  1. I've gotten the program to work with an NVidia GeForce FX 5200. I am having a problem with the American campaign. On the first mission the game quits just as I am about to win. This happened on a Dell XPS 710 with NVidia GTX 8800 and an HP Pavilion with the above mentioned GeForce card. I am not sure if it is a bug in the scenario/campaign or a problem with a setting. The game play up to the end is fantastic though. Its just a bit frustrating not being able to progress further.
  2. I was running the game on my work computer (HP with NVidia FX5200) and it was nice. Now that I just got my XPS with NVidia 8800 GTX - wow. Supurb! This game has a steep strategic learning curve and a very shallow interface one. I love it. I expect to be entertained a long time by this game.
  3. I pretty much will be listening to the Team America soundtrack when I am playing this. As for one song that really captures the spirit of the fighting in Iraq and Afganistan? "Down in it" by Nine Inch Nails. The refrain, "I was up above it, now I'm down in it," resonates to the constant use of helicopters in those places. Any other meaning you can read into it yourself. ----------------------------------------------- Going down in it [2] Kinda like a cloud I was up way up in the sky And I was feeling some feelings you wouldn't believe Sometimes I don't believe them myself And I decided I was never coming down Just then a tiny little dot Caught my eye it was just about too small to see But I watched it way too long It was pulling me down I was up above it [2] Now I'm down in it I was up above it [2] Now I'm down in it Shut up! So what, what does it matter now? I was swimming in the haze now I crawl on the ground And everything I never liked about you is kinda seeping into me Try to laugh about it now but isn't it funny how everything works out "I guess the joke's on me," she said I was up above it [2] Now I'm down in it I was up above it [2] Now I'm down in it I used to be so big and strong! I used to know my right from wrong! I used to never be afraid! I used to be somebody! I used to have something inside! Now just this whole that's open wide! I used to want it all! I used to be somebody.. I'll cross my heart I'll hope to die But the needle's already in my eye And all the world's weight is on my back And I don't even know why What I used to think was me Is just a fading memory I looked him right in the eye and said "Goodbye" I was up above it [2] Now I'm down in it [2] I was up above it [2] Now I'm down in it I was up above it [2] Now I'm down in it I was up above it Rain rain go away come again some other day [4x] I was up above it [2] Now I'm down in it ... I was up above it Now I'm down in it
  4. Sounds like a good addition to the new CM engine they are working on. Is there a forum were one can post suggestions for the next engine? I have a few myself. Motorcylce troops Horses/cavalry More VP variables (victory can be viewed differently by objectives.) Disabled or Imobilized Vehicles at start re-crewing abandoned vehicles/guns Better looking streams and rivers Better looking marsh Hyperlinks in battle summary (http, mailto, etc.) T-28 and T-35 tanks!!! SdKfz 232 Ability for crew to un-disable and re-mobilize vehicles (maybe just for scenarios - I have a few that would require this type of feature.) Multi-Player network play. 4x4 would be amazing. Anyway, those are my ideas.
  5. Hi All! I've converted yet another scenario from the SkirmishCampaign book Russia '41-Into the Ukraine. This is my third scenario design and I've really started to finesse my scenario creation skills. Red Heroes is a continuation of Opening Volley in which the German 11th Panzer Division continues its press on to Dubno. It takes place on 23 June 1941. In this scenario the Ukranians are getting a bit better at intercepting the Germans and are racing to set up an ambush. It features an Ad Hoc defense vs. an Attacker who wants to be elsewhere. I spent nearly a month tweeking this one after successive plays vs. the computer and against human opponents. Its my best scenario so far. It has lots of tactical phases. The first is the initial line of battle formation the Germans come onto the battle with. Eventually that breaks up into bound and overwatch as German's overcome a stream obstacle. The meat of the fight comes 2/3rds of the way through as the German has to make some tough tactical choices. He wants to hold the town with his forces. He also wants to exit his AFV's off the board because they are needed further down the road. The question is, how long do they stay? The Ukranian player has a completely different set of problems. Mainly there is the quality issue. His troops and vehicles are up to a frontal assault on the Germans. They are brave but when it comes to being able to take out the enemy they just can't survive a long range slug match. The Ukranian player has to be clever and that means timing his attacks and setting up so that the range is quite close. The Ukranian cares less about losing his own troops than the German does. Just taking out a percentage of the German armor goes a long way in securing a victory in this scenario. You can find Opening Volley and Red Heroes at The Scenario Depot: http://www.dragonlair.net/combatmission/ Enjoy!
  6. Oh! Well isn't that interesting. Thats probably why they later invented wire laying vehicles. Thanks, that clears up a lot. I imagine that applies to some HQs too that use wire?
  7. OK, whats up. Why can't I get a 2 man spotter team to embark a vehicle????? This has come up as a pain in the butt too many times. Why do they always have to be walking?
  8. Hey just want to say how excited I am for this new game. I am a long time fan of DiF, having been introduced to the system when 8th Air Force came out. I have all of the games and a couple of extra decks to fill things out. I also have converted numerous people over to it over the years. Just recently I flew home to see family and friends and my best friend and I spent a lovely sunny day out on the deck playing a Corsairs and Hellcats Campaign. I am actually one degree seperated from Dan. Dan knows this guy Chris Richardson, and Chris, while living in California now, is a die hard New Englander like me! Chris is the ultimate gamer and the nicest guy around. Anyway, I don't even have to see this game, I already know I am going to get it. It may suck but I doubt that, the card game is easily my favorite. I hope Dan considers doing the "Flagship" game this way as well if success comes via DiF - that game had great potential and was fun as is. --Pete
