Two of WW2s Greatest Tank Aces Compared
Vulture-suc4 replied to Colonel J Lee's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
I would echo some of the other comments that I thought the article was biased, and some areas factually incorrect. Without tearing the whole thing to pieces, I would like to pick up on one aspect regarding the Panther "Tanks excel based on balance: the Panther had superior firepower, good armour protection, and poor mobility. That's not balance." That is not correct. What it should have said was: Superior Firepower, good armour protection, good mobility, some design flaws which effected reliability. The Panther had excellent mobility and was far better at traversing over soft ground than almost all US and UK tanks. In addition it provided a better quality of ride. The suspension design imposed a greater maintenance and repair burden compared with allied vehicles, plus the final drive connection to the front sprockets was not man enough for the job. The time of year, intensity of operations and crew quality dictated whether these aspects became significant. By way of an afterthought, on the subject of the Tiger II, again it had very good mobility, but as the final drives were the same as the Panthers, it was even less reliable in this aspect. Vulture -
Spears I would agree that the forums are getting quieter, but there are still plenty people out there playing. In May I started a new tournament The Relief Of Bastogne' I thought between 20 and 30 players might participate, but it has proved more popular that... Currently 70 players are taking part ! CM is still going strong IMHO Strength and honour ! Vulture

If you wish to join in you would of course be very welcome. Vulture

I play on the Blitz as well, you can always get some good games there. Vulture -
Nakalai If your looking for opponents, try some of the on-line CM clubs, the Blitz for example. http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/list.php?f=4 Cheers Vulture

David I Just thought I'd drop by and say, 'nice job' I'm probably going to run my next campaign using CMAK-ETO, and possibly the next club v club tournament I'm imminently about to organise. You will of course be invited along to both (as an honoured guest), when details are firmed up. Cheers Vulture [ June 03, 2005, 08:27 AM: Message edited by: Vulture-suc4 ]

New player - damn pillboxes!
Vulture-suc4 replied to DaveDash's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
Dave Whilst playing against the AI, the real beauty of this game lies in the ability to play PBEM (or TCP-IP should you so desire) against other human opponents. Would strongly recommend you visit/join one of the on-line wargaming clubs that have Blitz ladders where tournaments and campaigns are run. This is one awesome game. I'l still playing CMBO daily 4 years after I got it. Enjoy Vulture -
Guys I'm running a cross club CMAK Armoured (Team) Joust between the Blitz, Few Good Men, Band Of Brothers, Warfare HQ and CMHQ PL. (120 players participating) If you have a spare moment, drop by my site to see how the respective teams are doing at the mid point in the tournament. http://www.667.hab.dsl.pipex.com/Wargaming/CM/2004-Armoured-Joust-CMAK/2004-Armoured-Joust-CMAK-Homepage.html Cheers Vulture

Lots of people still play CMBO out in the on-line clubs such as the Blitz, Band Of Brothers and Warfare HQ. Myself although I have the other games CMBO inspite of the drawbacks still does it for me over the other 2. Just finished running a knockout tournament a couple of months ago which had 36 players in it, an Armoured Joust between 4 clubs with 84 players last month, and I have a 20 person campaign ongoing at the moment. CMBO will not be dying anytime in the near future I think. Strength and honour ! Vulture

2004 CMAK (Infantry) KNOCKOUT TOURNAMENT
Vulture-suc4 replied to Vulture-suc4's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
The current position is as follows: All players who expressed an interest have been sent an E-Mail: 1. Advising that with 64 players there will be six knockout rounds and that the tournament is likely to take year to complete (assuming you make it through to the last round (chuckle)). 2. Asking them to confirm that they still wish to proceed. Thus far we have had 4 players who have withdrawn and about a dozen replies are still outstanding. Three replacements have been found, so we still have one space at the moment. (I have your confirmation that you wish to play) I will be working out the draw today, and uploading it onto the site Wednesday. The tournament is due to start as scheduled on Friday 29 Oct. I shall send an E-Mail out to all the players formally announcing the fact on that day. Until then get some practice in on the map, and work out what your ideal force mix is. Cheers Vulture
