, and attacked a small village under cover of fog the other day. nice fog, but made spotting more difficult.
  19. this may sound like a silly question, but thought it would be faster to ask you guys. when i set up a qb, whats the difference between axis attack, probe, assault? i know in a meeting eng. we would have an equal point split, but whats the differences with the above modes? i noticed in a 1500 point attack, i got 2250 points, i think.
