  1. Seems not everyone has a taste for academic precision. I was following Jason's points and the funny thing is nothing he wrote can be disagreed with. Can't fault the logic? Fault the logician, I guess. Can you guys get back to talking about Italians now?
  2. I'd bite, but when I saw the US$23.00 shipping charge to Canada it just wasn't worth it. Sorry! ;-(
  3. I'd imagine that there are a number of "more casual" gamers out there that want everything to do with the Battle of the Bulge but nothing to do with Normandy. Trying to sell these people on Normandy and then another "upgrade" sale to get Bulge just would not fly. Makes far more sense to let the people that just want the Bulge to just have the Bulge.
  4. Another suggestion to the OP is to slow down the pace of your battles. After all, 10 minutes to your pTruppen is really only enough time to sit down, catch their breath and have a smoke, maybe two. 10 turns is an eternity to us players, but in real life any officer who refuses to wait 10 minutes for the artillery to dial in before attacking a known enemy position would be considered wildly reckless and would likely have never reached a command position in the first place.
  5. 1. View the movie 2. Save 3. Patch 4. Re-open 5. Continue playing
  6. I agree that most people looking at this game would date it as at least five years old from a graphics standpoint, with certain aspects of it more like 10 years old (no damage decals on vehicles, for example). Where I disagree is the statement that BF should be spending more time on graphics, in the sense that current Battlefront staff should not be. Charles and Steve have shown themselves to be masters of game design and the modelling of tactical combat. Charles has shown himself to be a somewhat below average 3D engine programmer. With current game industry standard animation practices better than what Battlefront is able to produce it should be a fairly simple step conceptually to bring in a new programmer to focus on the 3D engine and animations only so as to take CMx3 based games to the next level. Charles just needs to let go of that part of the code base. Tough to do from personal experience but likely necessary if any further gains are to be made from a graphics perspective. All that is unlikely to fit BF's cost/benefit equation though, so we will just continue to love the baby we've got!
  7. The OOBs of the games are complete in relation to the time period and region depicted. Find a web site that details who and what participated in Normandy and you will know what units are present in CMBN. Likewise for the American, German and Italian units in Scicily.
  8. Sure, I'm up for a PBEM of CMFI. I'd say I'm medium in competency. Let's move to private messages for the details.
  9. Unfortunately a potential problem with this idea is that it would also open the door for third parties to create commercial software that uses this feature. Not sure that BFC would like that.
  10. EDIT: Others have gone down this path in previous posts... But anyway. This is actually much easier to accomplish than you state here, Steve. Here is what is required: 1. An unencrypted (text? XML?) battle file format that can be loaded (more slowly than your current binary format) as the current .btt file is. 2. The ability to save a game in the same unencrypted format, only after the battle is over so as to keep people from cheating while a battle is on-going. Someone cheating at the operational level by reading an end battle save file is not Battlefront's problem. As stated previously, with these two features the community could create the operational layer and Battlefront would only be on the hook for supporting this particular text file format. Easy as pie, right? :-)
  11. I would think that you can multiplay a side in any game that allows mid-turn saves to be taken before the "End Turn" button is pressed. You just need to play with people you trust, since the last person with the save could re-write all the rules for all the other players to royally screw a game.
  12. I'm back in the CM fold with my recent purchase of CMBN and CMFI! I'd definitely be looking to participate in any future RoW tourney. Some of the funnest most rewarding gaming of my life! Cheers!
  13. You need to right click on your Public\CMBN folder and select "Copy Public Link" Then paste that copied link into this forum. The link you posted does not work.
  14. In a dos window, python cmc.py should do the trick. Still downloading the source so I don't actually know if cmc.py actually exists or not. I'm know python quite well, so I'll post if I find out.
  15. You really think so? If so, then there isn't much immediate worth in this release. However, I disagree with that opinion, since Charles and Co. have had this part of the project working for years now. I'm sure that any bugs in this part of the CMC system would have been found and corrected quite early in the process. Time will tell.
  16. I think the most immediately valuable and useable piece of all this is the import/export feature added to CMBB. I can easily see the existing, long running campaigns out there taking this and writing quick and dirty interfaces to create battles and track OOB changes. CMC as it was originally envisioned by Hunter may well and truly be too much for anyone to see to fruition, but that doesn't mean that there isn't immense value in the components that made up that vision that are probably already working well and just waiting for someone to pick up and assemble into something new.
  17. Of course. I understand the difficult decisions he's found himself having to make. He at least knows that there are people out there who "get it" and have no problem helping to keep the great karmic balance sheet in good order! :-)
  18. This would be the first item on the agenda for this project. Create a document (if it doesn't already exist, I haven't had time yet to check!) about how to use the new import/export feature of the CMBB.EXE file and what format is required for the data. Any of the current campaigns out there (Onion Wars, anyone?) will then be able to almost immediately be able to start putting together a system that will hugely unburdon the campaign GMs. That alone is a potential saving of hundreds of hours! Moon... If the community manages to make this work, what are the chances of a new CMAK.exe file being published that will also include the import/export features? Please don't say zero....
  19. We would need to know Hunter's sourceforge account name. Right now I see that only you, Moon, are associated with the project. If Hunter were to create a sourceforge account and join the project then we could use it to donate some money to him.
  20. If nothing else, the release of the new CMBB.EXE file with the import/export features available will spawn tens or possibly hundreds of new campaign generators and managers! Having this project released as open source is the best thing that could have happened to it. Unfortunately it leaves Hunter with no way to earn back the money he has put into it, but it sounds like he'd reached that point already whether it had been made available to the community or not. A painful decision to make, but ultimately the best one for the community and the code base. Hopefully Hunter will be able to find some satisfaction in seeing new people with new enthusiasm taking up the project. Some of that enthusiasm may even rub off on him again! Time will tell. Thanks, Hunter. Perhaps you should open a paypal "Please contribute if you find this useful" account. I know I've got a few bucks to spare.
  21. Well, on the bright side it has been open sourced and as such has been released source forge, meaning you can go download it right now if you want. Including a new CMBB.EXE file that will interface with it! My feeling is that a thousand eyes looking at the source code will be the best thing that ever happened to CMC. This won't compensate Hunter and all the money and time he put into the project, but hopefully he'll find some satisfaction when he sees his project finished and realising the potential that he saw when he set out on it.
  22. Just like Vista is a version of Windows, Ubuntu is a version of Linux. There's more to it than that, but that's probably all you need to know from a general point of view.
  23. Thanks Moon. Time to go away and come back in a year or so. I'm still eager, but I can also be patient.
  24. I don't think BFC has any staff on this project at all. It's all Hunter's mess to work through.
