  1. I just downloaded/installed cmeto and then cm Normandy. The whole thing looks amazing...except for buildings! I'm stuck with north african buildings. I can't seem to find the right mods to correct that. Could anyone point me to the mods I need please?
  2. The scenario depot was just as important as CMMODS is. The guys at the proving grounds and boots & tracks are great, but the depot really helped to keep the game fresh with all those scenarios. It's a major blow.
  3. I bought and read both. It's the standard Osprey thing: thin book (90-100pp) with color plates inserts. They did clarify all sorts of things for me as they deal with the german, american and british units. There is nothing about russian units. I enjoyed them both very much.
  4. Are you sure it's fixed? I doesn't work for me at all.
  5. I read it. It's very short, but very good. Here's the comment I left on Amazon 2 years ago: Once you start reading this book, it's pretty hard to actualy stop. Kopp manages to make each sentence important and worthwhile, which makes for a book that is both "short" and intense. At long last a book in which the commonwealth is not regarded as 2nd rate player behind the US forces. An amazing story of courage with the right ammount of technical details and historical accuracy for it to be used in serious research.
  6. The mines were hidden, but it doesn't make any difference: the tank wasn't anywhere near enough to set them off
  7. The tank was buttoned and in reverse. Thus, I would understand backing in the minefield simply by not seeing it, but it never got even close to those mines. Anyway, sh*t happens.it gave my PBEM opponenent a good laugh and I guess that's what matters...somehow. Thanks for the quick answer.
  8. One of my tanks was blown up while moving within 10-20 meters of one of my own minefield. Needless to say, that got me mad as hell. Do mines have a greater "radius" than what is shown on the screen? Unless I misread something, the manual doesn't say anything about that. What's up with that?
  9. If anyone still cares: Glantz adresses the truck issue in his latest book, pp.353-356. According to him, lend-lease and/or russian trucks are not that important between 1941 and 1943, at least on the operational level. They are useful on the tactical level, though. After 1943, trucks will play a more important role.
  10. Here's my advice for what it's worth: when you have a lot of units, try to create seperate groups for your advance. Often in large scenarios, your troops are forming a long line across the map or something similar. I tend to reassemble them in distinct fighting force according to A) objectives and terrain/line of advance. I end up playing a *game* with each one of my groups, as they were seperate battles. Depending of the opposition you face, move in your reserve to support the group that needs it. It easy to feel overwhelm by large scenario, and as cliché as it sounds, practice does make better. Anyways, that's how I do it. I hope that helps.
  11. thanks for the video, really neat! spoiler follows ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; Funny, I pushed really deeply on the left flank, reaching the woods that overlook the ravin-like depression. In the center, my recon troops got wiped out. As for the right flank, the video shows really well where the recon troops should stop. I foolishy decided to duke it out on that flank and I managed to push to the mosque. Unfortunately, I got caught in the open on the left at the start of turn 2. I really need more practice with recce. Thanks.
  12. I'm already scared - I got my face smashed in. if Krasni Mak is worse, I won't make it very far. At least, reinforcements arrived and the weather cleared up. Wish me luck, i'm gonna need it.
  13. warning: possible spoiler ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' '' ' ' '' ' ' ' ' ' ' Just out of curiosity, how many turns did you need to reach the first buildings? It took me over 15 turns to get a 1/2 recon squad to the closest building and I was wondering how that compared to others playing OSF - I am really having some trouble moving forward. How do you guys find the overall difficulty level of the campaign?
  14. Thanks a bunch, No_One. Since I last posted, I made some progress and realized that, yes, the woods were probably the best line of advance (although the hamlet was much more heavily defended then expected). I can see how fog would make it much harder for the Germans. However, the Russian having no mortars whatsoever, all those trenches and MG-42s are really a pain in the neck. Once again, thank you for the tip!
  15. Thanks for the tip. The only thing is that the setup puts the russian forces in full view of the german StuGs so it makes everything harder. On top of that, the map is so back that infantry takes forever to be deployed forward. So far, I had very little luck advancing my force behind smoke. I shall try again then.
  16. I posted in the wrong forum by mistake, silly me.
  17. Hey guys! Long time lurker, first time poster - I'm out of the closet now and I call upon your combined wisdom. I have been playing CM since it first came out, and I am slowly making progress (I can't play as often as I wish I could..)although I still suck with tanks (which is pretty sad). Would anyone here be nice enough to give me some help with the operation "the road to Minsk". It's a tank heavy operation and playing the Red Army puts you in command of 4 IS-2, almost a dozen T-34 and almost as many SU-76 and a bunch of others AFVs. The Germans appear to have a few StuG's and Nashorns but they mostly rely on AT guns (a whole bunch). The terrain really funnels the russians towards the middle of the map, facing the AT guns while the self-propelled guns are waiting in ambush behind. My problem is this: no matter what I do, my advancing armoured force is apparantly no match for their guns. Even if supported by loads of artillery, I can't suppress the AT guns, and those damn StuG are just picking my tanks one by one (even if they are ALL shooting back - all I get are missed or deflected shots). I've tried using smoke to move in close, I tried flanking on two sides to divide their firepower but nothing seems to really work and I end up losing most of my tanks before reaching any worthwhile objective. As anyone played this operation with some success and/or could you give a sense of your loses and tactics? Thank you very much. ps: Sorry for the long post. pps: I am also sorry for spelling errors, english is not my native language.
