  1. Ok some test data from a while ago. A Maxim MG 10m in woods spots a regular sniper moving in open ground at 350. For a sniper on crack it is at 235m For a crack sniper moving in steppe it is around 150m. This was on a clear and sunny day. No terrain elevation. The Maxim faced the sniper directly. Lessons: experience is important and steppe conceals quite well.
  2. Experience is very important, Zalgiris. Try veteren sneakers with a +2 stealth commander and you will see a big difference.
  3. I think it can be a huge advantage to know when you are spotted in which circumstances and when you can spot other units. I found out for example that a firing unit can be spotted by a binocular equiped unit within 200m, which is very good to know if you are attacker. Especially, if you want to deal with those MGs. Sometimes I try to sneak a sniper in the vicinity of suspected MG positions to get a full ID on them. And as Walpurgis stated, high experienced snipers are very good at remaining unseen, even within 100m of enemy troops should not be too difficult. As a defender it is useful to know how to let your troops change from full ID to generic markers, which is very frustrating for an attacker. I think in the future I will experiment a bit more with that, trying to use sneak and hide to avoid overwatch fire. Does anyone here uses that in their defence? Any tips for doing that? @Walpurgis About what kind of terrain are you talking in your first example about magnetic mines?
  4. Do you have LOS with your guns to the third line of VL's (about 3)? If not this might be a problem. You could also rush some tanks in, since it seems that the building also act as an LOS block to possible russian tanks.
  5. Cool idea this AAR. If you have any 80mm front armour tanks use them right away. T34 cannot penetrate them accept from the side, so keep them keyholed abit. Which move command do u use? I would use "move to contact" with a covered arc, so they halt when fired upon, but still continu if they see an opponent outside their arc.
  6. Well, if they can kill French they might be interested, but I am afraid you are right.
  7. What about France 1940? Plenty of action and tank battles. British expeditionary forces and French army against the germans. I still find it strange that the germans beat the french in just 3 months while both armies had comparable sizes. In fact, France had more and better armour than the germans. Would love to drink a nice bottle of wine before going into action.
  8. ok this is my list What to add: 1: easier terrain view. It should be possible that when you click on a unit, that terrain is highlighted which the unit can see. Have seen this feature in some strategy game, but dont remember which. 2: units have real dimensions, which means you can shoot the front of a tank while the back is hiding behind a house. 3: complete unit information in the purchase screen. So you can check all armour statistics and firepower, before you go into combat. 4: more soul in the game, a campaign like in close combat 2. 5: option to give platoons formations, like wedge or recon formation. to keep: 1: scale of the game 2: micromanagement should not increase 3: detailed armour hits 4: good fun/realism balance 5: ability to use cheat codes
  9. He Yskonyn, Judging by your name, you are in my time zone. Care for a game? Send a mail to yvanderdrift@gmail.com
  10. I perfectly agree with you, Walpurgis. Sometimes I accept games from which I know that there is a high chance of losing them. For example: attacking as germans in 44 with combined arms settings, where you only receive about 200p for tanks in a 1000 QB. In that way u learn to make proper use of inf guns, instead getting lazy with those high ammo T34's. And when you learn to use those inf guns, it is sooo easy to go back and using T34's again. It is amazing. There are many set ups like this, which put you in a position of disadvantage, but which are very educational. By the way, if you are in for a game please be free to play as an underdog. email: yvanderdrift@gmail.com
  11. Recently i have had good results with 45mm AT guns against PzIV and StuGs. Since they are so cheap you can choose to put them in front of your infantry and then let the tanks pass by so you can penetrate them from the sides. Ideal are places that the opponent doesn't need for his infantry for cover, like small patches of trees surrounded by open ground. Ofcourse some will be overrun by infantry, but there is a big chance that your opponent missed some and thinks he is safe.
  12. You could also buy some KV-1 with 100mm turret armour. They can withstand 75mm rounds from about 1000m and they should have no problems penetrating those 50mm turrets of the PzIV. The T34 you should use at short range, less than 300m so you negate the longe range capabilities of the pz4.
  13. Hi grumlin, I am going this weekend to Prague with some friends, but am afraid that they dont share my fascination for ww2. Anyhow if I find something i will report it to you!
  14. Maybe one should demonstrate the use of guns to you, Paulo, because clearly you do not understand how effective they can be. Try to attack as axis combined arms without using them. It is impossible, because you get limited armour points. The infantry guns give alot of bangs for the bucks (or euros ) and it is a pity to not use them. And like Jason said, if you can make good use of guns, it is so easy to use tanks or self propelled guns. Just try it.
