When FI is complete they would have most of the units that would be needed for NA.  Considering the popularity of CMSF I and II you'd think that people would love to get back to the desert in WW2.

Dear GOD.... I hope so... Operation Compass, BattleAxe, Crusader, Gazala Battles... hell could you win a campaign as the Italians vs the UK?    So many great battles.  Sidi Barrani,  Bardia,  Tobruk, Bedda Fomm.  1st and Second German campaigns.  You could do some UK LRRP scenarios.  Naval support, Air Support...   To me it was a damn good Combat Series.

Interesting.. I just ordered this book.  Will read it and whip out a Scenario after I finish reading the book.  Never done any Campaigns but I can at least do a really good scenario.  Want to get all the accurate details and such.  Will post again when finished.  LOL probably in a month or two.

Yeah, Market Garden is a very solid module. I believe it was the first that introduced stock master maps. I think it is important to point out that MG set a standard that is followed and exceeded by subsequent releases. The maps for scenario's and campaigns in Black Sea are very well done, and I personally think that Final Blitzkrieg has the best detailed, historically accurate maps of any CM title. Based on this, it would appear that quality is increasing, not decreasing. Even if R2V ships with 2 campaigns and 8 scenario's (which may not be the case) I'm very confident that those campaigns and scenario's will follow the high standard and be exceptional.
Plus, don't forget about the possibility of battle packs. I hope we see more battle packs for all of the games. Its a great way to add more playable content and maps to a game, even a finished one like CMBN and soon CMFI. Who knows, if there is a campaign you really want to see in CMFI, maybe the next battle pack will be made by yourself.
I think it was mentioned that at least one of the campaigns would be following elements of the US 10th Mountain division in 1945, and I also remember mention of the tank offensives through the Po Valley may get a campaign as well. Not sure if that is still the case though.

IIRC it was announced a while ago that the plan is to add a module to CMFB that adds CW forces and brings the game to the end of the war in the ETO.

It is true that BF is a small company, but for them to keep the Combat Mission series alive for as long as they have, almost 20 years now, is something I can't say for other gaming companies that have come and gone. I applaud every single person (code writers, graphic artists, researchers, beta-testers) that work on all the CM titles, whether it is a whole new game or an expansion to an existing one. Being a former member of a development/beta-testing team for a different gaming company I can honestly say that how BF is handling the Combat Mission series is fine by me. They can't please all the people all the time. It would be literally impossible for them to work on new games/expansions to please us all in a timely manner. Yes, it has taken them years in some instances to release a new game/expansion but I am one of those that is patient enough to wait for them. In another post, I mentioned that I felt it was a good idea on BF's behalf to get rid of all the other game titles and let them be sold on Steam. They were stretching themselves far too thin. Concentrating on Combat Mission is a very good plan, IMHO.

I too miss those early things...and yes...one of the benefits of jumping back to 41 would be...
    it would feel 'fresh' 😎...
by that i mean it would be a greater change of equipment and perhaps even tactics compared to going to late 43 for example...
44 and 43 have far more simulareties compared to what 44( 43 ) and 41 has...
It would provide more of varid gameplay compared to simply move backwards a few month...
that would be a good thing imo 😎

I was just thinking...after the soon to be released CMRT module...
Would it make sence for BFC to skip straight to 1941 and operation Barbarosssa ?
I know the current plan is to take advantage of the already finnished games and modules to use the equipment and OOBs and such from those games to speed up the development of the next few eastern front games...gooing in reverse order from1944 to 1943 to 1942 etc...
I can't help it but this feels a bit 'wrong'  😉...i would much rather play through the war in the right order. 41 to 42 to 43 etc...
Take Stalingrad for example...First we get to play the Russian counterattack and associated battles in the Winter of 43...then after we have done that for a year or to...
only then do we get to play the beginning part of the Stalingrad battle...including the full Case Blue in one of the 1942 games...
It would be better to start with Case Blue and then follow that up with 1943 imo...
    The question is...
Should BFC take the plunge now...and spend the time developing entirely new units and formations to allow for a 1941 Barnarossa game and the progress through the years in the right direction ?
    imo YES ! 😁
Besides being allowed to play the war in the direction as far as the years go...I can see additional benefits with such a change in strategy...
If they do develop the 1941 units and formations for Barbarossa they will have...
A decent foundation to begin working on  CM2 CMAK and probably also the early war Western front...
Many units needed for those games will already have been developed for Barbarossa 👍
Switching the direction like this will give BFC a good opertunity to begine working on these two entirely new game famelies...
north africa and early western front.
    Perfect, i say ! 😁
If they stick with the current reversed direction with the years...they pretty much have nothing left to do as far as WW2 basegames go...
besides completing the eastern front...in the reverse order 🙃
The other option is better imho...😎

The direct answer is as @Xorg_Xalargsky said.
If you are programming this behaviour with the AI you can do it with triggers - they will not with draw until the enemy reaches the trigger point. A human player would not face such restrictions.
There are a couple of other things you could do:
Forget the exit requirement and just make the time tight for the attacker. If the defender can delay the attacker from getting the town they win. Make it so the points mean that if the defender just abandon their positions they get a loss of some level. Allocate the points so that they can only win if they cause enough casualties or prevent them from getting the town.

A new scenario I designed for the Brits.  Hypothetical British Attack from elements of 50th Inf Division backed by elements of the 44th RTR from 4th Bde.  vs Both Italian and German units.  Hypothetical but hopefully challenging enough for everyone.  AI has 2 plans but one more than the other.  Played as Allied vs AI, or I think H2H would be fine as well.  Looking for some play testers to tell me if any changes need to be done.
For some reason I am still having difficulties loading onto the Scenario Depot... so if anyone savvy enough to do that for me that would be great.   Have fun and keep your head down.

I have attached the .btt file that you can just drop into your Scenario folder.

As for orders maps, in the editor if you go to Mission (Axis) for example you will see four tabs marked 'Strategic' 'Operational' 'Tactical' and 'Text'. The map tabs give you the preferred art size in pixels: 224 x 224, 702 x 224, and 952 x 350. The preferred art format is .bmp.
This is your own scenario so you can put anything you want into those orders map locations. Screenshots of the 2-D map, hand-scribbled art, art from ASL, Calvin and Hobbes cartoon panels. Put as much or as little work into it as you want.
Since you're not selling your scenario for profit I think you're probably safe from ASL's wrath
